Meta Quest 3 PC Link continually freezing & I can't use WiFi Airlink

I recently purchased a Meta Quest 3 to use with Emulate3D for machine VR simulations. I'm connecting the headset to my PC using the official Meta Link cable and the Meta Horizon Link app. I DO NOT want to use WiFi to connect my headset and PC because of the security risks and because my PC is much stronger and can run large simulations much better.

The headset initially works perfectly. After connecting through Link, I can access the Link dashboard, view my PC desktop in VR, launch Emulate3D, and enter a live VR simulation. Everything runs normally at first and I can walk around the model and interact with it without any issues.

The problem is that after a few minutes, the headset display freezes completely. The image inside the headset becomes locked on the last rendered frame, and when I move my head around, the final frame stays where it was and the rest of my view is black and pixelated. The controllers also stop responding inside the headset. I have determined that Emulate3D itself is not the problem because this same error happens after a few minutes of just sitting in the Link dashboard without doing anything.

What's interesting is that Emulate3D itself does not crash. The simulation continues running normally on the PC. More importantly, the Emulate3D VR viewer on the desktop continues to respond to both headset and controller movement after the headset display freezes. If I move the headset around while watching the monitor, the camera view inside Emulate3D still updates correctly. This makes me think that the PC is still receiving tracking information from the headset and controllers, but the video stream being sent back to the headset has stopped working.

Within the Horizon Link app, it alternates between these two messages: "Your computer doesn't meet the updated minimum specifications, which can lead to poor experience in VR" and "You won't be able to use the link feature, as your hardware is incompatible with it". Which are both frustrating/confusing because I have literally been able to use the Link feature.

I also get this notification when I turn my headset off while the cable is still plugged in: "Link stopped working. If this problem persists, there may be an issue with your cable."

I ran the built-in Link cable test in Meta Horizon Link and it reports a compatible USB 3 connection with approximately 2.7 Gbps of bandwidth so I don't think it's a cable issue either.

My only fix right now is restarting my PC and headset and connecting them when it turns back on. The link works for a few minutes then stops. Twice it has also gotten stuck on the purple loading page to go into the Link dashboard. Sometimes, instead of the frozen frame and pixels, it also just goes into passthrough mode and I can't do anything, not even with the controller buttons.

Are there any fixes to this or different connection apps I could download to connect to my PC. I know there's SteamLink, but like I said I only want a tethered PC connection.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

I'm having the same issue as you guys. It's a brand-new headset and I've had this problem occur five or six times since I set it up yesterday. My PC, Internet and cable are more than capable of keeping a steady connection, but the same problem happens to me over link cable AND air-link during SteamVR and Meta Horizon Link. Only 'fix' I've found is power-cycling the headset but that's hardly a solution!

If you're using an NVIDIA graphics card and the installed driver version is higher than 591.86, try rolling back to driver version 591.86; in my case, it fixed the problem. I can't verify whether the error is caused by the latest Meta-Link update or the NVIDIA driver, as I haven't found a way to roll back Meta-Link.

Regards

Update: Even the latest NVIDIA driver 610.88 still does not fix the problem.

It*s a known issue:

Will this work with a NVIDIA RTX 4000 Ada Generation card?

Hi,

While the NVIDIA RTX 4000 Ada Generation card forms the basis for the RTX 4060–4090 series, it isn't optimized for gaming; instead, it is a workstation card designed for CAD, ray tracing, etc. I can't really say whether games will run on the card

Same for me. Stuck on loading screen.
Meta Horizon Link version 206.0.0.109.432 which just installed for me does not seem to have fixed the problem.
Quest is v2.6 Build 5234532.4040.520

egeg007  if you stuck on the loading screen try the workaround below.

This issue is caused by ASW being messed up in an update pushed before August, there's nothing you can do because it's purely a Meta software issue, the debug menu will reset its cache when you launch link or another app while in PCVR , it has nothing to do with your drivers, I have tested many drivers above 591.XX and 591+ itself and it still froze the same way every time randomly.

No issues here. After changing the ASW setting in ODT, you need to restart the OVRService for the setting to stick. It's always been like that 🤷‍♂️.

I have never had to restart the OVRService for the ASW setting in the debug menu to remember what it was last set to, its only versions 206 and 207 that are resetting it when it opens.

Restarting OVRService isn't making the settings stick, every time I open a game through my desktop in link the debug just resets itself when I open it back up.

Can you not read? There is a fix in the previous comments that work.. If you want to rant and rave try a soapbox in the park or maybe there's an agony aunt on reddit you can cry to. 😉

Lol. Your post is one of the more simplistic attempts at spamming. Reported.
