(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Sad for you.....any chance of returning it?

Maybe if I knew this in the first 2 weeks for full refund. But after 3rd month hoping they would fix it or find a solution I can probably claim warranty for it for a new one but tbh I do not want to be part of this community anymore mainly because of the way things are structured. I went from I want to pay to use this device to I am not getting paid enough to use this device…

haven't been on the forum for a while this issue is still going on for everyone or some?

Skippy111taz, Rolldabeatz, and anyone else still receiving the debris error.  If you're outside of the return window and you still have the proof of purchase, go ahead and contact Meta support for a replacement headset.  I was having this issue and got it replaced under warranty.  I've had my replacement for almost a month, just updated to v65, and haven't received the error at all.  Hopefully it stays that way.  I highly doubt a software update alone will fix it.  It may be hardware or both software/hardware.

Same for me too, the exchanged Quest 3 has not had the same message, my previous headset gave the error every time I plugged any device or charger into the USB C. I also suspect that at this stage a return and exchange under warranty is the only likely fix if the OS is already fully up to date.

agree. My Quest 3 was changed 2 times. The first change was not successfull, it had the USB C fault. Again I get into contact with Meta support (with a lot of AI stupid emails) and the Quest 3 was changed the second time. Now it was successfull.

However, the Meta support is horrible. A lot of patience is necessary.

Cross-posting from another thread since I've posted here before.
I have had the issue since upgrading to v62.

I have enrolled in PTC on Quest3 and are now on v66 in the headset. PC App is not enrolled in PTC.
The issue persists. My workaround since the issue surfaced is that I can run on a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port on my motherboard that does not seem to provide much power. The battery drains, albeit slowly.
On my USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 port that provides enough power for longer sessions I get the error, seemingly at random, but of course unplayable in multiplayer flight sim. On v60 this USB-port worked flawlessly.

It's also still a problem for me. Currently on v64 (since others have reported that updating to v65 has made it even worse) and has been a consistent issue since v62, no matter the combo of cables, batteries or chargers used.

I'm assuming it's gone quieter here because many (like me) have kinda given up on getting a response since it's been marked as "solved".

Hi Sunski

With respect I don't think many would have given up because it's marked as 'solved'....it's a relatively high value device after all.

Rather, I think many have either received replacement headsets that solve the issue (like me) or obtained a resolution through updates (by no means a universal fix).

Given the timeline of this headset's 'inception' into the market, is it correct to say that NONE are actually out of warranty? (in the UK it's 2 years).

If that's the case....and updates are NOT providing a solution......it's simple. Send it back!

Hi,

I recently acquired a Quest 3 and have observed that the USB port debris sensor is extremely sensitive. Over time, this sensitivity appears to be increasing, which is quite concerning. Is this a common issue with the Quest 3? I am aware of other USB port-related problems, so I understand the importance of this feature. However, I am curious if others are still experiencing this issue, as it was supposedly addressed in a previous update.

Thanks
