Question

Meta Link freezes after a few seconds

After installing latest Meta Horizon Windows app update (85.0.0.239.552), the display inside headset freezes (sometimes goes black, similar to when proximity sensor kicks in, but while still wearing VR headset)  after a few seconds after establishing cabled link (official 5m cable). Have to restart PC and re-establish Link to get it to work again, but then same happens after a few seconds. Can still hear audio inside headset, and when using games it seems to do head tracking (monitor screen updates, but not inside headset). This also happens inside the Meta Link view (grey environment with grid floor and ceiling inside VR headset after establishing link).

Firmware in VR headset is also on latest version,

This happened after updating Meta Horizon Windows app on 3rd/4th March. Before this it was working perfect.

Have tested this on 4 different PC's, with 3 different Meta Quest 3 headsets and one Quest Pro, with same result.

Hardware on test PC's:

Windows 11, different i9 processors (13th/14th gen, Intel Core Ultra 9), RTX 5090 laptop, RTX 5070 Ti Desktop, RTX 4090 desktop. 64GB RAM,

NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Drivers 595.71 WHQL driver + latest Windows updates

Update:

The stream continues to freeze even with the Nvidia "Game Ready Driver" v610.47. The issue persisted even after updating Meta Link to v201.0.0.211.547 via PTC!

So, I’ve rolled back to v591.86 again and sent another error report to Nvidia—though, unfortunately, that hasn't achieved anything so far.

Perhaps everyone here on the forum experiencing the same problem should also report this freezing issue via the Nvidia app.

Still not working for me with the latest nvidia drivers v610.62. Q3/512GB is on v2.4 (17/06/2026), and Meta Horizon Link v85.0.0.306.552.

Exactly the same issue I've had since buying the Q3; the headset image freezes soon after launching an app over the PC Link, but the apps (DCS and FS2024) continue to run on the PC. The frozen image in the headset is surrounded by jagged edges.

Reverted back to nvidia drivers v591.86, and all is well...again!

This is VERY frustrating!

Specs: Alienware 18 Area-51, Intel Ultra 9 275HX, Nvidia RTX 5070, 32GB RAM, Windows 11 (25H2), official Oculus 5M Link cable. Optimus disabled.

I also rolled back to 591.86 and now it works again. So much wasted time. Please Meta get this fixed with Nvidia.

I have had this issue for almost 3 months now, my headset is literally impossible to use unless I'm playing Quest standalone. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Hi, the only way to go is installing Nvidia Driver 591.86 version. No driver after this solve the issue.

I have had success with he latest Nvidia driver as of today, 610.62. Tried out various games the Meta Horizon Link USB and no issues after a few hours of use.  Thanks Nvidia/Meta.

Maybe there should be some more transparency with these kind of issues. Is there a website to view current issues Meta indicates they are working on, or at least, a list of running fixes for each Meta update?

104th_Crunch  Also working great with previous 610.47 driver.  BTW, I always use DDU in safe mode to fully uninstall previous drivers beforehand.  Cheers.

Has anybody tested this out after todays update? July 9th 2026, 610.74. I found this forum and reverted back to 591.86 once I found out this was an issue, but I'm very surprised that this hasn't been resolved with how long it's been going on now...

Just tried the new drivers with the quest 2. Complete fresh install of horizon link even deleted all files. Still crashed but I got further into the game than usual maybe 20-25 minutes of play time? I typically only get 5mins.

Same problem here.
Updated everything. Nvidia 610.74. Latest meta software. screen keeps freezing after 10/ 20 minutes of playing. Game continues, sound continues. just a fully frozen headset.

really annoying I mainly use the headset for racing games. Just cant use it like this. It worked fine for a long period. and now meta broke it again...
