(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

is that these people don't understand that the error started with a software update?, also it is not difficult to put the option to disable an alert and that one is responsible, come on I have a 1200 dollar product decorating the table?¡??¡😐

Wow that's 3 weeks now with no solution. I returned my previous unit on the 2nd week of February. Now I'm concerned my new unit will arrive with v62 pre-installed, or auto-update to it.

Turn auto updates off in the app. When I exchanged mine after v62 ruined the first one, the replacement one from best buy came with v60. It downloaded a small update, but not v62.

you need WiFi to set it up, but then you can disable the WiFi and use pcvr only. If you leave it on WiFi with v60 and auto updates off, it will still try to push v62 soon. Mine said march 14, so I’m leaving it disconnected from the WiFi and just using it to sim race until they pull their heads out of their behind and start acting like an intelligent tech company.

But I need wifi connected so I can connect to Steam.

But I've disabled updates and its network access.

Ok it happened again tonight. Three times. I pressed power button once and it went to a slightly lighter black screen as it has been doing when this error pops up. But for me I don't get the message. I just get a really dark black screen. The second and third time I pressed and held the power button for about 1.5-2 seconds. I got back in. On the third time it didn't come up again. I was able to play for just under an hour. I turned it off though because its bed time now.

I have a Quest 3 and a Pico 4. I have never seen these false messages while using Pico 4 and PC-VR, but Meta is becoming a joke with all these pop-up false messages. Apart from getting this pop-up false message, I've recently just purchased the Quest pro controllers to get full tracking because I find I have tracking glitches using Quest 3 controllers, but surprise surprise after around 10 mins of using the Quest pro controllers you can get false pop-up messages saying the Quest pro controllers are overheating. They are not overheating btw, it was a firmware issue that caused this issue to start over a year ago now.

When I looked into the Quest pro controller problems, I found a thread that is over a year old and the problem with the Quest pro controller "false overheat message" is still not fixed. Yes, you heard me correctly £300 controllers and still not fixed. Thankfully, I have my Pico 4 for PC-VR and it's only going to get better soon for PC-VR with Pico connect coming in the next patch. I just wish Pico was making a Pico 5 because I would have purchased that instead of Quest 3. How can Meta get away with bricking a feature with firmware and doing nothing about it? Good luck with a fix is all I'll say. You might be waiting a long time, if the quest pro controller pop-up false message is anything to go by.

this doesn't bode well. Some companies only respond to social media posts blowing up and to sales dwindling.

"this doesn't bode well. Some companies only respond to social media posts blowing up and to sales dwindling."

This is what we need to do. Spread it all over social media to make their stock tank.

I've just received the replacement charge/data cable from Amazon this morning and I'm reluctant to replace the existing cable because I'm pretty sure I'm going to be diappointed quite soon after 😞

I'll let ya'll know the outcome.

I think I've figured out what they're doing. If you have issues with the device they'll get you to send it back to them so they can send you a new one. When it arrives the same issue will happen not long after. Then they'll ask you to send that back and they keep repeating the process until the warranty runs out. After that they have no obligation to help you. What a bunch of miscreants.

i wouldn't conspire, but what we do know they haven't done is fix a PCVR breaking bug in an entire month, a bug that needn't have been pushed to production, having been reported in PTC. imagine if this happened on an iphone. you can't, because apple wouldn't do this

Well bugger me sideways!......it seems to be working normally withe replacement cable!!

It's early days but it's been fine for past few hours so fingers crossed 🙂

If it'll help the cable I replaced was this....

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B2QPSWSF?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

....and I replaced it with this....

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BRQHN5MY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

DISCLAIMER - I obviously can't guarantee it will solve your problems but SO FAR it appears to have resolved mine (fingers crossed)

Now if only I can figure out why the 'Oculus Virtual Audio Device' is wildly fluctuating the volume through the entire range!!!!

Has meta's support gave any response to this yet? I had this ridiculous problem too when tested just. Before v62 no any issues at all.

Meta Support is just a merry go round of none fixes. You will end up factory resetting your headset for no reason because a lot of the time it's the firmware they push that breaks things. Worst of all this was reported in the PTC, but they still pushed this firmware out to people regardless.

Their responses are mostly bots. That is automated messages. They don't care.
