Quest 1 stuck on previous owner's account, his Devices page blocked by greyed - out Facebook button
I bought an Oculus Quest 1 from a friend. It's factory reset but I can't set it up, it's still linked to his Meta account, and neither of us can get it removed.
Device: Oculus Quest 1, model MH-B
Serial and account details available on request via DM.
What happens:
- Setup pairs, auto-detects the code, spins, then fails with "Couldn't pair with your headset". Tried iOS and Android, auto-detect and manual code entry, and an older Horizon app version.
- During setup on the older Android app, it indicated the headset is still associated with an account.
- The pairing code only shows in the headset for a split second.
Why he can't remove it himself:
- auth.meta.com shows "You must confirm your account to continue" with a "Continue with Facebook" button that is greyed out and unclickable. Not unresponsive β disabled.
- He's tried multiple browsers, private windows, cleared cookies, disabled extensions, and logging into Facebook first in the same browser. Still disabled.
- On my account the exact same page loads with the button active, so this is specific to his account.
- secure.oculus.com > Devices redirects to that same broken verification page.
Why we can't reach support:
- The support form rejects the serial with "No product found" β I'm entering it from my own account, since the device sits on his.
- "I don't own a device" routes to the Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp help centres, which loop back.
He has agreed to the sale and is available to confirm anything needed.
Two questions:
1. Can a moderator escalate this so the device can be removed from his account?
2. Is a Quest 1 still activatable by a new owner at all, given support ended August 2024? If the answer is no, I'd rather know now, a clear no is a useful answer.
