(Not Resolved) Known Issue - Quest PCVR streaming micro lags and stutter esp. when moving head

Hi team,

I'm getting micro lags and stutter in Airlink on my Quest 3 (EU/UK), esp. when moving my head. In the Oculus debug overlay this causes brief spikes in transmit/decode, fps drops and visible stuttering. The issue is not present on my Quest Pro with otherwise identical settings - see below screenshots to illustrate.

Few more details:
- Issue is not present on Quest Pro with same settings on HMD, router and PC (using same res)
- Issue is worse at higher bitrates, esp. >200mbps, but still present <200mbps
- Issue is unrelated to PC/game latencies (CPU, GPU, Queue each <5ms)
- Stutters/lags are intermittent (every 10-20 seconds) when not moving but happen immediately and reproducibly when moving the head to either side or especially looking downwards (i.e. on any bigger headset movements)
- Wifi 6E router (TP Link AXE75 EU/UK)
- EDIT: exact same issue with Asus RT-AXE7800 (EU/UK) wifi 6e router
- Connection shows as 2,400mbps
- Airlink codec H264 (but same on other codecs)
- I've attempted factory resetting, installing latest drivers
- Updated to v62 and latest Quest Link desktop version (I can see the 120hz option for my Q3)
- EDIT: Ordered a separate Quest 3 for testing: presents the exact same issue

-EDIT: Same issue on 5ghz 802.11ax 160mhz BUT switching to 802.11ac (!) completely fixed the issue. I cant test this on 6ghz but looks like 802.11ax or something related to how q3 implements it is the culprit

As the issue is worse the higher the bitrate and not present on Q Pro with otherwise same settings, I suspect it's related to the below known Wifi issues - but opening a new thread as instructed.

Best,
JensQ3QPro

Updates:
- Tried separate router: exact same issue with Asus RT-AXE7800 wifi 6e router
- Ordered a separate Quest 3: exact same issue on both routers

-Same issue on 5ghz 802.11ax 160mhz BUT switching to 802.11ac (!) completely fixed the issue. I cant test this on 6ghz but looks like 802.11ax or something related to how q3 implements it is the culprit

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for the information you've all provided.

If you have not already done so already, I would suggest reaching out to the support team via email so that they can gather a copy of your logs.

If you have already reached out to support and provided your logs, please PM MetaStoreHelp with your case number.

EDIT 8/5: Hey everyone! Just wanted to reach out and thank you all for your continued patience. If you're still having some issues, the best thing I can recommend at the time would be to submit a bug report. That way it can go straight to our engineers for them to further review everything provided. Thanks again!

I have a heavy feeling looming that I did a wrong decision here and I can not really have this kind of mismanagement. Sadly it is going to be a troublesome journey trying to return the quest 3 from where I am. But a more refined and better experience is surely out there somewhere. Or at least this is how my thoughts are culminating. Haven`t made a redecided yet but I don`t like that feeling.

With the default Airlink settings, everything works fine, no lags, stuttering or screen twitching.
200Mpts dynamic speed.
The picture is slightly worse than when you set a higher bitrate with H.264  in Oculus Debug Tools.

I'm not sure we should be using a support forum to tweak settings that have previously worked on another firmware version. I'm of the mind set that the default settings (without delving into other tools and debug software) should be enough to make it work as it has before. Feels like tweaking should be in another space, maybe Reddit.

Meanwhile, the default settings are not working for every eventuality and should be repaired and patched.

Totally agree with you Galatoni .
Discussions of workarounds seem to me to be diluting the key issue initially raised and leave me with less hope that Meta will actually address it (their response/acknowledgement so far has been far from deafening)

TheAntiSocializer - Can we get an update on this?  Been over 2 months and 2 patches since we've been able to use Airlink.

I'd like an update too please. I've had some success changing the bitrate manually using the debug tools, but that isn't a solution that a normal user should have to do on a commercial product.

So my friend bought a Quest 3 and day before yesterday I went to his place to help him set everything up.

The good news is everything went pretty smoothly, he got the brand new v64 update and it looks like the Wi-Fi 5 AC protocol works quite smoothly on PC. But the bad news is I got the PTC update v65 and it still don't work on the Wi-Fi 6 AX protocol and the sad part is I cant really change to AC only (ASUS RT-AX55). I can set it to mixed N/AC/AX but it never goes on the smoother networking protocol. And cable still gives me debris/water warning.

Finally, I was able to log in to the forum; even with such basic functions, the meta has problems. Now some observations:

The latest firmware did not completely eliminate the problem, but the problem can be almost completely solved by the following steps:
1) Switch the router to WiFi AC mode.
2) Select channel width 160 MHz.
3) Select the first free channel from all possible (ideally if you have the 36th channel free use it)
These are the main settings at the moment, with which I can play via airlink 90% of the time without lags. It is also worth setting sliced encoding in ODT to enabled and closing all programs that work with the screen overlay such as msi afterburner. Virtual Desktop currently does NOT work perfectly with any settings as it runs in single threaded mode. But airlink also sometimes has a problem with a white stripe appearing at the bottom of the screen in multi-threaded mode (sliced encoding - on)

I did finally manage to contact someone at meta and i have a cpu thats above minimum required specs but below recomended and air link is unusable for me. The support guy is trying to tell me its because my cou is too bad but if air link doesnt work with minimum specs at all then thats no minimum thats some bs. Im slowly stafting to think im talking with a chatbot again as iv never met someone so stupid and inconsistent. I will try to return my quest 3 now. I have already wasted too much time with this

What are your specs? CPU, GPU?

CPU: ryzen 3 3100

GPU: rtx 2060

and despite the number of my cpu being lower than that of the recomended it is infact faster if you look up some speed comparisons. The number is only lower since it doesnt have a build in gpu and its therefore another production series

Really hoping that the recent announcement by Meta to start selling the Quest software as Horizon OS gets the source code in front of developers within the companies that chose to adopt it. Maybe then we'll start getting fixes for issues instead of waiting months and going through numerous releases with little to no acknowledgement or feedback.

I for one am still waiting for a bug fix that's affected me across three separate Quest headsets (so likely account related). Meta don't even respond to my follow up questions on that support ticket anymore, it's like some things simply get brushed under the carpet.
