[Resolved] - Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery only connects for a few seconds

Is anyone working on the Quest 3 elite battery issue?  It charges but won’t connect to the headset for more than a few seconds, meaning you cannot charge through the back port.

We’ve seen some people having trouble with their Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery not being recognized by the headset or not charging. We’re happy to help look into this with anyone having trouble, and we recommend contacting our support team here so we can take a closer look.

Meta sent me a new one and I received today. Tested for about an hour and so far working , showing in battery as extended battery and if I plug it I to my mobile it charges like a normal battery bank. ( My last one would disconnect and not charge my mobile )

I'll wait and see what happens. Hopefully it will last longer than 6 days like my previous elite strap.

Hi, update v59 didn't address this issue? Who can test? I wish to buy an elite strap too.

I'm glad to hear somebody got the update.  I know it's rolling out "over time" it's just I've been checking and not seeing for awhile now.

Hopefully any software battery issue will be addressed in a later update.  It will not fix any actual hardware battery issues or course.  Even if they do "fix" anything related to the battery they may never acknowledge it in any list of updates.  Every tech company does that with 'negative' things.

Also my failed elite strap serial number was: 2V5SQ0BF[redacted]

I have a Samsung Quick Charge (25W) 10000mah battery, very easy and fits into my pocket. Sometimes when I put the Quest 3 on the couch for a minute and I return, it "forgets to continue charging". I must disconnect and reconnect the cable, so I believe it's a software issue. My biggest problem is that the Quest 3 is **bleep** heavy and isbdeforming my face after an hour! So I would be happy with the non battery strap too if I would knew it releases the face pain.

Mine is the same, shows up a second then gone. How are you all contacting support? Been trying for two days but I only get "This page isn't available at the moment" on their support page.

I just went though the live chat option because of the limited options to claim a ticket. After going through general troubleshooting the consultant said I would expect an email, and just got that asking if I want a replacement or refund

Oh I've not even seen a live chat option...

Live is a bit of a stretch! I’ve seen more life in a morgue than Meta customer service. When you message them via WhatsApp you have to wait days for a reply! In my case I wasted three days and then they sent me a message in the night when I was sleeping so naturally didn’t reply! Then I woke up and saw a message saying as you haven’t replied I will close the support request! I was asleep for 7 hours ffs! Not 7 days… Then I had to start the whole process again! It’s painful and left me with no confidence in Meta whatsoever. They eventually sent me a new Elite Strap but failed to put my full address on the shipping details only my name, town and postcode. I received a call from the courier saying we’ve been unable to deliver your parcel as we don’t have your address as the sender failed to provide it! It’s like amateur hour every hour with these guys. It’s going to be the last Meta product I ever buy I know that.

I have been a big fan of VR for many years...... Q1 on launch, Q2 on launch, now Q3 on launch.

Anyways, that aside... the Q3 and the Elite head strap have issues.....  we all know that.

My new issue to the list is it wont charge past 68-69%.

i am lucky that when connecting the Elite strap to my Q3, i actually see a notification advising extended battery life, and if i hover over the battery icon, i see the remaining percentages.

i have tried resetting via the little white button on the back, i have tried the supplied q3 charger, my phone charger, a battery pack.......anything that produces a charge has been tested......... Elite battery strap remains at 68-69%.

Any ideas.... or do i just request a replacement?

You need to plug the strap into the headset and not wear the headset while charging to go beyond 69%. The strap uses the sensor in the headset to detect that it's NOT being worn.

Yeah and this is probably a safety mechanism, I am sure,

Safety is a real thing when having batteries strapped to your face and head, given Lithium Ion if it malfunctions can ignite and/or explode.  One reason I never would recommend a third party battery from a random company based in China, despite many people opting to go this route.  If something goes horribly wrong, good luck on the liability front.

Got fast response from support via mail.
They are aware of this issue and feedback from tech department is, its a SOFTWARE bug.
So there will be an update, but he could not say when πŸ˜’

IMO was pretty clear it was a software/firmware bug all along, seems a flakey USB detection routine, or the headset is "ejecting" the elite strap when it runs out of battery hence preventing a reconnect without plug/replug.

However, there probably *are* a very small percentage of genuinely defective batteries out there, which need to be replaced, so hopefully Meta will release the update soon to rectify this so people know where they stand.
