Quest 2 stuck on pairing code after factory reset

Hi everyone,

I bought a Quest 2 secondhand, but it’s stuck on the pairing code screen. I’ve tried factory resetting multiple times, and even though it connects to the Meta app, it won’t go past the code entry. The app says another user is still connected and needs to disconnect first.

The seller told me they did a factory reset on their side and that their account is no longer linked, but my headset is still locked.

Here are the details:

  • Device: Oculus / Meta Quest 2

I just need to know what steps are left to get it usable on my own Meta account, or if support can help clear the old account from this device.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi sage.bond.2000 πŸ™‚

Normally, a factory reset is all what you need to do, to set up the Quest with another account.

Maybe ask the seller, if they still can see the Quest with their account on this page - actually, I don't believe it, but who knowsπŸ˜…

If it still appears there, they should delete it from there and you can try again to pair the Quest with your account.

Otherwise contact support, so they can look what's wrong with that device.

    Get support | Meta Store

And please. edit your post and delete the serial number. Don't share info like that on a public forum.πŸ˜‰

They did delete it. I met up with them yesterday and did everything meta told me I could do. I formatted the headset. Had him try to connect to it. I tried to connect to it. Still locked. He deleted it. Meta said they couldn’t undo the link from there end. Offer me a headset if I send this one for 160$ . I also bought a used headset that was formatted by the owner and I login into my meta account on the spot. It cost me 85$ headset and controllers. But I have this other headset that’s just locked πŸ”’ And worked. And I followed the instructions. Are these location locked. So if the seller tries to sell at a McDonalds it’ll brick 🧱?????

I don't know what else you can doπŸ™

You did everthing what's needed to set up the Quest with your account.

I have no idea, why it's still connected to another account although the seller deleted it.

    I can't help......Sorry!!

I have this same issue. Did you ever get it resolved?

I am having the same issue.

I am on a android device and android can see the quest 2 headset in the Bluetooth settings and it can pair but can't connect. The app can't even pair with all permissions enabled. It even has the scratchy precise location permission enabled and It doesn't even try.

This should never have been a problem in the first place.

I think the app is the worst thing I have seen for stability and functionality. I can't even trust the security of the app when it can't do that It is designed to do.

    Stop in**bleep**fying vr meta.

Any console providers provide a profile for there users. I guess meta can't do that without a excessive amount of data on the person.

P.s. never factory reset a vr headset. You will lose controller connection with the original controllers if you have gotten any new controllers and connected them to the headset. If you never connected new controllers it might be safe but I wouldn't risk it if I knew that.

Don't pair your Quest to your phone. The device just needs to recognise that your Quest is there and the set up will be made automatically. You won't even see the headset on your connected devices on your phone after it connects.

You must be new to this and don't understand how to set it up. If you pair your headset to the phone first, it prevents the setup process continuing.

Also, as you seem to have just joined the forum, be aware that this is a user only forum dedicated to troubleshooting Quest VR headset issues, there are no Meta staff here, no Meta moderators, no Meta community managers, just unpaid volunteers trying to help people. So no point in cursing at Meta here, as they're not here to see it.

If you have a particular issue with your headset we will try to help, if you want to rant and complain contact Meta support directly to do that.
