Casting to phone does not show the full view

When I cast my Meta Quest 3 to my phone with screen ratio 21:9, I see pretty much nothing of what the person is looking at and I constantly tell them to look down. Then I noticed that even when I record the screen or when I take a screenshot, what I see doesn't align with what's recorded. In the video below I trace the edges of my field of view with my finger. As you can see, there is a large portion of the video that I don't see through my headset and a large portion that I see, but it's not being recorded. Combine that with cropping the video to fit a wide-screen phone and what the person looks at is often beneath what's visible.

Hey there, SamDaniel2022! Thank you for providing this information. We understand how important it is for a person to be able to fully see what is being cast from the headset. If you have also tried all of the troubleshooting that we've provided in this thread, we highly recommend submitting this issue as a potential bug if you haven't done so. This can be done either through the headset or the mobile application, and the steps to do this can be found here.

We hope this information helps! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out via PM here!

I am also getting this problem. Whether I cast on a PC or Phone, I can't see the bottom of what the player is looking at. It's rally frustrating.

Hey there, kethus, and Dom_Lydz. Thanks for bringing your casting experiences to our attention. We definitely want you all to be able to enjoy what is being seen by those playing with the headset, so we'd love to take a further look into things!

To help us get started, we would like to confirm the following:

  • Does this only happen in one of several games while casting?
  • Have you been able to enjoy watching on a full screen prior?
  • Have you been able to adjust your device's display settings?
  • Ensure your device, mobile phone and PC are fully up-to-date.
  • Headset type? (Quest 3, Quest 2, Quest Pro, ect.)

Once we're able to gather these details, we'll continue looking into this concern further.

This has happened with 4 games so far, Beat Saber, A Golf game, and two other games (can't remember the names now).

We have had this issue since we purchased the Quest 3 about 3 weeks ago so have never had full viewing. The headset has been reset twice for other issues we have had too so a reset will not resolve it.

Are you referring to the device display settings as in if its square or landscape etc?

Both PC and Mobile phones have been fully up to date with all software and drivers when testing.

The headset is the quest 3.

Thanks.

I also have this issue. I try to record/stream my DCS (Digital Combat Simulator), but my recordings see more of the upper cockpit rather than what I'm looking at. I came here to find a fix but there isn't one listed as of 20 March. I am using a Quest 2. I guess the search for a fix will continue.

Same issue here with a Quest 3 that I jst purchased. When recording video I need to tilt my head down and look as high as I can with my eyes in order to capture what I would normally be looking at. I basically have to rest my chin on my chest.

I'm pitching in with the same problem. Moving the headset downward so it mainly sits on my cheekbones, combined with tilting my head down and moving my eyes up seems to align the recorded area with my view.

I'm on v64

Edit: attached a picture taken from within the quest. I aligned my view with the piece of 80ies wallpaper (read: I would not see the other white wallpaper above) with the ruler ending close to the center of view

Hey there gusriady, we notice that you are experiencing issues with casting, so we would like to ask you what device you are using to perform casting?

We also have an article that has troubleshooting guide for the device you're trying to cast on like on a phone, computer, or VR here.

Please let us know what other troubleshooting steps you have attempted in addition to resetting your device.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

I cast using the Quest 2 and Meta software. I record and store my videos using OBS. I have an Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 capture card as well. I also have DaVinci Resolve to edit the videos but the resulting videos are good enough quality to bother. Some videos seem to have low latency, lag and/or stuttered imaging. It's either looking too high or is zoomed in somehow. The central eye level is not centered in the video. System is as listed:

ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero, BIOS 2102 (not, I haven't updated it yet to address the Intel issue)

Intel i9 13900K

Nvidia RTX 4080

64 GB Oloy 6000 Mhz (quad channel)

10 TB Western Digital SN850X storage

Windows 11

I would attach a video, but it says I don't have permission to do so. Yes, I have an account and I am currently signed in.

This is the first step. I've checked all my connections and ensured all my software was up to date. I am recording/steaming the video using OBS software just to the computer, not online. I wanted to use DaVinci Resolve to edit assuming it would help improve the video, it doesn't. The headset visuals are fine but the recording is like 2 or 3 degree high from eye level and zoomed in a bit. What I center my eyesight on in the headset is not centered in the recording. I run the Meta software the Quest Link or Rift so that I can link with the computer/monitor. I select monitor 1, which is where my flight simulator displays. I open OBS, the Meta website for casting is linked to it and I am logged in. It all connects and displays seemingly normal. I hop in the jet and, again, it's good in the headset but displays at a higher degree and slightly zoomed in. My apologies for the repetitive mentions, but I'm trying to detail it as much as I can.

Unfortunately the issue still remains. The "lean forward and recenter view" option does work, but it is not as useable. I fly a combat flight sim (DCS) and when I do this, the seat clips in to the viewer. So if I'm looking around, trying to find the opponent or find land markers, when looking too far left or right, the seat clips into view. I am also sitting too far back to properly use my HUD. Guess I'll keep working at it since there are no remedies for it.

I thought it was because I was recording in 16:9 instead of squared, but I remember that casting directly to TV also looks like that. Was it always like that? I don't remember my previous unit having this problem. Sad to see it's also not only unresolved but unacknowledged.

To Everyone on this Post. Clearly, it's a device issue. I sold my 128gb Model to get the 512gb Model - This issue DOES NOT persist in the new 512gb Quest 3 I bought. So I believe it's definitely a bad batch of production with some issue - Which may/may not be fixed with a software update. Screen-Recording on this Quest 3 is pretty much like I'd want it to be.

So MetaStoreHelp  Just resetting the device and stuff - isn't really the issue. It's hardware related and device specific.

I have the Quest 2. Not buying the Quest 3 to fix my issue. If they can't fix my issue with this one, why bother investing in another product? (rhetorical)

Btw, if anyone is still struggling with this. This doesn't fix it, as it's built to be like that (for some reason), but:

- Casting or recording squared instead of widescreen resolution cuts less of the bottom of the screen.
- Most importantly, disabling "screen stabilization" is a must, as having it on (even at low) will zoom it a ton and cut a bunch of your FOV on every side.

With these 2 settings in mind, you'll be able to mostly cast, but the "camera" is still tilted up, instead of straight ahead. Only God knows why would they make a choice like that. It's 100% software/firmware sided and it should be fixable. If Meta ever desires.
