(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Oh my God! What a fiasco 😞

Received the Quest3 from Amazon yesterday,,,,,despite the finnicky set up procedure (I'm not a mobile phone person)....was pretty amazed at the headset (coming from a HP Reverb G1.....Microsoft have deprecated WMR so now imminently dead)

Just started getting into tweaking some settings for Elite Dangerous and BOOM! The dreaded 'liquid/debris in charging port' message popped up in the headset!!!

Will NOT charge (yes, I followed the connection procedure religiously) with this cable...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B2QPSWSF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

....and more importantly WILL NOT link to my PC no matter which of the four USB 3 ports I try 😞

So ordered a replacement cable (in desperation)......

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BRQHN5MY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

....I NEED that tehered link to my PC.

Is my headset bricked do you think? Or is it the cable?? Or is this going to be fixed via an update???

A very sad state of affairs judging by the lack of progress reported here 😞 😞

Regards All

Tom

Same issue when using a (3rd party) link cable to play & charge and on latest V62 firmware.

No issue when using a BoboVR battery headstrap though.

USB port looks fine and I can OK the message and carry on but it sometimes comes back later.

Update - Shut down the PC last night (correction, daft o'clock this morning trying to get this bloody thing to work!)

Came back to it just now....plugged charging cable/data in correct order....VOILA! connected with fully charged green light on the headset πŸ™‚ Ran USB test in Oculus PC app.....2.6GB all good!

Less than five minutes later 'ping pong' debris/liquid in port message......connection now lost again 😞

Should I just start an Amazon return?

Advice needed please.

Where do I report this problem? (I'm not familiar with Meta)

Tried the chat in 'support' (even though none of the 'problem options' are relevant) and it just sat there until it reported 'something went wrong' GREAT! 😞

Is there an official link to register this issue that effectively stops this Β£479.00 waste of money from actually working?

email and whatsapp support have been absolutely atrocious, telling me to reinstall my games, to factory reset my headset, just time wasting absolute nonsense. sadly the only thing apparently making leeway is posting here. I haven't even been able to get a refund which I'm pretty sure is illegal in the EU.

Thanks javiermares. Emailed support, linked this thread......not holding my breath for a resolution!

I would recommend taking 20-30 mins and start reading at the beginning of this thread. All your questions will be answered.

Got in touch with support through chat, chatted for a while and did factory reset, and after setting up again that is the first message I got was debris or water detected and USB c port disabled and quest 3 was not even connected to a power supply, I believe it's system level error message that a user reset won't remove, anyhow they have offered me rma to return it and gave me a label to ship it to them, it's 1 to 2 week turn around time by the time they diagnose the issue and send me a replacement to my doorstep.

Thinking of doing the same....luckily got it through Amazon and they've always been very good on returns.

OR.....hold on to it until a fix is issued (prays)....but if it's close to my returns window (1st of April....apt!) then it's going back for certain.

Shame 😞

Lemonhead401....I have read it all, unfortunately it was in the wee small hours of this morning and it's a bit vague now (500+ posts. I can't remember if anyone had the exact same issue as me (although it's all essentially the same error) in so far as not only losing charging ability but also the link to PC is totally dead, on ALL ports 😞

You have to first click ok on the error message for it reset the USB c port and then power off not restart headset and it has worked for me this way.

javier.....why aren't they replacing yours without quibble? Was it the Meta Store you purchased it from?

Not an expert but that sounds highly dubious!

they said that they needed to go through these troubleshooting steps with me (reinstalling games, and other useless nonsense) and that they won't do a refund for a software issue. I've contacted an EU European Consumer Centers Network office to ask about this but i'm sure it doesn't matter if it's firmware, if it does't work as advertised they are compelled by law to refund.
PS. it was bought on amazon but amazon told me to go to Meta for refund / replacement (when i was trying to get it replaced expecting the replacement to have v60)

Does this mean you were outside of your returns window? (usually 30 days)

A genius on Reddit told me that it can't be a firmware issue, that it's our fault for using **bleep**ty cables! πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/1b3x62c/comment/kt5mtry/

and that when Meta says they are working on a fix, the fix could be "use an official cable" (which btw doesn't keep charge during use)
Basically mocking us for complaining that the update broke PCVR for us:
https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/1b3x62c/comment/ksxfjtx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

also said that maybe we're getting this error because a third party cable may have damaged our USB ports https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/1b3x62c/comment/kt5g30u/

this is all completely delusional but i have experienced this level of deranged toxic fanboy in other brands , which make getting support an absolute nightmare. i have been driven away from Fanatec to other brands because of this. I hope this isn't the situation with Meta

Please give the post some love (upvotes and comments) to raise awareness, these big companies only respond to posts blowing up on social media. I know they said they're working on it but it's been a month so I'm going to remain skeptical.

Thanks

It’s a problem even on the official usb c cable. If you connect it to a high speed usb c 3.2 port the water warning will continuously pop up.

thanks for sharing this! i posted an example of someone reporting the issue (OP!) with the original link cable but he decided that no, the guy reporting this was talking about the charging cable. Completely unencumbered by reality

News! Bad news. While I have been able to use the Meta Quest 3 without the beloved message. This still appears randomly.

Over and out.

thanks for sharing, i'm sorry to hear this. this has also been my experience. i thought i reduced the frequency of the warning by changing from the USB 3.2 gen 2v2 to the gen 2, but it still appears randomly, if not at 1 hour mark, at the 30 minutes mark, and then at the 1 hour 20 minutes, just goes randomly.
