Yep they are comparing running on the virtualizer to running on a "normal" treadmill

I expect a pre-order / Kickstarter soon, then we will know the price ;-)

Last i heard from Cyberith the crowdfunding campaign is scheduled for december 11th. As long as the price is within reason i am almost certainly backing it. Can't wait to combine it with STEM's.

I do not think the Cyberith will be significantly more expensive than the Virtuix Omni but I am convinced it will be MUCH better than the Virtuix for the following 5 reasons:

1. It is constructed with better quality materials, and is more robust.
2. It has a flat surface so moving on it will feel much more natural (just watch how much more natural the movements look compared to the Omni: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGWPHYT88r8 ) .
3. It makes less noise than the Virtuix Omni.
4. You can do the following movements which is not possible on the Virtuix:
- crouching
- walking backwards
- Jumping
- sitting (which is necessary for games where you besides moving around also drive cars/vehicles - like GTA).
5. You don't need to buy new shoes every once in a while (and your friends that want to try it out also don't need special-made shoes).

I will definitely go for the Cyberith.

If the Cyberith is released to the market before the Virtuix Omni the Omni will fall out of peoples memory within a few years :)

1. How do you know this? Don't spread false information please. Look carefully at the video you posted, the towers are slightly tilting each steps he takes. Where do you go when a Cyberith breaks? One of the reason that Omni is design the way it is is because the creator wanted it to be break proof.

2. Did you try both? After watching videos from both threadmills I'm not convinced about which is more natural.

3. Indeed.

4. You can jump and walk backwards on the Omni. Crouching is iffy and yeah, sitting is a problem with the Omni.

5. Just lots of socks, I'm curious to see if all socks work well on it.

I wish the Cyberith good luck but to say that it was spell the Omni's doom is going a bit too far.

Pricing will play a huge part here, and hopefully competition will ultimately make us(the customers) the winners.

Dude cmon... check any omni video, it looks like its about to come apart any second when running.... im not saying it will, it has a metal skeleton apparently, but if you compare both in that regard, omni loses

And ill take the cyberith metal housing instead of the omnis injected plastic anytime

ps> i wouldnt call that jumping :P

To me, cyberith has much more homework in their design than omni

Why does it have to be either or ? I think in the beginning there's a lot of room for competition, so I'm not worried at all.

I watched the video and else then the harness moving I tried my best to see the ring moving but couldn't. If I were to bet 500$ on which is tougher I'd put it on the Omni (I did!) but being a fan of the Omni doesn't make me feel like I should say that the Cyberith is doom. I'm sure you'll enjoy your Cyberith and I'll enjoy my Omni.

PS "dude cmon" I watch both videos and maybe I need glasses but he jumps the exact same way the Cyberith guy does.

1. Because metal is harder than plastic, Einstein! When you walk around in real life you normally do that on a flat surface (Cyberith) and not in a pit-shaped surface (Omni).
2. No I haven't, have you? (you also make claims)
3. Nice to hear that we agree :)
4. For real, do you really call what Jan Goetgeluk does in this video (at 3:30) jumping and crouching?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BapUZSSh0So
And sitting on the Omni is not just a problem my friend, its impossible!
Concerning walking backwards your wrong. The virtuix Omni team admits that this is not possible but tries to shun away this problem by saying that walking backwards is not that important in games: http://www.virtuix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=160
5. Socks are cheaper than special-made shoes ;) Moreover, everyone has socks, the same is not true for the "Omni shoes". So if you have friends over who have a different shoe-size than you they cant try your Omni.

Last reply as I am getting a be tired of this. To be clear, I'm only trying to inform people, I have absolutely nothing against the Cyberith, watch videos of it and the Omni and chose which ever you want, VR wins either way!

1. So you're just pulling stuff out of your ass? Way to misinform "Einstein". I'm was talking about the towers and last I check metal bends a lot more over time then steel reinforced plastic.
2. Where did I pull stuff out of nowhere? You have me confused with eerr... you. Jan's jumps are "normal". Backwards walking is doable but tricky is what they've said. Why bring up sitting again? It is a problem that needs to be fixed, I know, we ALL know.
3. Glad you're glad about one thing.
4. Watch more Cyberith videos my friend, you seem to be a bit to bias in your observations. (To which you may reply the same thing BUT I'm not! The Omni has it's fault for darn sure but the Cyberith will not spell it's doom cause it has faults too!)
5. I watched a video where the person walking on the Cyberith really seemed to be putting a lot of effort into each steps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3FVVISQQ0g go to 4:40, the girl look like she's walking through thick snow!

Again last post as I can't have a conversation with someone that simply invents arguments.

Best of luck to the Cyberith team with their future kickstarter! I know I won't back you up but I'll still be honestly rooting for them! (crazy, I know!)

farrefar, you should see a doctor about that fanboy-virus you seem to have caught :) I am also very excited about the Virtualizer (and will back it), but i don't see any reason to go around bashing the Omni.

As to how they compare, the way i see it is that the Virtualizer's main advantage is that it allows more freedom of movement. In particular it allows you to walk backwards (something that is very natural to do), and something that Virtuix themselves has said would be problematic on the Omni. Good support for sitting and proper crouching are also nice, but hardly essential.

As to the whole flat vs. curved surface, i am not entirely convinced that flat is preferable, there is a reason that Virtuix wen't with the curved surface, and to me it seems that all-out running seems more natural on the Omni. It might be annoying with the shoes for the Omni, but they do help prevent sliding to the side. I think that slower/small movements might be better on the Virtualizer, but no one will know for sure until we have consumer editions of both.

Finally, i don't think there is any cause to claim that the durability of the Omni would be worse than the Virtualizer. The virtualizer might have more metal, but it also have a lot more movable parts, which usually reduces durability. Overall i have confidence in both in this area.
