Meta Quest 2 suddenly not connecting to WiFi

For some reason, my Meta Quest 2 has decided to not connect to my home WiFi network completely today. It was working just fine yesterday, as I was on in the evening. But now, even though it shows the WiFi network, the strength on it is excellent, it's working on all my other devices and the three computers within my household, it just gives me the "Failed to connect to WiFi" on my Quest 2 every single time.

I've tried all the "general solutions" that have been suggested... restart your headset, update your Oculus app, update your headset, reset your router, forget the network and reconnect, etc, etc... Everything short of a factory reset, which I'm trying to AVOID, as it's now a MESS to even set up an account anymore. I don't want to have to go thru all this if I don't have to.

To say this is frustrating me is an understatement. I've not experienced issues like this over the years I've owned my headset, and now, I can't do anything but use it as a paperweight at the moment. If there is anyone that has any type of information on why this is occuring, please enlighten me. I'm at my wits end here.

Thank you so much for trying all the troubleshooting steps provided. Let's go ahead and try a few more steps before we can look into other options. We would like to request that you try to perform a factory reset. Performing a Factory reset will wipe all information and data off the device. Some of this data can be restored by enabling Cloud Backups beforehand.

However, keep in mind that while Cloud Backup is available to all Meta Quest developers, it's up to developers to decide whether to enable this feature for their app and what data is backed up. You can find which installed apps have Cloud Backups enabled on the Cloud Backups page of your Meta account profile. Once you've set up Cloud Backups, ensure your device is fully charged, then proceed with the directions.

Factory Reset from Meta Quest mobile app:

  1. Open the Meta Quest app on your phone.
  2. Tap Devices in the bottom menu.
  3. Tap the headset connected to your phone.
  4. Tap Advanced Settings.
  5. Tap Factory Reset and then Reset.

We hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to us in a private message for further assistance! Click on our profile, then click "Send a Message."

Another one here. Quest 2 suddenly won't connect to home WiFi. Not 5ghz or 2.5.
It worked fine, it was downloading the latest quest update, when I came back to it, it refuses to connect with "IP configuration failure".
Tried restarting the router. Tried forgetting and re-adding the networks. Tried connecting WiFi VIA the mobile APP. Tried factory resetting the Quest 2. Tried factory resetting VIA the mobile APP. Same problem persists.

Mobile hotspot seems to work. Did the latest update make the headset incompatible with some Wifi routers or something?

Update v69, installed VIA mobile hotspot, seems to have fixed my WiFi 2.4Ghz connection. Still no luck with 5Ghz, but at least it's something.

I had the same problem and this fixed it for me ->

Instead of going into the settings and trying to fix it in wifi (as you'd expect)

Click the profile avatar/picture/icon on the bar, to the left of the 'quick settings' icon (by clock/wifi icons)

Here, you'll get a message saying you're not connected to wifi and you get some option to setup your connection, from HERE .. setup your wifi again and magic .. doing it in this menu rather than in the settings just worked fine for me!

(I was just short of doing a factory reset!... I had tried everything else..)

This problem was fixed by the latest update v71

I've had this problem for the last couple of weeks with v72. I tried many things and none worked permanently. Some (changing some wifi settings - random/hardware mac, wpa2/3, ssid, etc., in the headset or in the router) worked for a few hours and then the problem returned.

I have since set up wifi sharing from my mac (had to connect mac to the router with the cable for that to work). And it is now working flawlessly. Inconvenient, yes (because of the extra cable and 2nd wifi) but it will do for now. Hopefully this gets fixed.

I now recalled that my router also didn't work with a 2016 Samsung TV, it had a similar issue, so I just gave up on that and set up Apple TV with it. But everything else connects fine (almost a dozen devices). My router is the 5g Sagemcom from T-Mobile.

I had this exact problem. (as I said in another reply but I can't seem to add to that)

The solution was to give the IT department the MAC address of each of the Quest 2 headsets and they were able to add them to a whitelist of allowed devices on the hidden wifi network. The MAC address can be found in the Settings - General - About.

I said earlier that our university Quest 2s are now connecting to the hidden wifi network, thanks to adding their MAC addresses to a whitelist of allowed devices.

In addition, I wanted to add that whilst IT were investigating the issue, their network monitors showed that the handshaking protocol never completed. The Quest 2 would ask for a connection, the wifi router offered it, but the headset would not accept it. Maybe someone took a shortcut with the code for wifi connections that is exposed in particular circumstances? Just adding this as extra information,
