[Resolved] - Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery only connects for a few seconds

Is anyone working on the Quest 3 elite battery issue?  It charges but won’t connect to the headset for more than a few seconds, meaning you cannot charge through the back port.

We’ve seen some people having trouble with their Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery not being recognized by the headset or not charging. We’re happy to help look into this with anyone having trouble, and we recommend contacting our support team here so we can take a closer look.

The only solution is to return it and buy a 3rd party one

I spoke with chat support, they had no idea about the issue, usual responses of charge it longer, are LED's showing etc. Ended with him saying we need to move to email instead so he can "call upon our specialized team to assist further".

They said that to me, and just asked for more details then said a new one was on its way.

It arrived today and appears to be working fine.

I got this useless email:

  1. Try to Unplug and replug the Elite Strap from headset. Make sure the headset is powered ON.
  2. Press the button once on the Elite Strap and check LED color.
    • Green: Fully Charged
    • Orange: Charging
    • Blinking Orange: Low Charge
    • Blinking Alternating Colors: Error
    • No LED: This means a very low battery level
      • Charge the Elite Strap for at least an hour
  3. If Elite Strap is not powering the headset
    1. Try unplugging and replugging from headset
    2. Try unplugging and replugging from AC adapter

This was an interesting video on the bobo, the meta quest strap gets mentioned also. I seems the quest 3 is a power hungry beast.

Got my replacement from Amazon, seems to be working normally, fingers x’d!

This needs a proper answer from Meta. I did not pay a lot for those usb charging issues with a elite.

Mine just stopped showing on screen completely. When I plug it, I just have the green led always ON on the quest 3 like if it was plugged to the charger. Basically my elite strap battery just turned into a dumb powerbank, not communicating to the headset at all.
The problem is that the elite battery has to communicate to the headset to allow charging and since the issue started I just can't charge it anymore, it stays orange forever.

Same issue and support has been an absolute joke. They want me to ship mine to them and they’ll send me back a refurbished unit. Filed charge back to get my money back from this garbage.

So to update on my experience with my replacement elite strap with battery;

  • no issues with extended battery spontaneously disconnecting
  • strap charges headset as expected
  • strap battery can be drained to zero without issue, still charges normally afterward
  • strap battery can be charged with an external battery pack while headset is in use without issue, extended battery actually increases in charge even during gameplay
  • I have had one incidence of turning on the headset and extended battery not showing. Unplugged and plugging it back in resolved the issue and battery remained recognized
  • I have not had a software update at all during this period

So my guess would be a hardware issue with my original strap. New strap is still working normally.

Hang in there folks and ask support for replacement on this issue and be patient.  Most of all, treat the support agents with kindness. Describe the problem clearly and refer them to this thread if needed. Ask for a replacement as a solution and advise that others have had replacements for this issue that had resolved the issue.

good luck!

Agreed with oTalus - this issue is indeed frustrating but not the support's fault. They do not really get told what's happening and when it may get resolved yet. It sucks when we get different responses from different people but that's more of a company communication issue than support agent failure.

Interesting update for those of us who have been having trouble with the headstraps and the lack of transparency from Meta in regards to what the problem is.

I had a request from them for me to take pictures of the serial number and/or date codes from inside of the headstrap to be able to receive my 2nd replacement. These are located on the inside of the strap connector arms. I have provided the image they sent to me.
This makes me think they have batches of these they probably know are prone to being faulty. Has anyone else had a response like this from them?
If anyone is willing to post even just the date codes this might help us as a community figure out which are bad batches.

I am trying to figure out if I have an issue that will be resolved in an update or not.  About 95% of the time, my elite strap functions normally.  However, once every few hours of use or so it will be disconnected randomly and I will have to unplug and plug it back in to get it detected again. Haven't really been able to debug when it disconnects because it is so infrequent, it might be when the headset in standby mode, not sure.  But then it works normally again for another few hours.  I don't want to return it for a replacement and get one that has the more major issues like i've been reading in this thread, but I am also not sure if this is normal behavior or not.
