Question

Cannot pair right controller on factory reset?!

So basically, I had some right controller issues today and I thought I’d try to re-pair my controller and it wasn’t working in the Meta app so I got my spare controllers. I have two right spare controllers and both of them wouldn’t connect either so I thought I’d factory reset my headset now none of my right controllers can’t even get identified and I try them one at a time with fresh batteries nothing what do I do cause now I can’t. I feel like I can’t do anything. This is currently my third headset in three years and I can’t really afford to buy another one now my headset isn’t recognised on the Meta app because I just factory reset and I can’t get past the controller pairing menu at the start of factory reset so now I don’t know what to do sorry sorry for the rant just so frustrated.

It could be that in this case, the controller isn't the problem, but software. What version are you on? Is it PTC or official?

Try this if you haven't already.

Connect your headset to your pc and run the Meta Software Update tool. It might just help.

    https://www.meta.com/help/quest/software_update/

Otherwise there might be a hardware problem with the headset rather than the controllers.

    Good luck. ☘️☘️🤞🤞

So I my right controller magically started working and paired for 1hr, then all of a sudden it un paired, now I can’t re pair it again, I’ve tried multiple controllers but no luck, current build is 2.4 btw, not sure if this helps. I can’t believe it, I really don’t want another refurb either 😭😭😭 sorry I appreciate your help

If you're still on the public test channel don't panic. It might be the software as we mentioned before.

Hi Maccym, I followed the steps, plugged in my headset, and at first it seemed like the update was working with the link you said, but after a couple of minutes for no reason my headset turned off mid update. I tried it twice with the same results. I made sure to have my headset on my head the second time to make sure it wasn't timing out. no luck sorry again, what do you think the next course of action is?

It is a very frustrating situation for sure. As you have tried multiple controllers, it's highly unlikely that all the controllers are faulty, which points to either the headset or the software. You mentioned that the controller worked for about an hour and then disconnected again, which makes it look like a software issue.. If the headset or the controller was broken it would never connect in the first place. On the off chance just check that the tracking sensors are clean and don't have any dust or dirt on them in cases it's causing the loss of connection, and of course that there's enough light in the room. If none of that helps, I would send a bug report through the bug reporting tool on the headset itself and hopefully they'll fix it. Given the behaviour you've outlined, it's 99.9% a software bug. As your software update tool attempt failed, it's also pointing to buggy software. You're on v2.4. Is it still the PTC version?

Hey mate, thank you for the response, I’ve confirmed it was never on the PTC, lenses clean, I also removed the silicon face padding, still no luck unfortunately though.

the only thing I didn’t get to try was the bug report, but since then I tried factory resetting again now I’m stuck back on the pair controllers screen.

all my right hand controllers I’ve tried the light has been flashing on them all, but no luck, also when I try to pair them on the phone app, it says (updating firmware), but then it just gets sticks and doesn’t even pair.

it’s very odd, wondering what has caused this all, thanks!
