(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

I'm having that warning but my screen goes black.

The first time I had it I saw the message. That was back at the start of January.

I've done some searching and it could be the cable moving slightly. A possible solution could be getting a velcro strap to strap the cable to the side of the headset to secure it better. I'll be trying this when I get home today.

We all need to go to meta's official pages on social medias and post that the oculus has this bug so no one buys it and they fix it. If we stay here talking with each other the bug will remain. They wont care if we dont complain where it hurts.

While i agree that we can raise awareness of our situation and help the community, please also hold the line between raising awareness and harassing. I trust that most of us know where the line is so we will not be the ones ruining the community instead of Meta themselves.

I have an update. I have attached some velcro straps to hold the cable in place. I think the problem before I did this was the cable was curving upwards and whichever other way, putting strain on the charging slot. So just secure your cable to the side in a similar way to how I have. Making sure there is no tension on it. So far its working!

Notice in the first pic the cable is curving downwards with very little to no tension on it. On the second pic there is tension because its curving upwards. The whole time since I got my BOBOVR M3 Mini Head Strap I didn't have any velcro straps attaching the cable. Now I do.

edit:

Well I definitely know its not my cable. It just happened again 4 times while I was watching a 3D movie. Come on meta fix this. Why are you taking so long?

Meta quest support tells me to reinstall my games, restart the headset, and reset it to factory settings! Then mark my case as resolved and closed the ticket. After I request a refund / replacement. TheLegend27 it's very disrespectful to waste our time like this

Hola Javier,

Sergio R.

I've asked for a replacement because a new headset should have v60 instead of v62 firmware. This email says "no replacement for software issues like this". This is illegal in the EU - the product doesn't work as advertised. I am also asking about a refund since Amazon instructed me to contact Meta about it. No answer.

But won't a new headset update soon as you login?

well you're right, i don't fricking know. I'm out of alternatives. I just need to focus on practice and instead I'm here begging for my 600 euro headset to not be disabled by an idiotic unnecessary error message.

If the issue is not resolved by the end of the week I'm going to return it for a refund. I'm sick of corporations pretending to help but they actually don't.

This is so ridiculous. META is valued 1.2T$ company, three weeks passed and they hasn`t done anything to fix their unusable product. This is wasting everyone`s time / money.

Where is hotfix? Good headset what you cant use because of false error pop-ups...

I got this error-pop up three times during last sim-race, so this headset cannot be used anywhere where you need reliability.

Hi,

I had same issue while a simracing run.

I had usb-c to usb-c connected to the gpu port (the only one that have enough power to let the vr powered to 80% for more then 4 hours).

After v62 I had 4 5 times the issue, tried to connect to motherboard port and never had any issue... The only thing is that after a 3 4 hours of run battery reach 45%, so before to start another run for next day I have to connect id with charger. So in my opinio the probel is with amount of power vr is reaching. Try to uuse different usb port (with less powerR.

Let me know

You're probably right. 'Cause it's much worse when using a usb 3.2 instead of 3.0 cable.

I had this warning occur after the headset had been left sitting UNTOUCHED FOR SEVERAL DAYS. Very overzealous, very ridiculous. Even more ridiculous that I have to reboot the headset EVERY TIME this happens. Not only does the iPhone NOT require me reboot to re-enable charging (plus its liquid detection system also WORKS), but there is also the option to override it.

At this stage, being able to override the warning would be the best solution imo, given the high rate of false-positives.

Well, two updates today. One for the MO3 and another for Meta Link for the PC. 75 minutes in iRacing and no issues. 🧐

End of my report.
