Well Lucsaski since you already pledged for Omni your opinion is a little biased... so...

lucsasaki - I dont have much to add to our conversation other than the fact that the girl on the video was walking on the earlier version of the Cyberith not the latest one that we are talking about. I also had problems with the previous version of the Cyberith, because just like you, I had big issues with the unnatural movements I could see on the videos. I almost pre-orderd an Virtuix Omni but an email from the Cyberith team stopped me. They wrote that they have found new materials which allows you better, smoother and more natural movements with bigger stepsizes. So I waited about a week when this video was released: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGWPHYT88r8 As you can see the difference is significant. If the Cyberith had not made those changes I would have gone for the Omni.

ziphnor I am pointing out problems with the Omni. You call that "bashing"?

Anyway, in the end one fact remains which proves the superiority of the Cyberith over the Omni: Everything that you can do on the Omni you can also do (at least as good) on the Cyberith, but the reverse is not true.

Perhaps it would have been more accurate to say that you are bashing lucsasaki (though i would call comments like "it looks like its about to come apart any second when running" and the Einstein comment at least somewhat bashy wrt the Omni and not particularly well founded :) Anyway, it doesn't hurt to be nice.

I certainly hope you are right, but i think it is completely impossible to conclude anything about superiority based on the currently available information. I would say that the Virtualizer has the potentialto surpass the Omni, but the extra freedom of movement on the Virtualizer is a bit worthless if the Omni feels much better when walking for example. The new video certainly makes me hopeful, but i would really like to see videos of someone else learning to walk on both ODT's.

I never said
"it looks like its about to come apart any second when running"

Frito wrote that. Don't attribute false things to me and then claim I'm bashing!

You talk about being nice... Where you nice to me when you said the following?
farrefar, you should see a doctor about that fanboy-virus you seem to have caught

Your the one bashing ;)

Guys, please keep in mind flaming is not allowed. You can have a civil argument if you like, but please stay away from insulting each other or calling people names. Thanks.

I am very sorry about that, my mistake, but chill out a bit, please? Your attitude is still pretty aggressive.

That was an attempt at good humor. Sorry if you took it otherwise. Again, there is no need to be so aggressive about it.

I only posted in the first place to suggest that we keep things a bit more civil, but i seem to be having the opposite effect, so i will shut up now :)

Hi everyone, this is my first post on these forums so please be nice :)

I see there's a debate going on about the merits of Cyberith Virtualizer v Virtuix Omni. I can't comment on the Virtualizer, but I will give you my impression of the Omni.

In addition to being game-changingly-awesome (let's get that out of the way!) I can say that the Omni is very comfortable to use, and both the upward curved edges and the material are a blessing. Normally when you run, your foot accelerates downwards - generating a lot of force, and lands on a hard horizontal surface. This creates shock, which puts strain on joints and tires muscles over time. As the outer edge of the Omni and your foot are at about the same angle when they meet, and you are not lowering your foot that much before it makes contact, there isn't anywhere near the same amount of impact. The curve means gravity helps bring your foot back, reducing the need for traction and saving you energy, allowing you to run for longer, which is important for gaming. There is also an inherent 'give' in the proprietary plastic. Far from making it less sturdy, that too makes it much kinder on your body than a hard, flat surface would be. I ran on it for a week over the course of two shows (EuroGamer Expo and AppsWorld), and was really impressed by how it felt. I much prefer it to a regular treadmill. You can indeed walk, and even jog backwards, I know because... I've done it! I'm not sure why Jan downplayed it before, maybe it was more difficult with the older shoe design (it's since been improved).

I was very excited by the Omni the first time I saw it, on MTBS3D, being used to play Skyrim. Having followed it ever since, backed it on Kickstarter, and got my hopes ridiculously high, I was worried I might be disappointed when I finally got to try it. After about 5 minutes of walking gently to get a feel for it, I gradually increased my pace and started to jog, then run, and soon I was grinning like a Cheshire cat. It actually exceeded my expectations! Ignore the videos of people trying it for the first time, once you've spent a few hours on it you'll be running like a pro.

Believe me you will not want to go back to playing videogames the old way. This is the future.

sutekiB - Thank you for sharing :D
Its always illuminating to read what people who have actually tried an omni-directional treadmill have to say.

If the Virtuix Omni team would add a crouching and sitting function that would be great!
I really hope they do.....

I wish! No, I'm afraid I'm just a moderator (community manager sounds better, hehe). I updated that blog with some more impressions today. http://www.ign.com/blogs/sutekib/2013/11/01/entering-a-new-world Cool vid at the end of it (also here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN8-tLrYt_w) You can see how intense it is, especially when someone's killing you with a flamethrower.
