Known Issue - V65 - V67 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

Not a solution - Marking for visibility

Known Issue

Hello everyone!

I have observed that a significant number of users are still encountering the USB-Debris error even after the V64 fix was distributed to everyone. Consequently, I have taken the initiative to inform the team and create this fresh post in order to distinguish between those who faced the issue in the previous post and those who are currently experiencing it on V65-V67.

We would greatly appreciate if everyone could please provide the following information:

  1. What's the full version number of your headset? (62.0.0.####### or likewise)
    • Quick Settings > System > Software Update
  2. What's the full version number of your PC app? (62.0.0.####### or likewise)
    • General > Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  3. Is your PC app on PTC?
  4. Are you enrolled in Quest PTC?
  5. Any potential workarounds?
  6. Which headset is everyone using? Is this only happening with the Quest 3 currently, or is anyone experiencing the same thing on their Quest 2 and Pro

I'll do my best to keep you all updated as soon as I find out anymore information!

Update 5/26/24

Update 6/6/24

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update that there haven't been any major changes yet. However, I want you all to know that I'm actively monitoring this thread every day and passing on any information that users provide to the engineering team.

Update 6/11/24

The engineering team would like me to gather the serial numbers of the headsets of all those affected. Please send me a private message with your serial number.

Please do NOT send your serial number in this or any thread publicly.

Update 7/3/24

Thanks to all who sent in their Serial numbers. Our engineers are still looking into this matter and are working hard to resolve it in an future software update.

Update 7/9/24

We appreciate all those who have provided their serial numbers. If you are still encountering the issue even after updating to V66, please reach out to our support team via private message here for further troubleshooting assistance.

You mean its a good way to hide the 100s of pages of angry customers so you can pretend like this hasn't going on for many many months...

Frustratingly still have this issue and after requesting a replacement, I was informed cannot be done due to a chargeback issue which was not disclosed to the buyer who gifted me the Quest 3. I don’t know what that even means and wish that there was a way to resolve this. I do feel cheated, certainly as this was purchased in good faith and to be honest, I assumed it was shop bought. I am now on V67 and whilst the errors have subsided somewhat, they still appear.

Happened to me yesterday. Every USB port on my PC stopped working... Is it a joke? Oculus software has an ability to turn off usb on PC?

After that software kicked me off from my account and forced an update.

Now I see a pink area at the bottom my Q3.

Meta, can your awesome engineers stop breaking our experience with these super useful updates?

I have been experiencing this problem since early February, waited patiently for its fix, actively providing diagnostic information needed, and then the radio got silent so i thought it was fixed for good, and no, they just opened a new post and everyone is still complaining.

The thing is, you have burned away all my desire to put on that thing, let alone develop new software for it. How am i going to keep testing the new code if it "crashes" every few minutes.

Just when is the callback happening? Identify the hardware and just get it over with. If it is a software problem then it won't be just affecting a subset of us.

Unfortunately you have no recourse other to accept a refurbished headset even thought you paid for a new one. I will never again buy a Meta product unless I can buy it from a retail store that honors a true new for new replacement.  I will be getting my refurbished one when Meta feels an adequate time has elapsed. Currently am using my old Q2.  I truly think this thing is class action suite worthy but have no idea how to go about that

Constant water damage issues.  OEM cable link to PC still dead.

Going USB3 has left me with just single port rather than a ton of standard USB ports to help troubleshoot if it's the link or the port.....

well, they lost my returned headset. Talked to several people and they’re not sure where it’s at. Just bought an xbox. Enough of this BS

UPDATE

I bought my Quest 3, brand new, on October 2023. I had it for 10 months and never had an issue with the USB-C Debris/Water until August 11, 2024 on v68.0. I contacted Meta Support. They wanted to replace the VR headset with a refurbished unit, but I asked them to send me a replacement charger and cable first to see if that fixes the issue. The new charger cable fixed the problem. I guess that the one I had must have got worn out, despite me taking good care of it. My plan is to buy some backup Anker USB C to USB C cables. They cost around $10 for two cables, so $5 each. I think that our backup charging cables should be brand new and never been used before. If you have some cables that seem to be in good condition, they might still be worn out enough to cause the water/debris error. That's why I recommend having NEW charging cables as backups.

Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:27:29 AM): I understood from you that your return headset has been lost, is that correct?
John (8/13/2024, 8:28:18 AM): Yes
John (8/13/2024, 8:28:33 AM): thst is what I understand
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:28:44 AM): I'm really sorry to hear about that, I know how important this is for you.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:28:51 AM): I'll really try my best to get this sorted out
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:29:34 AM): From my end I can see that your return has been already delivered to you, but since you're saying it's not. Can you please confirm with me your shipping address?
John (8/13/2024, 8:29:58 AM): it has not been delivered. My address is XXXXXXCXCCC, WI XXXXX
John (8/13/2024, 8:30:23 AM): they could not give me any info last week. I got no tracking or notification
John (8/13/2024, 8:30:47 AM): my return was delivered to meta and then all communication stopped
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:31:12 AM): Please allow me a minute to check further.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:34:13 AM): I was going to assign your case to the specialized team, but I see that it has already been.
John (8/13/2024, 8:34:52 AM): I’m not confident and want resolution today please. Either overnight a new headset or refund my money.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:35:45 AM): Assigning your case to the specialized team is really the extend of support I can provide you with, however I'll inform them with your request.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:36:01 AM): They are who should be able to assist you further with your request.
John (8/13/2024, 8:36:34 AM): I sent them an email with no reply. I will need to contact my attorney and the Better Business Bureau as this is quite frankly unacceptable.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:38:52 AM): I totally understand how you are feeling, and allow me to explain to you that your case is currently being handled by our specialized team.
John (8/13/2024, 8:39:09 AM): They need to contact me today with a resolution
John (8/13/2024, 8:39:37 AM): Since they don’t reply to me, then you need to tell them
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:40:08 AM): They will reach out to you as soon as possible, I have already informed them with this.
John (8/13/2024, 8:40:53 AM): today. The next you hear from me will be through my attorney. Too bad I’ll likely pay more for the attorney than the headset is worth but this is unacceptable.
John (8/13/2024, 8:41:43 AM): i will never buy another meta product at this point.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:42:08 AM): I really understand, I am really doing all I can do to assist you with your request and have already informed our specialized team about this. They're already working on it at the moment.
John (8/13/2024, 8:43:07 AM): ok thank you. I know it’s not your fault but this headset starting failing at 2 months. Software update was supposed to fix it and didn’t. At 4 months they told me to send it back for replacement and now it’s lost.
John (8/13/2024, 8:45:06 AM): All they need to do is send me another headset. It shouldn’t be that hard
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:45:53 AM): I'm really sorry to hear about that, there could be many reasons for this to happen and once we get our hands on what is causing this we'll provide you the best resolution possible.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:47:18 AM): I'm really sorry for you going through this, we're really trying our best to provide our customers with the best experience possible.
John (8/13/2024, 8:48:29 AM): Well, I don’t see that. I sent my headset back, Meta received it, then it is lots and I’m the one out $500.00 plus whatever I paid for the other accessories and games
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:49:10 AM): We will really provide you the best compensation possible for you once we find out what is the cause of that since it could be the shipping company or many other things
John (8/13/2024, 8:49:38 AM): Easy solution would be to overnight me a new headset and your team sort it out later. That is my expectation and what I always did as a department manager
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:50:50 AM): I will tell our specialized team if they can make an exception for you and do as you requested.
John (8/13/2024, 8:51:51 AM): Thank you. It shouldn’t have to be an exception to take care of issues that arise on your end. That’s sad that it has to be the ex epitome to provide good customer service when these things cost what they do
John (8/13/2024, 8:52:15 AM): exception not ex epitome.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:52:48 AM): I will let our specialized team know about our chat and they'll assist you with the best way possible once they review the information and the best resolutions for your situation.
Elsyed96 (8/13/2024, 8:52:54 AM): I'm really sorry for you
John (8/13/2024, 8:53:03 AM): thank you. I’ll let you go now.

TLDR: liquid/debris error appears resolved with a different (more powerful) charger.

New Quest3 user. Primarily for Meta Link and DCS. Using INUI cable for link that allows charger to be plugged into "cable" (https://www.amazon.com/INIU-Compatible-Accessories-Transfer-Separate/dp/B0BRQMFDQ3)

So I'm not exactly typical. Every night, when plugging the Q3 stock charger/cable into the INUI link cable, my sessions would be interrupted with the liquid/debris error.

Clearly the Q3 doesnt have a liquid/debris detector, so I figured it was inferring this error electronically based on power fluctuations. Replaced stock charging plug with a 100w USB charger (I cant imagine the q3 will pull the full 100!), and haven't seen the error since.

If I get some time, I will measure wattage draw with stock charger and 100w charger to see if there is a difference.

Thank you for the Info about the charging plug, i bought a new one with 33w and the problem is gone.

Using the Quest3 withe the Link-Cable the last 3 days at online racing without any problems or debris warning!
