Meta Quest Link Update: Link Launch Issue Resolved

Hi everyone,
We recently identified an issue with Meta Quest Link unable to launch which caused users to be stuck in the app launch loading screen. We’ve now released an update that should resolve this problem.
What’s changed:

  • The main issue is fixed, and you should be able to use Meta Quest Link as expected.
  • Please note: For now, you won’t be able to see your hands in Dash. However, raycasts are visible, and you should be able to interact with games and other content as usual.

Thank you for your patience while we worked on this fix! If you continue to experience any issues, please let us know in the comments.

The Oculus Debug Tool doesn’t work properly! Every time I have to set it up again because it always resets to the default settings.

Tomiwilbury For me, the only Oculus Debug Tool (ODT) item that always resets to defaults after PC restarts are ASW modes (restarts to Auto).  I don't use the FOV setting but I think I remember that this also switched back to default (0:0).

ASW modes can easily be changed on the fly using the keyboard commands Ctrl+num1-4 (numeric keyboard numbers, not top row numbers).  Num1 = ASW off, 2 = forced 45fps (actually = 1/2 your refresh rate) with ASW off, 3 = forced 45fps with ASW on, 4 = ASW Auto (default).  These only work if you are using the meta-link pc app.  These will not work with Virtual Desktop (or SteamLink) because neither have official Oculus runtimes.  Cheers.

'Fixed', but at the cost of stability and performance with PC VR.

A real shame, as I had noticed constistant and worthwhile incremental improvements in PC VR performance over the past few months, and now all of those gains lost due to slovenly testing and release management.

Fewer releases that were properly tested with be prefereable to rushing new functionality out for most users.

Uninstall Windows Security Update KB5074109 and see if the Link performance returns. It worked for me.

Uninstalling KB5074109 didn't make any positive difference for me (using cable link with DCS).

Yeah... connection issues seemed to be resolved.
But its choppy as hell after starting a PCVR App/Game.
Performance looks OK, 90fps on PC, 90fps in the quest... but no, not usable.

Before 10:90 to get a connect but afterwards everthing was OK.
Now, 100:0 to get a connect but afterwards everthing went bad.

So please do another update to the Meta Horizon (Windows-)App and correct this!

It shuold be something with the base driver, because also SteamLink is affected.
Didn't test VDM (VirtualDesktopMobile) if its the same tho... no PCVR now!

Hi Buetigame

Windows recently released a security update, and we believe it may be related to the streaming performance issues. We’re actively investigating and working to confirm the root cause.

To help us narrow this down, we’re looking to hear from anyone who:

  1. Had no issues over the past week, but recently started seeing frame drops or other streaming problems.
  2. When was it working and when did it stop working as intended?
  3. Share your setup details, and thanks to those who already have. :)
  4.  Which Windows Quality Updates patch are you on?
  5. Did you recently install the Microsoft Windows security update -KB5074109. Thanks!

The first update to 83.0.0.333.349 works as intended... then there were a very fast "quick update" which didn't change the version string and cause the connection issues. Then there was another "quick update" to the Meta Horizon Link App (after reading this thread), the connection problems were resolved and the performance problems begun. Interestingly the performance "feels" better in many games like "Thief VR Legacy of Shadow"... but didn't test that before the two "quick updates" (without version string changes) of your development team.

And yes, of course I installed the security update... 10 days ago.

Hi, thanks for gathering this information.I need either a concrete solution or at least a clear timeline/ETA for a fix. I’ve been blocked for over a week now and unable to work on my projects because my workflow depends on PCVR (Quest Link/PC Link) and multimodal hand tracking (hands + controllers), which were broken by the v83 update. This is a critical regression for developers. If a fix cannot be delivered quickly, then the software should provide an official way to roll back to the last known working version (the version before v83), or offer a stable channel/build that restores the previous behavior.
Please advise on:
Whether a fix is already in progress and the expected ETA, or
An official rollback path / stable build that returns functionality while you work on the v83 fix.

Are your settings still the same after the update?

Yes, settings have not changed in either the Meta Link App and Game

Is the issue happening with Air Link, USB Link, or both?

USB Link

Describe the performance issue - and is it consistent? Does it normalize after a while? (e.g., stutter, frame drops, visual artifacts).

Whilst playing ACC this evening I experienced lagging and black screens which resulted in multiple crashes in race.  The race was 40 minutes long and the issues persisted for the entire duration.

Abdallah.hilali  Sorry mate but this is now unacceptable imho.  Not only do I lose seeing my controllers in VR dash, many meta-link apps will not startup and/or crash (eg. nature treks and glider island).  I tried opting into meta-link pc app beta (v85), not headset beta, and this did not make any difference.  Using Virtual desktop still works ok but these same meta-link apps still crash.

Everything was working fine a few days ago with latest non-beta v83 using both my Q3 and QPro sith Link and Air Link.  So, pretty obvious that there is a serious problem with the latest non-beta v83 meta-link pc app.  Please try to get your meta engineers to fix this issue and/or, in the meantime, rollback the meta-link pc app to an earlier version.

I'm now starting to appreciate my +6yo Vive Pro1 (with AMOLED screens, etsy lens mod, 2x2.0 base stations, and index controllers) more and more, lol!!!  Thanks, and cheers.

can you confirm the engineering team are aware that something is causing a chunk of users are missing the driver 'oculusudsvr' which leads to frequent freezing of the link app?

(this driver name was given to me by support)

I am unable to confirm if this issue has been present during the last week as this is the first time I have been able to use my headset following the previous issue.

My setup is a Quest 3 via link cable with a Intel I5 14600kf, 32 gb DDR 5 RAM and a RTX 4070 Ti GPU.

I can also confirm that the KB5074109 windows update is installed.

Uninstalling KB5074109 doesn't eliminate the performance problems using PC Link (USB).

I also have the same performance problems if I switch to PTC version of Horizon Link( v85).

Looks very much like the problem was introduced into the codebase in v83 branch, previous version (v81?) did not have this issue.

First signals about bad performance  in this stupid v83 pc  update was about 2 months Ago when you relase it in  PTUchannel  when meta change name app from oculus to Horizon . I saw  you was never interested to give even Answers to peopls  who gives you a Signal about losing performance in yours previous threads about 83 update … . In my case first „forced” relase of v83 was before christmas .i had to Cut off my bitrate from 960 to 500 mbps to be able to play smooth . After NEXT few update i had to cut off  bitrate more and more due to stuterring . But now  it is look like trash. And my quest 3 is unusable for me i am interested only in fly sim .
i see you look very surprisd about this situation but i don belive in your company no more . Why are you dont read a your own thread ? Why are  you dont do nothing  since  first buggy  relase v83? Why are you try to folish us  about Windows security update ?  I know only one , your developers dont  know what  they are doing … thats the fact . But i think i know solution for this situation . You should  fire yours developers and you should hire one guy his name is (Mbucchia developer of openxr toolkit ).  I am pretty shure he can find solution for your mess .
