What Wifi 6e routers currently works bug free with the Quest 3?

Hi! Just wanted to post here to get a seperate thread going. As of today there is a major bug in communication between Quest 3 and certain types of Router models.

So let's get a list started on Wifi 6e routers that actually work. What Router do you have experience with being stable at 2400 Mbps in dedicated 6e mode?

Remember to post Router name and model and screen grabs/video from the Quest 3 showing the speed. (Turn on experimental wifi settings to do so.)

This is by no account a list that is for everyone. So far I found that some of the more expensive models between 350-700$/€ have been reported to work. So meta still has a major bug to fix. But if you can afford it, this might be is a way around the problem…

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

The bug explained:

There is a bug with negotiation rates with certain router models. Essentially AX and AXE models but more might also be affected. I have been investigating this bug since launch and finally both Meta and TP-Link have confirmed that the Quest3s negotiation protokolls with the routers is very unstable. This problem is totally unrelated to VD or AirPlay functionality, but it's here you'll notice the problem.

As of right now the Mbps can flux from approximately 1080 to 1900 on 6G and ocasinaly dip down below 800. Making it stutter and glitch in latency.

On 5G it will flux between 1080 and 420 Mbps making it essentially unusable in wireless PC streaming.

Both Meta and TP-Link are currently investigating the problem.

Meta has stated that the problem will be fixed with a firmware build in the near future.

If your experiencing this bug and want to follow its progress you can follow this seperate thread:

Hey everyone! Let's sum things up with a list of routers discussed in this thread. Keep in mind that these are personal recommendations, and success may vary based on your setup and location. It's advised to buy routers with return policies so you can test them yourself (purchase at your own risk).

  • ASUS GT-AX11000 PRO:

  • ASUS GT-AXE16000:

    • Amazon link
    • 6 GHz 160Hz – Small Fluctuations 2100-2400 Mbps. (But some have problems connecting to 6Ghz nett... maybe not related)
    • 5 GHz 160Hz – Stable at 2401 Mbps

  • Linksys Hydra Pro 6E Tri‑Band WiFi-6E-Mesh-Router:

  • ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000:

  • MSI Radix AXE6600:

    • Amazon link
    • Conflicting reports
    • 6 GHz 160Hz – Stable 2400 Mbps
    • Connection issues and Small Fluctuations 2100-2400 Mbps

  • ASUS RT-AX88U PRO:

  • ASUS RT-AX86U PRO:

  • Asus RT-AXE7800:

I just tested this one you posted:

ASUS RT-AX88U PRO:

It didn't work. I'm not even sure how you got 160hz on it as when you set it to 160hz, the Quest 3 doesn't recognize the router. I got it up to 1200 Mbps. It stuttered just like every other router. This is the third router I've tried. I think I'm done with Quest and I'll wait for the Quest 4. Maybe I'll go back to Quest 2 as I don't remember it stuttering like that.

I have the same issue - the RT-AX88U is not stable.  I'll get the 1200 sometimes then not.  Airlink stutters, Airlink with Steam stutters.  I'm hoping someone will post a "best settings for a 6ghz routers" list.

I've looked through this channel so many times my head swims.  Never you mind my name LOL

I tried EVERYTHING. Nothing worked. I'm returning my Quest 3, Bobo VR S3 PRO and both Routers I bought just for it.

I have an Asus GT-AX6000 and working fine at the moment. Not sure what to add. If you use VD then use the VDXR runtime (windows client). It's proved to be around 10% faster than SteamVR. If you have a vpn, disable first. I read recently to turn off QoS on your router. But when I tried it everything went haywire. Don't always believe what you read. Try first for yourself. You can always change it back.

I don't get 2400 wifi on my Q3.  Only 1200.  It is stable however.  I have AX11000 Pro Router - strong signal.  on the 3rd band..  What am I missing?  Router has 160 MHz enabled

Could you guys confirm if the TP-LINK AXE 5400 is currently working with quest 3 at 6ghz? I'm thinking about buying a new router but didn't want to go to the expensive Asus options... Hoping this is possible already...

Hey, daniel_aquino!

Officially, Air Link only supports 2.4GHz bands and the recommended 5GHz bands.
Some users have reported some success with WiFi 6 routers but they're not something that Air Link is fully equipped to work with just yet.

If I don't take my foot off the gas, I might miss it all. ⪤ Quest 3 | Rift S, Quest, Quest 2, Pico 4 ⪤ MSI RTX 4070, i7-13700F, 64GB DDR5 5600MHz ⪤ Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer | Shiny Caramel Transparent | Brown Polarised

Hello everyone!
I just found out what can improve Wi-Fi performanse with Quest 3.

Try to go to your router settings and disable 2.4GHz module.
You probably have something like Smart Connect enabled.
Disable it and after this you'll be able to disable 2.4GHz

On Asus GT-AX6000 it is in Wireless, disable it and there in Professional tab you can disable 2.4 GHz. Don't forget to press Apply

This helped me to improve both image quality and latency significantly, I'd say it's almost ideal now, can't complain.
Also tried it on Xiaomi AX3200 (it doesn't support Wi-Fi 6), it worked whith both routers.

In additional if you use Steam Link or Virtual Desktop, try to disable Quest Link in your Quest 3 settings (Quick settings -> Settings -> System -> Quest link tab). This may also help.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post my experience with wifi 6GHz.

I've been using TP-Link Omada BE11000 for a few weeks now and it is working quite well. I get 2400mbps, with practically zero shutters. When the headset enters standby mode, sometimes it disconects from the wifi, but after a few seconds of use it can find the 6ghz signal again and automatically reconnects to it. I've never experienced disconnection during usage.

To me it is very usable and I'm glad I could jump to 6Ghz because my region is crowded with 5Ghz, so my experience is very good now.

This is a nice AP with wifi 7 support and around 169 usd so it is not that expensible and you will be future proof with this configuration. Please note that you will still need a another switch or router if you whant to to connect other devices by cable since it doesn't have any additional ethernet ports, and you will probably want to use a POE injector to power the AP. But using it to have an access point to play with my Quest 3 is a viable solution. Also note that since wifi 6Ghz signal is weaker than 5Ghz, so you probably have to install the AP in the same room you are playing, as i did.

Hey,

Did anyone test it with the NETGEAR Nighthawk WiFi 6E Router (RAXE300)?

I have just bought a TP-Link BE230 Wifi7 router. I am using the router with Virtual Desktop. Altough it is a wifi7 router it does not have a 6Ghz Channel but it is providing a solid 2400Mbps data bandwith.  I have configured the router as an access point. The router has two 2.5Gbps ports. One is connected to my modem and the other one is connected to my PC. And the price was around $80. Quest do not support Wifi7 but the Wifi7 is backward compatible so I had no issues. The user interface is very clear It was easy to figuring out the configuration in no more than 5 minutes I was up. I had too many doubts before but it is working like a charm. A price tag at this range, Wifi7 and two 2.5Gbit ports was decisive for me and I am happy.
