v74: Quest 3 not fully charging

My Quest 3 auto-updated to V74 Build 5070966.11190.510 (PTC) on the 31st and it won't charge past 73-74%. At that percentage, the orange charging light starts to flash. This one time I woke up to the quest turned on and in the factory reset menu by itself (the one you get from holding Power + Vol down), with it overheating.

In the settings, there are no updates but whenever I restart or shut down the quest, each time it says wait while the Quest is updating for maybe 2s, which is unusual.

Things I've already tried:

1. Soft/hard reboot.

2. Different cables/chargers.

3. Unpairing and repairing the controllers (as suggested by chat support)

4. Turning off the Quest and then charging it but the same issue persists

I can confirm that after the v74 Hot Fix version that was released a couple days ago I have not had any charging issues.

I can also confirm that the 10-15 second repeated stutter issue with PCVR connections has been fixed.

The fixed version that will show is Build 5070966.18330.510.  This is a standard release version, not a PTC.

Since recently I cannot get into the mobile app settings for my headset to opt in to PTC anyway so I will have to wait until the update is pushed to us in Canada thanks for the info.

Having same issue, on support right now but they want me to do all the things to remedy it, lucky my Quest 3 doesn't get out of warranty until April 29th.

Are they asking you to send it back to them?

What i found was that after the battery drains to 75% it charges ok but does go above that anymore. I wonder if they found some fault with the batteries above 75% charge that could be harmful?

I got this from Meta Support

Thank you so much for getting in touch with us regarding the charging issue that you and your wife have been experiencing.

We can confirm that we are aware of the issue that some of our users have been affected by following the v74 update and we can advise we are currently investigating it. As soon as we have more details we'd be happy to share them with you but at the moment we have no set estimate on a resolution.

Oh, that's gonna be a wait. Need another headset for simracing. 😀 πŸ˜†

I'm having the same issue; my Quest 3 won't charge past %78 and the light keeps blinking orange.

My headset is doing this too after the v74 update.

Another weird thing--look at the battery once you're all powered up. If you have an elite strap with battery on it, no longer does it show you the new "total" battery percentage like before v72. Now it says "charging" and it shows the headset at 75% and the Elite strap stuck at 85%.

On a whim I unplugged my elite strap with battery and just let the headset charge--still gets stuck at 75% for the headset.

Hopefully they fix this soon and stop messing up so badly on the updates. 😞

πŸ˜†  Mine charged upto 91% this morning. Quickly dropped to 87% in the 15 mins I was using the headset, (whilst plugged in to the mains?) Curious! Now back to 78%, at least it's holding steady now. 🫣

    Witchcraft!

I'm trying to charge mine w/o the Elite Strap/Battery plugged in.  So far stuck at 75% but we'll see what it does.

Mine stayed at 73% tonight without dropping using airlink for  5  hours or so while plugged straight into the wall which isn't a huge issue but I think 73% is still too low even if this is a battery saving feature as 85% - 90% would be a normal battery saving level if this was something to do with battery health which is why I beleive this is a bug. with the latest update.

They replied to my email and suggested trying a soft reset, a hard reset, and even a sideload update.

The problem is, none of those worked. In fact, when I tried sideloading, Meta’s software didn’t even recognize my Quest 3 as a compatible device.

Pretty frustrating situation , I really hope they release a global update that fixes this soon.
