Quest 2, 3 & Pro - Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,
I have a Quest 3 and cannot connect the the wifi (it's a freebox, french internet provider).

Steps i took to troubleshoot :

  • I did manage to connect the quest to my cellphone via hotspot.
  • I factory reseted the quest and retried to connect to the freebox via passwords and QR code.
  • I trued to connect the quest via the phone app.
  • Rooter was rebooted, i was in the same room etc.
  • We have all other devices connecting without problem to this rooter.

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late to the party for announcing this, but the PTC for V67 just started rolling out not too long ago. It sounds really promising that some of you are already reporting improvements after updating! For anyone else participating in the latest V67 PTC build, please feel free to continue providing your feedback and experiences—along with your full build numbers, so that I can continue funneling these reports to the team. I don't have confirmation on whether or not a fix was supposed to roll out for this PTC build, but I'm working on finding out anything more I can share from the team. Thanks for continuing to keep me updated with your feedback!

Update:

Hey everyone, its looking like some people are seeing their issue resolved by updating to the latest PTC. If you're interested in testing out the new PTC release, you can find more information for how to opt in here. Please keep in mind that the PTC is a test build for unreleased Quest software builds, so while your Wi-Fi connectivity may have improvements, it's possible that other features of the software could be unstable. If you prefer to stay on stable public builds, I recommend holding out for the live V67 release, which should hopefully be coming out sometime soon!

To be honest I am quite disappointed myself. Bought a Quest 3 which I want to use to primarly playing Multiplayer games and/or playing using Wireless protocol and I get an inconsistent Wi-Fi on 5GHZ network. The network is placed less than 2 meters than where I play and it's on a low-density channel. The router is a FritzBox 5530.

I hope update v67 will solve this issue, because v66 hasn't.

Hopping that v67 solve the issue 😞

June 18, 2024

So I don't really know what the issue is, last night I went for 2 hours without Disconnecting, then all of a sudden it kept doing it every 10 minutes again. I am wondering if it may have something to do with the fact that I can't change my channel since I am on the freebox.

Hey everyone! Just popping back in to let you know the team is still working on getting a resolution rolled out as soon as they can. As I mentioned previously, it should hopefully roll out in one of the upcoming updates. I don't have any information on when V67 will be rolling out, but if I happen to find out more, I'll be sure to let you all know! As always, thank you again for your extended patience!

Hello, thanks for your message! When can we expect an upcoming update? Is it weeks or months?

Usually new firmware is released every month or so, however the rollout for V66 was botched for different reasons as reported here and we're almost 3 weeks into the V66 cycle.

I'm guessing V66 was already in development by the time this issue was reported and I think V67 should be delayed a month and existing issues worked out for a mid-release patch rather than add any new features.

Best guess is V67 will announced I'm about 2 weeks, with V68 in 6-7 weeks; with each having a rollout delay of a week or two.

Basically, if they're not sorting it out in V67 then we're looking at almost 2 months before V68 is being rolled out

This is purely speculative of course, but hopefully Meta are taking the issue seriously and working on a mid-release patch, (such as a V66.5).

Got a Q3 a few weeks ago and been having WiFi disconnects every 30-60 minutes, 5GHz. Hope this gets patched soon

Same for me, bought mine at 6/18/2024 and for start times it disconnects every few minutes, after playing 30min and longer (at the same position) it is getting better played than about 1h and no break off again?..... so what is this?

As for me, I've managed to solve the puzzle. and found a solution.

As I mentioned here in a message back in May, there's been an ongoing discussion since October 2023 in another thread regarding AXe75 router users experiencing inconsistent speeds.
Starting from firmware versions v62 to v64, these issues have been gradually resolved for most people it seemed. Interestingly, there's even a YouTuber who has posted videos addressing these problems.

However, with the release of v64, a new issue emerged exactly as described in this thread: frequent disconnections for other users with different routers/setups.

So i took an unconventional step and invested in the AXe75 router.
Setting up a Wifi6e just for the Quest3 – AND:  I haven't experienced any connection drops for two weeks now. Not a single one!
Thanks to Wifi6e, my connection is not only stable but also faster with better latency.

But that's not all because The problem with the intial router setup is that it operates on two different subnets. This means my Quest can't connect to my PC through Virtual Desktop or SteamLink if the PC is connected to my regular internet router.

So after a few days I thought about switching the AXE75 to access point mode, but then suddenly Quest could only find the 5GHz/2.4GHz network, not the Wifi6 network anymore.

This shows another issue with Wifi 6 that I've seen discussed on Reddit and in other threads where people have mentioned these Wifi6 problems.

Switching back the axe75 to router mode fixed the issue instantly!
Well the PC needs to be connected through the AXe75 LAN for PCVR.
Despite this, everything works correctly,

All in all its a bit of an overkill to buy a second router just for VR... but it works and that what matters.
Just to be safe: I disabled firmware updates on the Quest 3 to stay happy 🙂

I have the XE75 Deco, the small round version of the TP Link router, setup as a dedicated access point. My 6ghz wifi is still unstable.  I did manage to play on it last week, after the latest v66 firmware update, for about a half hour before the drops started up again and killed my game. That was the longest it had gone since v64, but apparently is still not fixed. However the 5ghz channel has been working fine this entire time. I have played over 5 hours one night on VRChat with no disconnects.

So far it seems comments here have been mainly TP Link routers and the Fritz Box router, not sure if there are others.  I don't think I've seen anyone say they're on an ASUS or Netgear router. I almost feel like telling people who are stuck without working wifi to try a different router. Maybe get a PrismXR Puppis for an air bridge to your computer.  It would be good to know if any others are verified working and stable.  I can at least say the Deco XE75 does work fine on 5ghz band, connected at 1200mbps.

Did you try 5ghz on access point mode like mine?  You just mentioned that 6ghz wasn't visible, but you didn't say if you tried 5ghz.

Also 5ghz is still wifi6, the 6ghz band is the "extended" channel width, adding more channels than wifi6 uses, that makes it a "wifi6e" router. It's those extra channels that let you connect at 2400mpbs, basically double the speed you get on 5ghz.  However 1200mbps wifi6 on 5ghz band (160mhz channel width setting), is plenty fast enough for max resolution and online gaming as long as you are near the router and have a good connection.

Installed v67 on my Quest 3 today and it appears to have finally resolved the 6GHz connectivity issue for me!

I'm assuming that's PTC rather than Stable release?

Yes, I have PTC enabled, so I would assume that's the case.

Dear Meta,

can we get an actual changelog of what V67 PTC is bringing until today? Where are these feedbacks where people say it is fixed for them prior to the message you sent? Also, why marking the message as solution when clearly is not yet to be considered one?

fresh install of V67 from PTC. I got several wlan breakups directly after install.

Did you do a real restart after the patch by clicking "Restart" instead of Powering off and on? Otherwise can you try and see if it helps?

We in Europe are not allowed to access the PTC sadly.

Powering off and a restart are two and the same; the only difference is a restart saves you having to manually power it up again.
