You now have the option to unsync photos from your phone app!

Thanks to the latest update on the phone app, you can easily open your gallery, browse through your pictures and videos, and delete them directly from the cloud using a convenient delete from cloud button.

If you're still unable to delete your media, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the phone app completely or check if your phone is up to date.

Hi there, Gary! We see you would like to delete photos from your device. In order to do this please go to your Settings, then to your Storage. In your Storage you will see a drop down menu that says Applications, and you'll want to switch that to Images. There you should see a trash icon next to your images that will allow you to delete your photos. We hope this helps!

Hey so I am having the same problem with the app not wanting to unsync the photos I have on there and I deleted the photos on my quest so I don't know what to do

I think you need to change this. It is absurd that deleting an image from the gallery is so unintuitive. Even in the phone app I can't find a way to delete them, why can't it be like any other photo gallery and be able to select and delete them?

Totally agree! In another thread, they list the solution as a total reset which I don’t buy since the issue is with the phone app not the headset. I have tried deleting phone app and reinstalling which doesn’t work.

Easiest way i do it is plug it into my pc and view it through File Explorer.

Other way is go to your photos click on "..."  that's the menu prompt for what you want to do with it, you can delete it that way, also im pretty sure you can delete them through your phone app as well.

I completely agree! There should be a possibility to delete/desync photos and videos from the smartphone app! It's ridiculous that this is not possible. @MetaQuestSupport give us this possibility pls!

The solution. It’s an issue with sync. So to get rid of gallery items in your iPhone app you have to unsync and delete anything you don’t want in the oculus first. Then save new random screenshots in some innocuous app. Then go to files then media. Turn your sync function on (should be a cloud). Go back into your IPhone app and refresh. You should start to see new screenshots displace the gallery items You didn’t want.

the issue is simply that the iPhone app holds onto what ever the last media was that you saved or took on the oculus and somehow you probably turned off sync in an effort to get rid of these. Now, no matter how many times you delete it on the oculus the iPhone media remains. This is because it’s unable to insert newly synced media.

on meta’s end, they need to simply add a way to disable displaying recently synced items of you choose not to have them on there.

hope this helps.

I thought I was doing something wrong. But no, it looks like the problem I've been having others also have and it has been going on for months (and months). Any chance the problem of deleting media from the iphone app has been solved? Or will be solved soon? I noted there was a solution, but it seemed inordinately time-consuming and convoluted.
EDIT: in the meantime, light bulb moment. Email media to your email account by sending as an attachment inside the Quest 2 directly? Another convoluted solution, but maybe more successful?

The only thing that worked for me is to add a bunch of new photos of say a wall or something. Next turn off the feature that forces your photos to be uploaded to your account. Only thing is that this just replaces photos. It does not give you the option to delete photos.

Possible solution:

When I click on the media on the mobile app (android) and it plays/shows I get a trash icon at the top, this deleted the file from my phone.

Have you deleted those photos from the metaquest first?

I could not see them on the headset anymore, neither in the Foto app, nor the file browser but it was still on my phone app. Weirdly the list and when marking media there is no delete button but when I watched the video I recognized that there is a delete button at the top. Do you mean it doesn't show for you?
