(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Oh and people please back-up this thread in case they make a mess releasing that version to the public and pretend they didn't know the risk.

(Or is the version 62 already public-available?)

"(Or is the version 62 already public-available?)"

Yes unfortunately. I and most others in this thread have v62.

I'd like to go back to v60 but its not possible it seems.

I just remembered something. Last night on the third time the error appeared I shutdown the headset. It does the same as when booting up (the meta logo is displayed). This is with my power bank plugged in. But instead of booting it shows the battery percentage on a black screen. I then pressed the power button for two seconds to boot it up. This is when I was able to play for about an hour. The error didn't come up. I will test more on the weekend. During the week I don't have much time.

Still nothing?? This has started happening to me now to. I can't believe they haven't at least acknowledged the problem and let us know they're investigating it!

They actually have and have replicated the error. They're working on a fix. They posted it earlier in the thread. But as you can see its slow going.

I played for 2 hours and 17 minutes. I got the error pop up once.
I don't think it matters when you connect your cable from your power bank. I didn't have it connected at first. I played until I got the warning your battery is low. At which point I plugged in my power bank. I got the warning about the battery being flat again. I think it drained a bit too fast for a minute or so. But I was able to play for just past the minimum play time of two hours. On the weekend I am going to try and play for four hours (each power bank gives me about two hours).

Well that was a short lived success........back to the 'liquid/debris in charging port' every five minutes or less again 😞

This Quest 3 is going back to Amazon! 😠

So they pushed out another update and the debris error is still not fixed?!??

How can a $1.2 trillion company be this incompetent?

They can add features like Quest Cash which is not essential. Yet they won't fix bugs.

Completely useless idiots.

having this same problem was in iracing mid race and the waring message pops up and i killed 5 peoples race. i cant race as people pay a monthly sub for the game just a really bad look on meta wonder if ther is a setting someone can find in an ini file to override this

March 6, 2024

More and more people are having this problem and Meta can't get it fixed, it took them 1 day to create this problem and they can't get it fixed in 4 weeks, a simple rollback would have been enough. I'm starting to think maybe it's not a software problem after all and we should start sending all headsets back.

Meta should stick more to "never touch a running system", we get totally useless things and the things that are important to us are destroyed.

I'm already afraid of updates.

If Meta ever fixes this I will never update again!
If they don't fix it, they'll get their quest back!

But wait, we now have a laying down mode, maybe the water will run out of the USB port? 😡

Yes I have put in a support request to send it back and get a replacement. I am past the 30 day window of being able to refund it. How convenient that this error started happening just after 30 days. Me thinks maybe it was timed that way?

Ok so I've had this issue as well for the past weeks happens about once a day it seems like I'm lucky in that department. I discovered today that if I just click ok the message goes away and I stay connected to my pcvr session so I don't lose dcs progress. I had just started a mission so I quit and went back to the quest menu to see if it was still charging and it was so my suggestion is don't touch the cable click ok and continue to play your game. I am using the pcvr charge and play cable from Amazon with the original quest 3 charger plugged into the cables charge port.

"I discovered today that if I just click ok the message goes away and I stay connected to my pcvr session so I don't lose dcs progress."

This happened to me on Tuesday night. I don't usually get the message though. Just a black screen.
