Oculus Rift controllers not working in-game after update

6/11/2024, allowed Meta Link to update on my PC for my Rift CV1.  Everything still works until I get into a game.  Once I enter the game, the Touch controllers are not detected when moving, and in the game they are at ground level and will not move.  The Oculus button still worked, and I could use the controllers to select quit app, but they will not move while in a game.  So far I re-installed Oculus, but did not delete all the hidden files.  I updated my Nvidea drivers to the latest 555.xx version.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I've been working with the engineering teams trying to get a solution for this issue. HOWEVER, I do want to let you know I've been passing as much information as I can to the them, as well as the workaround that was provided by @8aron. If your issue has been resolved with their method, I advise other users to try this as well. If you're worried about having to do it for every update, I confirmed with the teams, and they told me you can turn off automatic updates for your Rift device. All you need to do is follow the steps below:

  • Go to Settings > Developer > Allow Automatic Meta Quest Link Software Updates > Toggle Off.

After doing this and following the workaround, you shouldn't have to worry about your headset needing to be updated.

I've also been asking teams for an official solution from them regarding this issue. I'm not sure when they will be able to get back to me with additional progress updates. Since there is only so much information that I can relay from here on the forums to them. I strongly recommend continuing to submit bug reports and be as detailed as possible with the reports. Even if you think the information that you provide for them might not mean much, any detail that they're given can be of great help to them. I hope this information helps!

It's major ridiculous, Steam vr works well, but unfortunately when the games needs to work through Oculus the controllers doesn't work for jack!! It's very annoying to have the 4 games I want to play on steam, force me to connect through Oculus. And yet the controller is broken to hell.

Figured I would be best off opening my own thread for this. I added it as a comment on someone else's similar issue. but thought it wise to post it separately here too.

I have two machines I use for VR and am using an Oculus Rift S.

I noticed my main machine suddenly lost controller haptics for Beat Saber last week and have been trying all the usual fixes; Changing USB port, reinstalling Beat Saber, -vrmode oculus launch option, replacing batteries, changing Beat Saber version, etc. Nothing helped.

The controller haptics work fine on all other games I have tried - it is only Beat Saber I have found so far that there's just nothing there for.

In the end I tested it was still functioning on my secondary PC and it was indeed fine, so I relocated it and played for over an hour with no issue whatsoever.

I then went to play the game just a few hours later (PC had not even been turned off) and was blocked from playing because the Oculus/Meta software needed to update first. It did that, and now that PC is the same too! No haptics in Beat Saber!

So it seems there's definitely an issue with the latest version of the software (v66) causing this issue. Is there any way to roll back the 'Meta Quest Link' software to a previous version?

The game is currently unplayable without the feedback as far as I am concerned.

If the issue isn't fixed and there's no way to downgrade to a previous version of the software, the headset becomes pretty useless to me, as this game is my primary - if not only - reason for having VR.

This issue needs to be fixed ASAP.

Look forward to hearing from you - happy to help with any diagnostics you need from me.

Thank you,

Samantha

There's a post several pages back that outlines a fix - essentially a rollback of the most recent Meta update.

The fix

1.  download a previous version of the Oculus software.

2,  Stop the Oculus sever (because files that are in use cannot be overwritten).

3. Copy the previous working version into the appropriate directory - windows admin privieldge may be required.

It's affecting more than just beat saber. I'm a VR dev and its affecting my unity game in the editor.

Guys - Spam their twitter support

I direct messaged them, this needs escalating and is a very bad look  for Meta. nearly 8000 views on this thread, clearly us rift users are a low priority

I have just started to have this issue too. I'm a developer, with several titles in the store, app lab etc. One of my own games (Arthur Owl's Word Block) exhibits this problem, whereas it has always worked fine in the past. This is only with my Rift CV1. If I plug my Quest 3 in via Link it seems to work. I've tried rolling back the build to the first version, still doesn't work.

My other three games (Bending the Light, The Eastern Edge and Hanna in a Choppa 3) still seem to detect and track the controllers just fine.

Unity (2022.3.11f1) has the same problem when editing Arthur Owl's Word Block. There are no error messages. The controllers simply aren't tracked/reported as present. This has halted development work for a Steam port of the game.

Unity (2020.2.1f1) does not have the same problem when editing Hanna in a Choppa 3.

The same problem affects both the OVRPlugin version of Arthur Owl's Word Block, and the mostly finished OpenXR port for Steam. Both worked until the latest update of the Meta Link App.

I've just discovered I have the same problem in Beat Saber too. Only with my Rift CV1, not with my Quest 3.

I hope this all gets fixed soon. It's holding up projects, and stopping me from exercising!

Ok, I tried posting on reddit, and I tried linking the two files that I used to fix this issue until Meta fixes it correctly.  The one file is the one Nexusmtz identified.  The other is the 32 bit version or something like that.  Instructions are there on reddit.  I hope I did this right!

Yes, thanks for temporarily fixing the problem, but otherwise it's sad that Meta isn't very willing to release an official patch, and people in the community are solving it for them. Then I ask what do you get paid for there?

Well, to be fair... the issue occured over the weekend and the larger a company the slower their turnaround time.

Not to forget that they don't officially support CV1 anymore. (be extra careful with your cable, cause you wont easily get a replacement).

That being said I'm pretty sure that they will fix it to avoid the negative backlash but I don't expect it to happen very soon. They'll first have to identify the issue and also make sure that whatever they're fixing doesn't affect any of their other products.

So yeah... slow turnaround.

I'm having the exact same issues with the Rift CV1, except that the problem is with Beat Saber, Acorns: Attack of the Squirrels, Gravity Sketch Up VR, and a few other titles.

The controllers work on most apps and with home, just not with the apps I want to play. I tried looking for other people with this people but I'm only able to find reports of this issue with the Rift CV1. I wish they'd stop forcing updates on perfectly working gear.

Recent Oculus VR bug fix : r/dcsworld (reddit.com) this fixed it for me. click search on the start bar and type services.  right click on oculus runtime and stop the service. Then download the files following the links and apply them following the instructions. then repeat the runtime services step but turn the process on. if the service isnt turned off before you do this, some files wont transfer which wont fix the issue.
Hope this helps someone. Meta sucks.. we all know why they do this.. if they can supply optional external sensors i might actually upgrade. until then, ill keep my money. i buy a quest when it comes out, regret my decision and lose money when i sell it.
inside out sucks if u use accessories like a gunstock.
