(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

At First I noticed that the USB connection would connect then immediately disconnect itself from my PC. Then I also got the liquid water sensor issue. Overall there's quite a few things acting weird. So I returned it....and exchanged it for a new one. opened it today and....same **bleep**. How is this the software for a $500 device 4 months in? It is literally unusable with PC. Like can even connect it. (Using Metas Cable)

Blame on Zuckerberg, I've been using Oculus devices for years and when they were managed by Oculus firmware updates had always been fully tested and working. Since Zuckerberg put his hands on Oculus every update introduced bugs that we have to wait ages before they get fixed. That's the case... thousand of users can't use their Quest 3 after updating to v62 (and also v63) and still no news...

What version of v62 is everyone on? I received a second v62 update and the debris/moisture popup has not shown up since and I leave my quest 3 plugged in and charging while playing. I’m on software version 49829370055000510.

After v62 update, I got this liquid/debris warning when charging my Quest3.

This charging warning only pops up when quest3 screen is ON, there's no warning when screen is OFF and charging is fully founctional.

I've switched another type-c cable, and the warning remains.

So I think it's v62 update cause this problem. It's totally fine before the update.

Hello All,

I am a PCVR user for mainly DCS flight sim. For the last 2 weeks no matter what graphic settings I set up, I have a choppy experience for both visuals and audio. My specs: Intel i9 13900, 4080 RTX, 64 DDR5 Ram. I connect through official Quest 3 link cable. My windows and graphic card drivers are updated. I did the factory reset, did not work. I run the DCS game with super low potato settings and the amount of the choppiness or stutter is pretty much the same. Actually I have no frame drop but stutter is for both audio and visuals are there. First I thought it was the cable but it is same with Virtual Desktop as well. Besides all, now I have time to time Debris and Liquid warning in USB port warning., then I figured this is a common issue. How can I resolve this choppy visuals and audio? (My PC is in high performance mode) Since the day I bought this Meta Quest 3, I am spending way more time on troubleshooting rather than enjoying it. I should not have given up my Reverb G2!!! Is it possible to return this item after 2 months of ownership? I live in EU.

Thx

Same thing is happening to me. Bought my Quest 3 new about 2-3 weeks ago and it started it displaying that message around the time of the v62 update. About half the times I pick it up after it's been charging for a while it'll have the message.

Same issue here. I had never seen this message before updating to v62. As soon as updated, I can't use Link anymore because this message will show up all the time.

From what it sounds like, everyone is better off contacting support and accepting the replacement quest 3 for the hardware being “defective” and not downloading the v62 update. It should show up with v60 which we know to be working and sustainable.

they don’t want to fix the software in a timely manner let them eat the cost of the hardware.

I can confirm that getting a new one with v60 fixes the issue and that v62 doesn’t automatically update if you turn off auto updates in the oculus app.

You not good at giving advice.
It will get fixed, stuff can happen - no need to give terrible advice.

it's very easy for meta, just turn this message off , that all I want for now . the problem is the message in the middle of my game. And as everyone knows online game dont have pause, so don't pause my screen.

I have just emailed support about this issue and attached a link to this thread. We'll see if they respond.

I really don't get why support can't join in an their own forum and at least let us know the are addressing the issue 🤔.

Its been quite a pain, agreed. i had struggles trying to find if i was the only one having this issue with the newest update. took me a good hour of searching to find this forum thread about this (mostly cause when searching online for quest 3 stuff google prefers usually to show either quest 2 stuff, or stuff from a year ago)

On the topic of this, i do wish they made a way to turn off features like this, that way if any sort of software issue like this ever pops up users would have a way around something like this.

I know this isnt a simple third party cord issue either, as ive even tried using the cord that came with the box plugged directly into my pc's motherboard by usb c to usb c. its 100% a software issue...

Here is the response I got back from support after directing them to this thread:

"In order for me to check further, may I request a Meta Quest log file? You may provide the Meta Quest log file by following the below steps:

1. Open the Run window (Windows key + R).
2. Enter and run: C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusLogGatherer.exe
    • The above link is the default directory. Bear in mind that if you installed the Oculus PC app to another drive you will need to update the command with the correct file path.
3. Select the checkbox next to ‘Full logs’.
4. Select "1 day" from the "Collect last" drop down list.
5. Wait for the log collection to finish. This can take some time to complete.
6. The program will automatically generate a zip file containing your logs, which will be saved to your desktop automatically.
7. Attach the newly created zip file to your next support response.

Once you provide the Meta Quest log file, I will be able to assist you further.

Sincerely,
(Ashwin)"

They clearly never checked the thread, because the issue is in the headset. My PC report won't show anything because I don't really run PC VR. I just use the headset app plugged into the wall and Virtual Desktop. I will connect to my PC and make a report just to humor them though and point out the issue happens when running only headset games as well.

I do encourage everyone to just email support and try to direct them to this thread on their own forum.

That's the proof that Meta is not even considering this thread and probably this issue will never be fixed unti we start returning our devices or start flooding Zuckerberg Facebook profile with messages inviting him (and Meta) instead than expressing personal opinions on Apple's visor to keep an eye on the issues that updates are causing to THEIR visors.
