Meta really need to fix this, 2.7 is no longer in PTC, controllers are still going to sleep and not waking up unless batteries pulled out and reinserted or headset is rebooted, which is to put it mildly....frustrating.

Also, completely random as to which controller or amount of time that they go to sleep.

This makes no difference, and with yesterdays update it's still happening, with your circled "solution" which is already enabled and every combination possible, also no matter how many times you post there's no point asking here:

"For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong."

Meta absolutely do look at the forums and also reply with updates on bugs & feedback at times.

In my case, I'm experiencing a tricky issue where even removing the battery doesn't fix it.

I've found a temporary workaround, so I wanted to share it with you.

When it disconnects, you can get it working again by going to "Controllers" under the "Devices" section in Settings and selecting "Pair". Please manage to navigate to that page using either the other working controller or hand tracking. Alternatively, I've confirmed that unpairing and re-pairing the affected controller via the Meta Horizon mobile app also brings it back.

As a side note, turning off "Switch between controllers and hands" in Gesture Controls can extend the time before it disconnects. Re-pairing whenever it gets disconnected—this combination should help take the edge off the frustration.

i have the same problem, when the controllers fall asleep (for example while using virtual desktop with a gamepad), i get a disconnect android toast and controllers are not responsive anymore.

i have to remove the battery and/or set the controller(s) in pairing mode to get it working again. ... i am now on 2.7 ptc.

reported it in the 2.6.ptc and in-quest bug report some time ago ... yea, really sad ... it is one of the most annoying bugs if you use your gamepad in combination with the hmd.... and still did not get adressed...

No point in reporting it here. There are no Meta staff here. Report it through the bug reporting tool on your headset.

Is that why we have

This sounds like it may be related to the update rather than the batteries themselves, especially if both controllers started doing it after v2.7. I’d try unpairing and pairing the controllers again through the Meta Horizon app first. If that doesn’t help, removing the batteries for a few minutes and replacing them with fresh ones might be worth trying. If the issue keeps returning every time the controllers sleep, I’d report it to Meta as well since it could be a firmware bug.
