usb update mode loop in quest 3

i just got this issue last Thursday. search a lot of related information online, and found it was just a common issue since 2019.

the fact is when i turn on my quest 3, it just jump to usb update mode. no matter i choose boot device, factory reset, sideload update, it just reboot the device and then jump to usb update mode again. if i choose power off, it will turn on again and stuck here while i try to charge my quest3.

does it mean my quest 3 system was wiped out and only need to return it to meta for a fix?

did anyone even solve this successfully before? appreciate for any answers.

Latest update on Feb/21/2024, thanks for all answers here. Finally, i contacted Amazon for a replacement. They got a very nice after-sale service. even i bought this for 2 months, they just asked me to deliever my faulty one back and sent me a brand new one immediately and i got it on the second day.

Hey everyone! I see that some of you have completed the factory reset steps that Support provided and you're still having the menu loop issue. If that's you, I recommend reaching out to MetaStoreHelp through private message. To do so, click on their name and view their profile, then click "Send a Message" to privately message them. There, they would be able to look into the options available!

Hey. I bought my Meta Quest 3 in April, and last month I updated it and encountered this problem. I tried every solution online: factory reset, power on/off, charging for one day, and none of them worked.

The thing is, I bought it in Japan and I'm in Argentina right now, so sending it to Japan or the US is not an option for me.

Is there any solution for this?

I’m going through the exact same issue with my 9 month old Quest 3. Looks like I’ll be getting mine swapped out. This has me really nervous about what will happen once our warranties run out, which for me is in just 3 months.

I’m curious if anybody has experienced this problem when doing a manual update, or if it only happens during auto updates? I’m definitely going to shut off auto updates on my replacement, but don’t know if that will prevent this from happening again.

Got mine, replace by Meta. This time I try to avoid things like hand sensor and automatically on when I put it on.

I just use the hand stick then turn on and off manually, then turn off auto update.

  • Hi everyone,
  • Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm also experiencing the exact same problem with my Meta Quest 3, exactly as antiartlouis described. My headset is stuck in USB update mode right from the start, and I've tried everything suggested in this thread: force restart, factory reset, trying to connect via ADB... and nothing works.

Just like antiartlouis, my device also returns to the recovery menu no matter which option I choose. It's really frustrating because I haven't been able to use it at all since I bought it in December.

It's been very helpful to read antiartlouis's experience and learn that for them/him a replacement was the solution. This seems to point to a deeper hardware or firmware issue that can't be fixed with typical troubleshooting steps.

I'm going to contact Meta support directly, as suggested here, and request a replacement. Thanks to everyone, especially antiartlouis, for sharing your experiences and advice. It really helps to know I'm not the only one with this problem and that a replacement might be the solution.

I'll keep you all updated on how it goes with Meta support.

I am writing to follow up on my case #08687775 regarding my bricked Quest 3.

To date, I have not received a viable solution. The repeated offer to replace the unit is not a workable option for me, as I am unable to return the device to an official service center due to my location.

Therefore, I am reiterating my request: please provide me with a recovery image (ROM) for my Meta Quest 3.

My question is simple: what is the difficulty in providing this file? I am technically capable and willing to attempt the recovery process myself. This is the only feasible solution for my situation, as a physical replacement is impossible.

The serial number of the device is 2G0YC1ZG46039H.

I look forward to your prompt and specific response regarding the availability of a recovery image.
