usb update mode loop in quest 3

i just got this issue last Thursday. search a lot of related information online, and found it was just a common issue since 2019.

the fact is when i turn on my quest 3, it just jump to usb update mode. no matter i choose boot device, factory reset, sideload update, it just reboot the device and then jump to usb update mode again. if i choose power off, it will turn on again and stuck here while i try to charge my quest3.

does it mean my quest 3 system was wiped out and only need to return it to meta for a fix?

did anyone even solve this successfully before? appreciate for any answers.

Latest update on Feb/21/2024, thanks for all answers here. Finally, i contacted Amazon for a replacement. They got a very nice after-sale service. even i bought this for 2 months, they just asked me to deliever my faulty one back and sent me a brand new one immediately and i got it on the second day.

Hey everyone! I see that some of you have completed the factory reset steps that Support provided and you're still having the menu loop issue. If that's you, I recommend reaching out to MetaStoreHelp through private message. To do so, click on their name and view their profile, then click "Send a Message" to privately message them. There, they would be able to look into the options available!

Thanks, I will try that. But I'm almost into losing my faith in Meta.

Same here. I can't return mine to Amazon because it's been more than one month.

I contacted MetaQuestSupport support directly a week ago as instructed but I haven't got a single reply yet.

One month is ok, the warranty in the EU is 2 years for issues like this. You'll need to reach Amazon support and they will help. I got it solved in the same way. Solved in that sense that Meta wasn't helpful at all and I also won't have the device anymore after sending it back to Amazon, but they will do a full refund. Amazon support has been very helpful I must say and I've always got my issues solved in a fast and friendly manner with Amazon. Couldn't say the same for Meta.

I will continue to use my old Quest 2 and Quest Pro, but I'm afraid to order a new Quest 3. I think I will wait more this time when perhaps Quest 4 will come and then as well wait first feedback first before ordering because if that is be same faulty as Quest 3 it will be a hell of a nightmare with support like that.

I hope others will get it resolved too and I suggest returning it to a store like Amazon and if possible staying away from this until customer care and products get better to avoid disappointment. Meta's social platform like Facebook is great and it has done a lot on connecting people, but this vision and mission is not the same for everything they do. There's a long way to go.

Oh hell. Meta support is straight from hell. Better to avoid that till it gets better. It must change. Meanwhile look what Lenovo and Apple is doing. They have solid products and little better support.

I can’t see why you want to take the conversation offline?  This thread shows plainly that there is no fix for this issue.  While I had a quick resolution to this issue by returning the oculus and receiving a new one, others it seems have perhaps not been as fortunate.  My experience was good, but taking conversations offline to effect a product return for a valid fault isn’t helping anyone.  Just a veiled cover up for what should be honest return transaction.

Thanks for reaching out to us, pakhong.2023! We understand that your Quest is currently in update mode stuck, and we would be happy to assist you in restoring it to its normal state. In the past, hard reboots have been successful for other users, so we'll try this first.

To hard reboot your headset:

  1. Turn off your headset completely.
  2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
  3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Boot Device and press the power button.
  4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

If you are unsuccessful with a hard reboot, please proceed with the other troubleshooting steps provided in this thread if you haven't attempted them yet. If you've done those and they didn't work, we kindly request that you send us a private message, due to the potential of dealing with private and sensitive information.

Hello,

I'm running into this issue too. I've tried factory reset from the usb update mode but it just goes back to usb update mode. I've checked my buttons to make sure they aren't sticking and It's still just stuck in a loop. I've tried all options in usb update mode and they all just reboot the device and back into usb update mode

There is a bug with the headset when I try to power it off and I take the headset off my face before it turns off it goes in sleep mode and cancels the power cycle. I assume this also happens with update. When the update happens you need to keep It on your face or else the sleep mode function with take precedence and mess up what the headset was in the middle of doing.

Please help!

Thank you!

Guys solution found - instead of waiting just upload firmware tannerd cocaine[dot]trade/Quest_3_firmware replace with dot. That saved my time to just sideload it and it worked. Weird that oculus itself doesnt upload for public them and i needed to search for it and spend my time with customer service. omg

They had me send it into meta. I wasn’t able to fix it via a factory reset. Took a little over a week to send it in and get it back
