I think Virtuix don't show videos like the one I posted, because the movements are not possible in the Omni.

Argh, I wish I'd videoed myself doing those movements now! Understand your skepticism though, it does sound too good to be true. :(

I know you already said you are pretty biased, but trying to panic people into ordering the Omni is perhaps taking it a bit too far? :)

You've got me there! I just didn't want any other developers waiting unduly because they thought it was still coming out in January. Might make a difference to some people.

I'm not that biased really, I just desperately want VR to be a success this time, and I'll support anything I think will be an asset. Case in point - here I am advocating the Reactive Grip ahead of the Kickstarter!

How can you NOT trust that face?

The issue I see with all of these devices is that they are exhausting. The gamer community isn't exactly known for their endurance. I applaud the idea of making movement in a virtual environment as realistic as possible, but I don't expect it to ever go mass market. It will be good for training and simulations of walk throughs and whatnot. It's the same problem with the CAVE. Large, bulky, expensive and uncomfortable.

Have you been in a CAVE? I have tried a few and they are not uncomfortable. They are large and expensive but a Virtualizer+Rift isn't.

Walking around inside of Half-Life 2 in a Virtualizer is a really cool experience, especially that you can duck and take cover naturally. One problem is still in the games that they don't support analog ducking but bust digital ducked/not-ducked (the device can detect this btw) :-(
Maybe this will change the way (some) gamers play and in 10 years the stereotypical gamer will be fit and muscular because s/he spends hours a day in a ODT :-D

Just FYI: ODTs do help with nausea, I was quite susceptible before I got my VR legs, and I can tell you that even trotting in place helps a bit. Any form of movement, even if it's not accurate, makes your "VR stamina" last longer ;)

Hello

Great concept.

I was thinking of something :

Adding something on the hips ring, to hold a frontal "kinect-like" Camera.
So it would turn, with the ring, and turn with us, so it would always be in front of Us, recognizing our arms movments

I know that when i crouch, i Tend to bend over, to move my hips forward.
I'm afraid that by doing so, as the hips are kept in place by the ring, the feet have to move backward, so we can crouch naturally.

It wouldn't be a problem, but did you implemented a security that by doing so, the device doesn't detect a "false" feet backward movement ?

Currently the ring does not move - a smaller ring inside of the ring you see on the pictures moves. Anyway: A kinect-like camera would need a quite wide FoV for this, also the current kinect only delivers 30FPS which might be too slow for good immersion. But in the long run high framerate vision based methods might be a good thing. A STEM might already be enough to track your limbs :-D

My dream, that I wrote about earlier, has come true!

Playing GTA with the Oculus Rift and Cyberith. Amazing!

Looks like a lot of fun. Imagine that with native support - arbitrary walking/running speed, walking direction, looking direction and shooting direction independent from each other, analog ducking and jumping :-D
