How do I set up Casting from a child’s account?

We’ve just purchased a quest 3 for my child for his Birthday, we’ve managed to set him up a child’s account supervised from my account (I won’t ever be using the device but set up my account just so I can manage his), but we can’t seem to cast to a tv/phone so we can watch him play? He asks us questions whilst he is playing, but we can’t help as can’t see what he’s doing, it says in order to cast we need to log in as me on the headset but then he wouldn’t be playing on his own account and wouldn’t be safe. Could you please let me know how we can set up casting from his account? Many thanks 😊

Hi there Volthyzer! Thank you for reaching out! We understand you are curious on why casting from a child account is not an option. At this time, it isn't currently a feature that we offer for child accounts, but this could possibly change in the future, as we are constantly upgrading to fit the enjoyment of our customers. We recommend submitting your idea to our Ideas Forum so that you can possibly be implemented in the future. We hope you find this information helpful and we appreciate you for being apart of our Quest Family!

With it being 2 whole years since this topic has been brought up, and the idea of being able to monitor what our children do, and easily assist them with casting, this feels like there NEEDS to be a solution by now.

Come on Meta. Do Beta

(See what I did there?)

Hello there, Mr. Womach!

Indeed we saw what you did, we liked it and here is the answer!

Depending on the age of the child, there will be limitations to cast to a different screen since this functionality is reserved for 13+ users. If the children are past this age, you can follow this public article that explains How to Cast from your Meta Quest device.

Once you have the information you need to cast, you can visit this other article that explain How to Watch your Child's or Teen's Meta Quest activity in real time.

We hope these guides will help clarify any doubts, feel free to send us a message if you have any queries or problems, we are always happy to assist!

Hi all,

I wanted to circle back here with an update. It’s now been 10 months since I first raised this issue and 1 year, 10 months, and 6 days (676 days total) since the original thread by Lyndsey123456 was opened on 2 November 2023.

Back then, Meta’s official reply was: “At this time, it isn’t currently a feature that we offer for child accounts.” Almost two years later, that same limitation still exists, and the thread is still marked Solved.

The reality is that nothing has changed:

  • Child accounts still cannot cast or screen share.
  • Parents are forced to pick between supervision (casting) or safety (parental controls) — we can’t have both.
  • The only workaround is setting a child up as an adult account, which defeats the purpose of parental supervision entirely.

This isn’t a minor feature request. It’s a fundamental safety and usability issue that Meta has left unaddressed for nearly two years.

Here’s the biggest contradiction. Meta’s most recent response (18 days ago) pointed us to the “How to Cast from your Meta Quest device” help article, which was updated just 6 weeks ago. That article clearly states:

“In addition to casting from your primary account, you can also cast from a secondary account.”

This is factually incorrect for supervised child accounts. Despite being a type of secondary account, supervised accounts are blocked from casting. Meta’s own documentation gives parents the impression that casting should work, when in reality it doesn’t.

Pointing us back to this article only highlights the problem: Meta’s public-facing help resources don’t even acknowledge the restriction on child accounts. Instead, parents are pushed toward “activity reports,” which are not the same as real-time visibility. These reports don’t let us answer questions, guide our children, or supervise live gameplay — they’re no substitute for casting.

Parents need visibility into what their children are doing in VR — not just for peace of mind, but to guide them, answer questions, and keep them safe. Until child accounts can cast while retaining parental controls, this issue is very much unresolved.

Best regards,
Steve Lewis

I also want to share my 2 cents that this needs to be a feature!

Has there been any update yet?  We got the Meta Quest 3s as a family christmas present this year.   I allow my 4 and 6 year old to play on the parent profile so i can watch via casting, but my 10 year old wanted her own profile with her own avatar and all. i also liked the safety features of restricting which apps and worlds she has access to. However, I HATE that we cannot cast while she is playing.... seems like this has been an issues for years though...
