Casting to phone does not show the full view

When I cast my Meta Quest 3 to my phone with screen ratio 21:9, I see pretty much nothing of what the person is looking at and I constantly tell them to look down. Then I noticed that even when I record the screen or when I take a screenshot, what I see doesn't align with what's recorded. In the video below I trace the edges of my field of view with my finger. As you can see, there is a large portion of the video that I don't see through my headset and a large portion that I see, but it's not being recorded. Combine that with cropping the video to fit a wide-screen phone and what the person looks at is often beneath what's visible.

Hey there, SamDaniel2022! Thank you for providing this information. We understand how important it is for a person to be able to fully see what is being cast from the headset. If you have also tried all of the troubleshooting that we've provided in this thread, we highly recommend submitting this issue as a potential bug if you haven't done so. This can be done either through the headset or the mobile application, and the steps to do this can be found here.

We hope this information helps! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out via PM here!

Also getting the same problem, screen casting to computer and chromecast is tilted upwards by about 30 degrees. Makes watching someone else play pointless and really subtracts from the experience.  This is on a brand new Quest 3.

Disappointing to see the lack of help and acknowledgement from meta on this when there are plenty of people struggling.  Any fixes found?

Oh, it might be as simple as changing the cast setting option to Landscape instead of Square....seems to have fixed the cast issue I had, for now at least.

+1. Just did a factory reset, reinstalled mobile, PC apps and firmware all up to date. Casting/recording in landscape. Issue persists.

Hi everyone 👋

For anyone still experiencing this issue with not seeing the same as what's on the headset when casting, I'm going to forward this onto the engineers to look into 👀

I'll need some details from a few of you in the thread to send to the techies 🛠 For anyone who'd like their details reported, please confirm:

  • A short summary of the specific issue you are having with casting:
  • Headset model:
  • Software Version Meta Quest Mobile App:
  • Software Version Meta Quest Headset:
  • Headset Runtime Number:
  • Headset Firmware:

When I have enough sets of details then I can get it to the engineers to investigate . Thanks guys 🙂

Honestly, this issue is so old that I've given up on casting. All I can tell you is that I have a Quest 2 with the latest updates/patches and I used a OBS Studio for casting. I got the set up instructions from a couple of YouTube videos because I'm not at all savvy about OBS. Not too sure on the timeframe, but I don't believe I've used it or made any attempts to cast in at least 8 months. I gave up on trying since Meta seems to be ignoring this issue/thread. They will send an email maybe every 3 or 4 months asking the same question instead of reading these posts. I'm about due for another one.

Hey, mstrwil,
Apologies if I'm repeating advice someone else has already given but have you noticed any difference when adjusting the capture settings in the Camera app?

I've seen a few users say they've resolved the angled view by switching from Landscape (1080x1920) to Square and the high zoom is likely caused by the Image Stabilization option, which you can turn off.

Please do let us know if you have any luck with that or not. Even if it doesn't help, it's another thing we can tick off and tell the techies about!

If I don't take my foot off the gas, I might miss it all. ⪤ Quest 3 | Rift S, Quest, Quest 2, Pico 4 ⪤ MSI RTX 4070, i7-13700F, 64GB DDR5 5600MHz ⪤ Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer | Shiny Caramel Transparent | Brown Polarised

Well, the replies prompted me to take a look at my set up after all these months. I deleted my settings in OBS and started fresh. I did a search on YouTube for "quest 2 obs" and came across a 4 minute and 26 second video by Paul Plays VR. It's a quick video and all he does is to show you how to set up the scene in OBS for oculus casting. I stuck with the 1920 x 1080 set up for now and it works fine. Played the recorded content back just to check the results and the sight window matches what you see. It's not zoomed in or high sighted.

I would like to note that I have tried enabling developer mode and when I select "cinematic 16:9" the casting/recording is properly centered, it is only the flat 16:9 that isn't.

Developers, please provide for users abbility to select casting resolution and format of screen from headset, so users could set cinematic 16:9 and cast full palyer view in basic headset settings.  In addition, if that posible, plese prodise abbility to select square of view from quest screen that will be casted if the screen are cut in any manner.

Now the experience of casting to meta app and web are terrible because of that cutting of bottom view where often dispalyed critically important interface (and experiance) of the game. In Developer Hub when casting in 16:9 cinematic mode the view is even wider than player can see. So it's 100% possible to cast that view to the app and web and it's not a hardwere deffect or something.

You are working so hard on new ui and so on... But this is very high priority issue that ruins user experience for all users that are using casting feature.

I have the exact same problem as everyone else. Seems to be quite common. When I cast to my phone, the video is not aligned the same as my headset. The cast video is aligned higher than the headset video and cut off the bottom of the video shown in the headset.

I have the same issue. Makes it difficult to share an experience with other people in the same room as they can’t see all the action cast to a TV.

I just gave up. I thought it fixed itself, but nah.
