DK2 Development kit

I have been waiting on the DK2 kit to develop on, and I saw that Quarter 3 is the time that it is going to be released based on these projections. Is this a correct assumption that the DK2 models will ship in august? I reference:

If this is correct, and it is using your new display screens, is it also correct to assume the stereo camera support? this could kickstart my project MUCH further, and a buddy I have been in talks with will move on to developing on this platform, he rejected the initial idea due to Resolution.

On another note,

we saw this, and now were thinking of implementation into a project we are working on using the rift :)

I and the OP have had a friendly PM discussion shortly after this thread. The sales projections were several months old, and a lot has changed since then. Oculus has recently stated very clearly that the 1080p prototype is just a prototype, and there are no firm plans for a DK2.

You apparently skipped the factual details in this thread and just adopted the OP's original misunderstanding, and also where he thanked us for providing useful information near the end.

Please provide details where the DK2 "was in fact announced by Oculus at the GDC". If you really do have such insider information, and you are waiting for a DK1, you should cancel it and wait for a DK2.

You should read the entire thread before drawing premature conclusions and posting about how irritated this thread made you.

Im must say, I am really irritated about the discussion style here. If someone asks a simple and absolutely legit question about a maybe upcoming DK2 (which was in fact announced by Oculus at the GDC and would make perfect sense) I see no reason for all this arrogance in this thread.

So why not simply deny or confirm this (but deliver no date yet) ? Where's the problem?

First, it was never announced at GDC or anywhere and second, If you have a business question and you decide to ask it on a public forum, you don't get to politely tell a member to shut the fuck up because he didn't give the answer you expected. And the whole "I'm gonna take my millions elsewhere" Dr. Evil act... Please. The way I see it, that's when the "arrogance" started.

Edit: Why did I even think GM wouldn't reply to this before I did.

No one asked for the HD prototype from the E3, it was all about the DK2 from this Oculus presentation:

So it was obviously planned internally at least.

As I can't remember a official notice from Oculus either that they changed their plans to not release a updated DevKit before the launch of the consumer version it's not absurd to assume a release of an DK2 before Q3/Q4 2014, don't you think?

I also don't get why this sheet should be worthless, just because it's "several month old". In other words, were can I find the official statement from Oculus that the plans for a DK2 are in fact canceled?

    Thanks,

Do we have an official statement saying there are plans for a DK2 to be released? A meeting slide without context isn't a product announcement. DK1 is still in the process of initial release.

kariiato I think you made a good choice, while i like my Rift the main let down is the display it is pretty bad, and having a higher res display i think is a must. As far as a second dev kit. there is a bit of "offical" confirmation of that in the latest Edge magazine article on the Rift it is mentioned (mainly in passing not much details however) so i do hope that they do plan to release another towards the end of the year. However if it does not have a new display i do not think it will be worth getting as that is really the key. So i think for those on the fence you really should just wait. Unless you have no life (like me ) and it gives you something to do and play around with, but while the immersion is there the low res hurts a bit. I would hope some sort of dev kit 2 at the end of this year would be nice....i think honestly it kinda is needed because the screen on the current one is just so low, you put a lot of work into nice art assets and graphics but its frustrating to a lot of detail lost due to the low res. (mainly everything looks pixely more so at a distance)

we shall see! first things first they gotta get that batch through customs first!

@spyro: This was meant for you, but I was just being polite when I said "somebody". Please read it. Look up every word in a dictionary if you need to. Understand it. It is apparent from your most recent post that you still have some severe misconceptions about marketing methodology and sales projections and product announcements, and perhaps about technical forum etiquette or even the English language itself. Not sure what exactly, but there is certainly a communications breakdown going on in regards to your recent posts in this thread. Just to be certain that you will see it again, here it is for you to read BEFORE making more comments here:

Per Geekmaster's post, that's not needed at all for development.

Nothing in this repeatedly quotet statement says that there will not be an updated DevKit at some time between now and the consumer version. It just makes clear that software developed with the DK1 will still perfectly run on the final device and that this particular E3 HD prototype will not be sold as a product. ...
I will not read your next postings anymore, sorry. They seem in general not contain any useful information ...

Some people just refuse to learn. I will never understand that.

Oculus VR did not say there will not be a DK9 with an 8K display either. Maybe we should cancel our DK1 orders and wait for that, eh?

And your closing comment just proves how misinformed your opinions really are, in that you will continue to form ill opinions and make inflammatory statements without actually reading my posts, just as you have so far.

How many of my posts (1,000+ at OculusVR.com and 2,000+ at MTBS3D.com and 5,000+ at MobileRead.com) did you actually read before forming your broad and sweeping "in general" opinion? Not many, I suspect. Not even many in just this thread alone, based on your ill informed replies...

Oh well, good luck with your life, such as it is. I suggest you open your mind and study some stuff. Learning is good for you...

EDIT: I see that you are from Germany, so perhaps there are "language barrier" issues at play here, and you really may not understand what I was saying. Many people call stuff they do not understand "BS". So perhaps that is where you are coming from:
