Quest link not working with Quest 3

I just updated my Nvidia driver to the most recent version (537.58), and now Quest link just isn't working at all. Tried uplugging and replugging the link cable, nope. Tried restarting the headset, nope. Anyone else having this problem?

Hey everyone! The engineering and product team has reached back out to me and provided an update.

It looks like they won't be able to get the necessary information through here on the forums, but they did want to look into everyone's logs to get a closer look. I highly suggest testing out PTC and if that doesn't work, reaching out through a support ticket so they can gather the logs and provide some more in-depth assistance.

That is interesting. I’ve never had that pop up before. Have you tried the oculus public test channel in the oculus app on pc? Make sure the headset is up to datw? I’ve read GeForce experience can cause issues but I don’t have they downloaded. Unfortunately, the issue I had was the only issue I’ve ever had, besides when meta made updates that made link unusable for everyone. (That was quest 2 though)

Yeah, absolutely everything was up to date, and I rebooted both headset and PC a couple of times too.

But suddenly it now works!  I don't know what or why.  I vaguely recall having this happen with the Quest 2 also.  It wouldn't connect the first 3-4 times of trying.  Then by the end of the week, it did!  I wish I could explain what I did, but I've no idea!

Hey guys! If you're having issues with the Quest 3 connecting to your PC, I'd recommend testing out therealcberns solution. If that doesn't seem to help out, I'd also suggest reaching out to the support team since they'll be able to look into your logs and help out.

I'm having the same issue also. Quest 3 works fine with Airlink, but not with official Quest link cable on the latest Nvidia driver. If it helps, on the previous version of the Nvidia driver, my Pimax Crystal audio would not work at all. After some searching I found that if you disable the Nvidia audio driver that it would make the audio work again. The 537.58 Nvidia driver update fixed that audio issue with the Pimax Crystal for me. If I was to guess I would say that whatever change they did affected the USB for us Quest link users.

Seriously, it should not be this hard to use the Link cable.  Any kind of suggestions to update bios or video card drivers is a smokescreen for faulty software or bad implemtation.

I can connect using USB 2.0 just fine.  But this won't do.  I'm trying to use USB-C, as I did with the Quest 2.

My Quest 2 worked fine.  My Quest 3 DOES NOT!

I really don't understand why this is so difficult.

(And please, again, no stupid fix suggestions.  Have you tried a different cable?  Did you reboot, etc.)

Could not agree more. It is very frustrating because I can't test any Unity3d apps that I'm developing and I can't even copy anything to the Quest 3 because it doesn't show up in windows explorer.

It worked! Thanks for all your help folks. I upgraded the BIOS on my motherboard (the ASUS Prime Z790 P WIFI) to version 1402 and now I can connect the Quest 3 with a USB-3 to USB-C cable like you suggested. The Oculus store app still complains that "USB 3 connection recommended", but I can still deploy my Unity projects just fine.

Upgraded the BIOS seems extreme, and very few times has doing that solved any problems I might have.

Using another chord and plugging the Quest 3 into USB 3.0, I also got that message.  When I tried a newer cord, specifically designed, apparently, for the Quest (1, 2, and 3), the message went away.

If you're still getting the recommendation from Oculus to use 3.0, then it's likely you need a better link cord.

I agree, but the BIOS upgrade did the trick for me.  Just for the sake of completeness, I did go back to the official Oculus Link cable (USB-C to USB-C) and all is working fine now.

Hi my setup is

i7 13700k, RTX4090, Windows 11 (latest), Oculus app (latest)(tried both stable and beta), Oculus Quest 3 VR set, Asus Wifi6 router

I am not able to connect via QuestLink to PC using both cable connection or Wifi.

When i add googles to Oculus app i got information that microphone is not working and i got red icon next to connected device.

When i try opening quest link i got 3 dots and opening of the app is ending in couple of seconds with no success.

alternatively running games via Virtual Desktop is not working properly. when i open MSFS when in virtual desktop when i try to switch to VR mode i got message that no VR device is available.

PS. OpenXR is an active runtime

on the same setup using Oculus Quest 2 device works perfectly.

how to properly connect Q3 to Oculus app not to get any red icons ? How to open Questlink ? How to open OpenXR apps when in Virtual Desktop ?

I am open for all sugestions

Oculus app not recognizing the microphones of Q3 seems to be a common problem.

My micro worked fine until I connect my Q3 to my PC with USB. Since then I have the microphone not found error.

So i have the same problem and Meta support just wrote me that pc link with steam is not support 100%. Which isn't even my problem. I can't even get the occulus software to detect my Headset anymore. I have updated my BIOS and done everything else that has been written in this Thread. Does anyone have another suggestions?

The only thing that I can add is that my Link Cable is now working from the USB-C port on a DOCKCASE Visual Smart USB C Hub (8-in-1) specifically this one on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B7WW9KD5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

...and this is plugged into the thunderbolt port on my motherboard: ASUS Prime Z790-P WIFI.  If I was to guess, maybe the BIOS upgrade improved thunderbolt connectivity somehow.  Also, make sure you pay attention when you reboot the Quest 3 because there is a quick message that asks if you want to approve the connected cable. I almost missed it myself.

I also found that using a powered hub allowed the link to be recognized.....at first....now it doesn't work, but perhaps I'm also missing the message in the headset. Thanks for the tip.

I'm disappointed that the experience when using Link/Air Link with Quest 3 is currently worse than Quest 2.

Quest 3 Link is unable to run 120hz, and doesn't run at the full headset resolution.

If the software were up to date, AV1 could also be leveraged over USB to give better clarity.

When will the software be updated?

I second this, the PC software needs 120hz AND proper resolution options, as it stands now you can't even get the resolution right per eye, EVEN at the highest setting. Id love AV1 and AV1-10bit as well,  but heck id settle with just the forementioned! Give use an option to type in per eye resolution OR give better options period!

Im doing VD right now at 200bit rate using AV1, with the godlike setting (3072x3216) <<< which is what id really love to set in your pc software but can't!!! I like airlink better, sense it runs ALL games, but guys its time to add some well need settings for crying out loud!

Just wanna chime in to say I also can't connect via Link Cable. Airlink stutters to the point where I can't even exit once I'm in & have to reboot. Virtual Desktop works fine (aside from a network latency issue every 5 minutes). But when I connect the Link cable I hear a connection sound but nothing happens & my PC doesn't appear on the list to connect. And no I'm not wasting time troubleshooting this nonsense. They should've had this working before selling the Quest 3.

Because your headset is being detected, is there any chance you're clicking YES to the message asking about accessing files and folders?  If so, click NO instead.  It was the same with the Quest 2: clicking YES would allow Windows to transfer files, but Link would absolutely not work with it.  Had to restart the headset and click NO to get Link working again.

Never got a message. Nothing happens when I connect other than a sound.

Let's be honest.  Unless you're woefully behind in your video driver, updating the driver will more than likely do nothing.  It's just a way for support to suggest something, no matter the thought is that it might solve a problem.

And also, start with the basics.  Any kind of updating of the BIOS or using some kind of hub is not something that is likely to fix a thing.

The first thing you'd want to do, in my estimation, is to get a new Link cable.  The cable that I used, coming from the Quest 2, is not sufficient.  Buy a new one and then try.  If that fails and you absolutely know for certain you've got the correct cable, then you can move to other simple solutions.

Once I got a Link cable specifically designed for the Quest 3, my problems disappeared.
