Oculus Rift controllers not working in-game after update

6/11/2024, allowed Meta Link to update on my PC for my Rift CV1.  Everything still works until I get into a game.  Once I enter the game, the Touch controllers are not detected when moving, and in the game they are at ground level and will not move.  The Oculus button still worked, and I could use the controllers to select quit app, but they will not move while in a game.  So far I re-installed Oculus, but did not delete all the hidden files.  I updated my Nvidea drivers to the latest 555.xx version.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I've been working with the engineering teams trying to get a solution for this issue. HOWEVER, I do want to let you know I've been passing as much information as I can to the them, as well as the workaround that was provided by @8aron. If your issue has been resolved with their method, I advise other users to try this as well. If you're worried about having to do it for every update, I confirmed with the teams, and they told me you can turn off automatic updates for your Rift device. All you need to do is follow the steps below:

  • Go to Settings > Developer > Allow Automatic Meta Quest Link Software Updates > Toggle Off.

After doing this and following the workaround, you shouldn't have to worry about your headset needing to be updated.

I've also been asking teams for an official solution from them regarding this issue. I'm not sure when they will be able to get back to me with additional progress updates. Since there is only so much information that I can relay from here on the forums to them. I strongly recommend continuing to submit bug reports and be as detailed as possible with the reports. Even if you think the information that you provide for them might not mean much, any detail that they're given can be of great help to them. I hope this information helps!

Same issue w/ Rift.  Controller works to select a game and can even quit a game by opening the menu.  Works in Steam VR as well.  By the instant any game is opened it no longer works (except to open the menu to quiz).

Tried remove controllers and re-pairing them.  Looks like update broke something. . .

Any solutions?

  • It seems to only happen in most Games / Apps but not all.  I tried Beat Saber, Walkabout MiniGolf, & Deo VR. When loaded the controllers do not work. But for some reason Thrill of the Fight works.  (AFAIK I did not update any of those games apps recently). None of those recognized the controllers inside the game.  However I can still use the controller to bring up the Occulus menu to quit those games/apps (via the menu button on right controller).  Steam VR works as well until I load game and then the controllers stop working.
  • No I don't use any accessories.
  • Yes PC meets minimum specs (intel i7, RTX 3070, etc).

Started right after the Meta Quest Link Software Update (4 days ago)

Thank you for providing us with an update, mutilated_puppy. We understand how this can disrupt an amazing VR experience, so we would like to take a closer look into this. Can you please try the following troubleshooting steps listed below?

  • Ensure your area is well lit, with enough light to see clearly but no direct sunlight.
  • Ensure your area is free of small lights, such as Christmas lights or LED strips.
  • Ensure your area is free of reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass, or polished marble.
  • Ensure the tracking cameras are clean. If they need to be cleaned, follow the maintenance and care guidelines.
  • Ensure your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for 30 seconds.
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one.
  • Unpair and pair the controller with the headset.
  • uninstall and reinstall the software on your PC for the same effect as a factory reset.

Please let us know how it goes. If you are still having issues with your controller, don't hesitate to reach out to us again so we can continue to look into other options we have available to get to the root of this issue. We can't wait to hear back from you soon!

This is happening to me as well.

With Meta Quest Link PC app version 65.0.499.343, Rift CV1 Touch Controllers are recognized properly in all tested games.

With Meta Quest Link PC app version 66.0.308.370, Rift CV1 Touch Controllers are not recognized in most Unity -based games where the UnityPlayer.dll version is higher than 2020. Examples include Beat Saber, Deo, Skybox VR, Whirligig, Angry Birds, Walkabout Mini Golf, Cubism, Golf+ and Brink.

Between the two versions, the single DLL that affects whether the controllers are detected is Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll. If the 65.0.499.343 version of that dll is applied to the 66.0.308.370 installation, the controllers are again recognized in the tested games.

Please investigate the changes made to that dll between the stated versions.

Processor AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor 3.40 GHz, Installed RAM 64.0 GB, GPU RTX 3070, Edition Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, OS build 22631.3737, Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1009.0

It has also Bricked Most UE5 games and builds I've tested, worked perfectly before the update. Now I have a brick that I've spent 2.5 years working on

Hi, I'm also using Oculus Rift and facing the same issue with controllers not working in some games after the Meta Link App update. I would like to try the solution proposed by nexusmtz. If possible, could you provide the setup for downgrading?

Thank you.

I would also like  to know.  I play minecraft in vr.  After the update the controllers dont work in game.  I tried with no success to fix it, thought i had broke something lol.  I eventually deleted everything and reinstalled both oculus software and my minecraft game.  Kinda pissed i lost a world i had 400 hours in.  But it is what it is.  I just want to know how to fix it.

I am experiencing the same issue.  The Oculus Rift controllers are not detected in Beat Saber and Pistol Whip so far.  Seems to work in most of the other games I've tested (Trover Saves the Universe, BoxVR, Duck Season, Accounting+).  Issue started since the most recent Meta update.

nexusmtz
As mentioned, I downgraded the problematic apps to the 2020 version and the touch controller was recognized. However, this is only a solution in limited situations.

Although I also had tried swapping the UnityPlayer.dll, it leaves you wondering what you might be breaking for the sake of getting the controllers back. It also didn't help determine what changed in the Oculus software. On the other hand, having lots of apps means having lots of versions to test with. Can't say that for the Meta dll.

After recent Meta Quest Link update, Onward has controllers laying on the ground. I would like to know how to reinstall the latest Meta Quest Link update. My firewall was very active during the update, have not seen this before.

Ok, I uninstalled everything, including users/XXXX/AppData/Local/Oculus, and LocalLow/Oculus, and Roaming/Oculus.  Started over from scratch.  Went through setup, synced controllers, tutorial, all worked good.  Installed Walkabout again.  Same issue.  Controller will not work in game, but works fine on Oculus menus/software.

Anybody know where we can get the LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll file that was mentioned earlier?

Ok, in my Downloads folder I had an old OculusSetup.exe from June 2023.  I ran that to start the install.  PC downloaded 2.13 gigs after I ran the old installer.  Went through setup again, tutorial, etc.  Now I have my controllers back in Walkabout.  I double checked that file mentioned earlier by another person, LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll.  I checked the version and it now begins with 65. instead of 66.  So, the other user is definitely onto something.  Hopefully Meta will investigate and fix it.

I come across this question a lot but none of them are answered or if they are the answer doesn't work for me.

As the title says, when I play Beat Saber there's zero vibrations, when I open the oculus dash and hover over the buttons there is vibration again. My pc has more than sufficient specs just in case anyone will ask.

Tried:

  • -vrmode oculus (put that both in steam library and in the meta library if that makes a difference)
  • Reinstalling the meta app and disconnecting and then pairing the devices, also leaving/joining the beta
  • Used a powered usb hub and tried other usb ports
  • Tried it on windows 10, I'm on 11, 10 didn't work either
  • Reinstalling the game
  • Updating chipset drivers and GPU drivers
  • Replacing batteries multiple times, even bought new ones just to be sure and no difference
  • Checking if vibration is enabled in game, it is

So as you can see I tried basically everything I could find about this problem and no luck... I'm really determined to make this work so I hope there's someone with a solution that works for me! And I will share it with others that face this issue if there's something that turns out to work for me as there are many more people in the same boat as me sadly...

THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION - MARKING ONLY FOR VISIBILITY PURPOSES

Hey everyone! Since it looks like a lot of users are having this issue with their Rift Controllers not working after an update, I would be more than happy to bring this up with the engineering teams so they can investigate it. I will need some information to relay to them so it can help look into this.

  • Are you using a Rift CV1 or Rift S?
  • Can you share the full OS build of the PC app?
  • Are you using the same controllers that came with the headset?
  • Can you please provide the basic specs of your PC? (Please no logs as we have no way to extract them through the community forums)

Please share this info whenever you can!

Ok, up and running again using the 6/2023 installer I found in my Downloads folder on my HD.  I turned off auto updates, so hopefully the Oculus software will not update on it's own.  I see that it downloaded the update.  As long as it doesn't run it, I may be in good shape until Meta fixes this latest update.
