No audio when using Oculus Link

I have no audio on my Quest headset when using Oculus Link.  These are all the things I have tried to resolve the issue:
  • Reboot PC and/or Quest and plugged things back in in many different orders.
  • Restarted the Oculus service.
  • Tried different USB ports.
  • Tried different USB cables.
  • Tried both an active and a passive extender.
  • Tried throwing a USB 3 hub into the mix just because, both as the first part of the chain and as the second part.
  • Tried with headphones plugged into the Quest and with them removed.
  • Tried toggling all the options related to sound that I could find within the software (Devices > Quest and Touch, all those sound options).
  • Repaired / reinstalled Oculus software.
  • Uninstalled Virtual Desktop Streamer app and its audio driver.
  • Changed my desktop speakers from 5.1 to stereo.
  • Attempted setting every single audio output device as default in Windows.
  • Plugged in my CV1, went through the setup, and then tried piping audio through the Oculus Rift Headphones audio output adapter.
  • Reinstalled oculus-driver.exe.
  • Opened a ticket with Oculus Support (they told me they won't support beta software, lol)
Is there anybody with the same issue who found a solution?  Or at this point is my only bet to wait a year until it stops being beta and Oculus Support actually tries to help?
EDIT: I finally got it working after uninstalling the NVIDIA HD Audio driver.
  1. On your keyboard, press Win+X > Select "Device Manager"
  2. Open up the "Sound, video and game controllers" node.
  3. Right click the NVIDIA High Definition Audio driver and choose "Uninstall device".

Hey everyone! It looks like this thread is still getting some traffic from the occasional user, so I'm going to go ahead and lock it. This looks like an issue that was present in the early days—dating back to V13. To avoid floating old threads with outdated information, I highly recommend creating a new thread detailing the new issue, so that our teams can monitor new emerging issues caused by recent releases—or other leading causes. I also recommend taking a look with the native search function to find a more recent existing thread with the same issue.

I posted this in the other thread, I'll ask here as well:

I'm using the HTC deluxe audio strap with my quest, and it sounds great when I'm not using Link. When I use Link, I still get sound, but it sounds awful. All bass/lows are removed from the audio. I can't figure out how to fix it.
I tried both "Quest Headset" and "Use Windows Settings" in the settings, but the results are the same, really crappy audio.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

*I fixed it. The oculus virtual drivers weren't working. Fixed that then it sounded normal.

Ok - been wrestling with crackling audio during games and managed to get myself in this mess.

God knows what fixed it but I can confirm that I got everything working again (I could hear the headset audio but the software still was saying there was an issue).

I fixed that by doing the following:

Right click speaker icon on taskbar
click "sounds"
in the "playback" and "recording" tab:

make sure the oculus device is enabled in each tab, for some reason mines had been disabled.

Sorry if this doesn't help, but thought I'd share in case it did.

Using official Link cable, and I have this dreaded "no audio" issue. Oculus control panel states the Quest is connected (and graphics work fine), but the audio is not being played back in the Oculus speaker.

I can get the sound to playback using regular speakers by playing around with sound settings and using Windows default sound output instead of the Oculus virtual sound output, but that's not really practical.

I can't understand why it would behave that way...

Hello fellow link users, I have the same problem, installed oculus quest link yesterday, All seems fine on the PC oculus app (and inside the quest) and the connection shows green status. I playes a little of vader imortal on link, but I get the notification that I have no sound on oculus device, sound works on my laptop. I do have the option under sound devices in the PC to choose oculus, but it doesn't solve the issue, it only takes sound away from PC, so no sound at all when I try that option. Is there an official standing by the devs on the issue, as I have seen lots of posts about it on reddit as well?

I'm having the same issue today.  The last thing I did was install and play Zero Caliber with a friend of mine on Jan 21st.  It was working just fine without any problems.  Today I fired everything up only to see a red icon and "no headset audio".

I have tried everything suggested in these forums to no avail.  I changed my windows sound settings, changed to a different driver, restarted both my headset and computer multiple times, messed with the audio settings in the oculus app, unplugged everything and changed all my sound devices back to my speakers then plugged everything back in.  I also tried a different USB port and a different USB cable.  Nothing is working.  As a side note I also have this problem when bypassing oculus link altogether and using the virtual desktop app to run SteamVR.  Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Uninstalling the oculus software from my PC fixed the audio problem when using virtual desktop but reinstalling it still didn't fix the link audio issue. I also uninstalled the virtual audio drivers and deleted the driver software, ran a repair, still nothing.

I've yet to get a single sound out of the Quest when using Link. Audio works totally fine with Virtual Desktop, but with Link I get flawless video, but no audio at all out of the Quest. I feel like I've pretty much tested every solution/workaround out there in the world wide web. From deleting, deactiving, installing various audio drivers, changing default audio device, all available combinations in the Oculus software, changing audio device while Link is running (Speaker or Oculus Virtual Audio Device), changing setup of speaker from 5.1 to headset, different cables, different USB-slots (usb-c and usb-a), reinstalling software and drivers and more... nothing seems to make any difference.

The Oculus Virtual Audio Driver (while showing fine in device manager) also for example brings an error pop-up when i try to play any test sound in setup, but as mentioned above, I've deleted/reinstalled everything too a few times and it doesn't make any difference... Probably it's the reason for the whole issue, but what do I know.

I kind of feel exhausted and don't know what else to do to get it working.

I don't know what exactly I can work out with that information, but can someone tell me if currently the Oculus Virtual Audio Device/Driver actually does anything? Is it relevant for anything? If I go to the Windows audio settings of that device and "Test" (the audio) under "Advanced", I just get an error that an error occured (and of course no sound is played). Is that normal at this point or are there people where this device works just fine and is actually used to make the sound via Quest work?

I'm trying to understand if I can stop wasting any more time trying to play around with that driver/device to get it working, or can I ignore it completey since it's not relevant at all to get audio out of the Quest at this stage?! The latter at least would tell me the issue is something else.

I never tried testing the oculus audio through the control panel before I had issues so I can't tell whether it would have played sound or not.

In my case I finally submitted a support ticket with oculus after trying a few more things (deleted oculus folders from user\appdata, removed all sideloaded applications and disabled nvidia overlay).  I ran the oculus diagnostics and sent the zipped report to support.  Got an email about 15 minutes ago saying they were going through the report and would get back to me.  I went through the logs myself and the error that kept coming up was about a non-existent USB device. Seems like a driver or software issue with link, not a hardware issue thankfully.

EDIT: I broke down and did a factory reset.  Still doesn't work so that pretty much confirms it's an issue with drivers/software on the PC.  Still waiting to hear from support.

The Oculus Virtual Audio Device works for me on my Quest with Link. It will also work with Rift S if one selects it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think I give that Oculus Diagnostics a shot then too after work and see if I recognize anything similiar in the logs and submit a ticket then to support as well.
