Question

v74: Quest 3 not fully charging

My Quest 3 auto-updated to V74 Build 5070966.11190.510 (PTC) on the 31st and it won't charge past 73-74%. At that percentage, the orange charging light starts to flash. This one time I woke up to the quest turned on and in the factory reset menu by itself (the one you get from holding Power + Vol down), with it overheating.

In the settings, there are no updates but whenever I restart or shut down the quest, each time it says wait while the Quest is updating for maybe 2s, which is unusual.

Things I've already tried:

1. Soft/hard reboot.

2. Different cables/chargers.

3. Unpairing and repairing the controllers (as suggested by chat support)

4. Turning off the Quest and then charging it but the same issue persists

Yeah, my headset also randomly decides, sometimes to charge correctly to 99/100% and stay there, and sometimes to drop to below 10% and not charge at all.

It also sometimes works when in sleep mode, sometimes not. Sometimes when powered off completely, sometimes not.

I have no clue what the hell is going on inside that thing :')

"Most reliable" way of charging it has been to monitor how much it pulls, turn it off, and plug and unplug it until it decides "Ok, I will charge now, I'll pull more than a fraction of a watt" ...

Guessing it behaves the same when powered on or in sleep mode (since sometimes it charges correctly even when on), but since it randomly decides to let itself die when switching states ...

Unfortunatley my headset charge started dropping again tonight after a restart it went from 90% to 81% while turned off and plugged into the official charger, I had an orange light showing the headset was charging but the percentage just kept dropping, I've now started the headset back up and put it into sleep mode but the orange light is now flashing on and off  intermittently , sadly still an issue here.

Welp... Tonight my headset was having problems. Apps werent running, things were glitching out, even virtual desktop was being funny, so I figured... its about time i upgrade to v74 from v72, as the public, stable version has been out for a while, lol. I played myself. As soon as it updated, the battery started dropping rapidly just like before. Went down to 78%...i thought they fixed this?

I jumped back into the PTC to get v76 and see if maybe it'll help. Its on the charging dock, and the orange light is on. But it turns on and off at random...i'll be checking it in 15 minutes to see if its actually charging or if i've officially messed up my headset for good now, since I cant roll back to the working v72 anymore. Unless any of you know a way to roll further back than the current public channel?

Meta, you need to fix this problem if you want people to use your HMDs as "spatial computers," which I ironically use it for. The past weeks have made me use my Quest 3 less than usual just because I don't want the battery to go down to 0% or have issues charging it back up.

I’d also add to my original issue of v74 not charging past 72%…
while powered off completely and charging cable plugged in, the right eye flickers every 20-30 seconds and does this the e tire time usb charging is going on.

Can someone get Mark Zuckerberg’s contact and let him know about this Meta Quest 3 issue? This is getting embarrassing – it’s been over a month already. He’s gotta be kidding at this point.

I have the charge dock and run my apps off a desktop PC.  For those of you who have the extended battery strap, I have found that I can charge the extended battery to 100% if I do this:  I unplug the extended battery from the headset and directly plug the extended battery into a usb c charging port on my dell desktop computer.  I then charge the headset off the charging dock.  The headset will only reach 72-74% and I will get a solid orange light on the docking station, but the extended battery will reach 100% or close to that after about 3 hours charging.  The extended battery light will turn green, and the unit will not overheat.  Hope this helps some currently get more time from their headset and I agree that Meta is taking way too long to fix this obvious software issue!

Hey folks, just thought I'd drop this here:

    https://www.androidcentral.com/gaming/virtual-reality/its-time-for-the-meta-quest-to-focus-on-stability-not-capability

I found it interesting but shouldn't be a surprise for anyone posting here.

Okay so I'm pretty baffled by the fact that no one has brought up this issue publicly on social media platforms after months of this persistent issue. I saw just 1-3 comments on each post on @ metaquestsupport's Instagram and that were irrelevant. This definitely feels like suppression and censoring which would be a 🍰 on their own platform. Shouldn't we comment publicly with our ticket numbers to let potential consumers know? This should be a lawsuit by now. Not sure if I can participate as a petitioner from outside the states but shouldn't someone get the ball rolling before Zucc escapes to his new bunker? 🐍

I have been messaging their support team via email and I all get is " we are working on it" every day a new bot replies to my email.

Boz thw new COO or whatever is enterprise oriented. Consumers like us mean nothing to them. So I doubt there will be a fix.

I bought a bigscreen beyond two and will dump this trash as soon as I get it.
