Question

Random disconnecting after Meta Quest 3 v76 update (April 2025)

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if anyone has been encountering issues after the last April update, around 24th April to be exact. I mainly use the headset with wired link to play VR sim racing. Before this update, I had absolutely no issue, shortly after the install, the VR connection is lost after about 15-30, after an intense session.

Is there any fix for this? I saw that there is no way to roll back the driver... which is quite a shame. I was so excited after I bought it and set it up, only to have it crash now every half an hour.

Personally everything went back to normal (online) after doing this:

    -disconnected USB

    -hard reset quest 3

    -restarted computer to safe mode

    -uninstalled  Meta Quest Link

-deleted everything related to meta, oculus / link in :

    C:\Program Files

    C:\Users\User Profile\AppData

    C:\Users\User Profile\AppData\Local

    C:\Users\User Profile\AppData\LocalLow

    C:\Users\User Profile\AppData\Roaming

    -restarted computer in normal mode

-went trough all the initial setup and pairing with phone's app

-reinstalled Meta Quest Link on computer.

-made sure that inside C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime

    • OVRServer_x64

I did exactly what you wrote. Link crashed within the first 5 minutes after all was done.

Another 30 minutes wasted on this stupid rollout from META. Im getting so frustrated that an expensive product is basicly bricked for an unforseeable future....

Looks like same problem but different potential workaround. I got it working now, not exactly sure how, I connected to the front usb-c port and it's seems to be stable since. Was playing around 1 - 1,5 hour and no crash. (Tested the port itself, no issue with other devices, and the cable test runs on this correctly around 3.1 Gbs) I was able to play similarly using a USB-C to A adapter, but unfortunately that was not charging the device itself. While I'm using the original link cable, I'm might gonna have something like was linked above, where you can plug external power source to the USB-A connector.

Also the Link app is prompting me for update, and you can only postpone for 4 hours.

Having exactly the same issue on v76. I’m reverting to VD for now but I hope dev are aware of this issue.

Quick update after a lot of testing post–v76 update (Meta Quest 3, PCVR with official Link cable):

    Original issue:

Random USB disconnects after 30–40 minutes, even while idle or watching YouTube. Pre-v76, everything was rock solid.

What I changed to improve stability:

    • Switched from USB-C to powered USB-A (blue port)
Connecting through a powered USB-A hub helped reduce disconnects noticeably. USB-C gave fast and consistent failures. USB-A is far more stable.
    • Physical cable routing adjusted
I made sure the Link cable wasn’t tangled, under stress, or running near other high-load connections. Cleaner path, less noise.
    • USB test results improved
I consistently get 2.2 Gbps via the USB-A route now. Not ideal, but stable enough.

    Current status:

Haven’t had disconnects in the last few sessions, but I’m not calling it solved yet. The system is definitely more stable — but it still doesn’t feel fully reliable.

Meta, v76 clearly changed something in the USB stack. Still waiting on a proper fix.

    Hi there TudorStefan26,

Thank you for sharing about the situation of the connectivity issues with Meta Quest Link that you've been facing primarily after the update. We understand that sudden disconnects could be quite frustrating and impact your overall Metaverse experience therefore we'd like to let you know that in case the issue still persists or the situation with the disconnect worsens, feel free to send us a PM allowing us to gather more details around this and look further.

This is a widespread issue. Don’t you guys test the software before rolling out the update?

I just switch to a usb-c to usb-a cable and no crashes after 3 hours play time.

Yes v76 update is bugged. Temporary solution is to use a usb-c to usb-a cable.

I formatted my computer entirely today for other reasons. Installed a fresh Meta Quest Link and tried - crashed directly when connected.

What more evidence do you guys need? Put your devs to work on this and give us a time estimate!

I have a ASUS ROG STRIX B760-F GAMING WIFI and use the USB-C port on the back btw.

Connect it to an USB-A port using a different cable or converter. It has work for me so far.
