(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Has anyone actually returned their Quest 3 due to this issue?   Curious if a new headset would not run into this even with the patch?  Reluctant to return mine through Amazon (I have until 3/17) in case this is just a patching issue after all.

Hi, I have and it was successful ish. I exchanged it through best buy before my return policy expired. The new one came with v60 and I haven’t had any issues.

I turned automatic updates off in oculus app, it installed a small update, not v62, and I have not received the error one time on pcvr.

the only disclaimer is that it recently popped up with a notification saying that v62 was going to update regardless of what I wanted it to do by march 14.

so I did what any sane person would do and I disconnected the WiFi from it and only use it for pcvr sim racing until they pull their heads out of their butt.

zero issues, have raced/used pcvr via third party link cable like I did with my first one for dozens of hours.

"so I did what any sane person would do and I disconnected the WiFi from it and only use it for pcvr sim racing until they pull their heads out of their butt"

How can you play without WiFi? Don't you need it on to be able to sign into your account?

And that small update that's not v62 probably contains instructions to update it to v62.

I'm also having this error. For me it only seems to happen if I plug in a cable that's not connected to a power source. I hope this is fixed quickly, it's extremely annoying.

v63 doesn't fix it. Ryanality TheLegend27 you either don't care or you can't fix it, 1.21 trillion corporation. Which one is it?

Experienced it after 2-3 weeks of using it.

Update: The error on my end just happened on that specific day (hour), maybe there is a liquid (sweat) or debris (microparticles) on the device as blowing the port and restarting my device resolved my issue.

I’m on my third Quest 3 in two months. The first one had a badly skewed interface, unusable for sim racing, the second one wasn’t much better, returned both and the third was decent but now it’s got the usb water thing which tbf is a sim racing killer. Luckily there’s still 10 days on the 30 day return so if V63 doesn’t fix it I’m out.
Shame really as it’s an awesome bit of kit let down by poor quality and poor software.

"Luckily there’s still 10 days on the 30 day return so if V63 doesn’t fix it I’m out."

Does the warranty reset when you get a replacement? You say you have ten days left on the 30 day return. Is that from your original headset or from the replacement?

The first two was from one store and the third else where so a 30 day restart. Not sure about the warranty resetting for a replacement,

TheLegend27are we going to get some kind of update on this?  It'll be a week tomorrow since your last bit of news.

So frustrating. No update for this?  I have two Quest 3 headsets in my household that are essentially worthless because they chirp nonstop with this USB-C warning. I guess I'll file a charge back with my credit card. So disappointed this has been going on since 2023.

How do you file a charge back?

Whichever credit card you purchased the device on, you can file a credit card charge dispute for basically not receiving a functional piece of equipment. Different credit cards have different options for charge backs.

Second message from support......

'I understand that you are experiencing an error message. I know how it affects your overall gaming experience here in the VR world. No worries; I will look into this for you.
Could you please provide a photo of your USB-C charging port? So that we can check it on our end.'

......Hmmm, why do the words 'jumping' and 'hoops' pop into my head? 🤔

They keep trying to send me this after they offer no solution and just another bot saying someone is looking into it. Trying to close tickets out they know are clearly still a problem.

absolutely worthless

TheLegend27 idk how you live with yourself working for such a scum puddle.

I've had several of those automated messages. Its ridiculous. The problem IS NOT solved. The problem was caused by them. And they won't fix it. Instead they add bull**bleep** features like Quest Cash and laying down mode. What a joke of a company.
