DK2 Development kit

I have been waiting on the DK2 kit to develop on, and I saw that Quarter 3 is the time that it is going to be released based on these projections. Is this a correct assumption that the DK2 models will ship in august? I reference:

If this is correct, and it is using your new display screens, is it also correct to assume the stereo camera support? this could kickstart my project MUCH further, and a buddy I have been in talks with will move on to developing on this platform, he rejected the initial idea due to Resolution.

On another note,

we saw this, and now were thinking of implementation into a project we are working on using the rift :)

Well.. I got the V1.1 Dev kit.. so that means thats two different versions already

Only minor production line changes. Same version, different sub-version. Not a DK2 by any means. ;)

Maybe, but that can't be inferred from the powerpoint slide.

Nothing can be inferred from the powerpoint slide. Unless they got some secret information from the future, neither the projected sales figures nor the quarterly time estimates have any real accuracy. They are just optimistic ideas of what can be, not what will be. Hopefully, component pricing and availability will allow for such optimism, but only time will tell. Notice the "confidential" label at the bottom of the slide, which shows that this sales projection information was not intended for public consumption, and was especially not intended as a public announcement of product scheduling. Of course, much of that information may still be relevant to their INTERNAL planning, subject to change depending an many factors.

I thought Palmer Lucky and co. said quite a few times that there wouldn't be a DK2? At first I was a bit irritated, now just confused, that threads like these pop up or get revived.. not to come off as harsh of course. Is there any news that I've missed? :|

Some people just confuse wishful thinking with reality. Virtual Reality may be even more confusing. Nobody can predict the future with any accuracy. It is much easier to predict the past, but even that is often subject to change as more evidence is discovered. Reality is not as simple as it may seem, because we each have our own set of beliefs and perceptual filters that determine what small portion of sensory input shapes our internal model of reality. The sales projection figures are not facts, just ideas of what can be, and should not have undue influence on anybody's view of reality. IMHO...

However, there are community members working on Dev Kit hardware upgrades (including better than 1080p displays) that may be significant enough to qualify as an unofficial DK2 by some standards. But no major hardware upgrades yet from Oculus VR.
    ;)

Hmm.. I just looked back to see who revived this thread, and it is a member who as of now has only ONE post count. I did not notice it until now. Apparently the ONLY post dalematthews make here was to make a disrespectful comment, calling me a "douche" (which is a forum rule violation):

I have read many of your posts on MTBS, you come off a bit of a douche.

Considering that a douche is cleansing and refreshing, what do you call someone like dalematthews who just posts to piss on (and piss off) a respected and valuable contributor to this community? Not even a SINGLE valuable post by that member -- only name calling and disrespect. Not a good way to make a first impression, IMHO...

I see what you mean. It just gets a little difficult not to respond to the posts in which DK2 is discussed with a link to Palmer's quote. :?

What is your thought about a new member who only made a SINGLE post, reviving this thread to call me a disrespectful name? I really tire of such small-minded destructive and anti-productive people that this thread seems to attract....
    :(

I do not know why that disrespectrul post is bothering me so much this morning. Perhaps it will be less annoying after I have my morning coffee... EDIT: Ahh... yes! Coffee is putting things into perspective. Where would we be without our morning coffee?

For anybody reading this thread, let it be known that the OP (shadeemry) and I had a pleasant ongoing PM discussion AFTER the discussion earlier in this thread, and he seemed to agree with my posts after we talked a bit more about this and other subjects. Sometimes it takes awhile to come to an understanding. Also, other members with whom I have had very heated (virtually flame-war) debates here and at MTBS3D often send me PM requests and interesting information and opinions now that they have learned to respect me and my wealth of shared knowledge and ideas, and abundant personal assistance that I have provided to many members. Hopefully this enlightenment will happen to some of the disrespectful members who have posted to this thread as well, after they learn to open their eyes and their minds to things a bit outside their past experience and personal belief systems... This has happened at multiple forums for many topics, where my biggest arch-rivals have become my closest friends in many cases. It could happen here too, when people learn how to be respectful to others.

    geekmaster,
for being one of those who had an argument with you at the beggining let me tell you a friendly advice :

Stop taking things in a so personnal maneer. Stop trying to prove, or to demonstrate how much greater you are.
It won't worth it. It won't serves you, you'll only prove to have too much pride. And it can deserve you
(it strange to defend our own reputation on a topic, with a lot of investigation on the other, and long answer, like if our life depend on it), you'll just expose yourself like someone being in conflict.

People are not stupid, they can judge by themselves how much valuable information you bring in every topics.
And I think they would take your defence by themselves, If you let them do it.

Cuz u have only two kind of people

_The one who don't care, who aren't involved, and who will forgot your name one hours after, even if you prove them you're right.
_The one who care, and who read a lot of topic here, and who will have a pretty good opinion by themselve of who you can be and how much valuable information you have.

Have some faith in the free judgment of others.

You have a lot more interesting stuff to bring to this forum than useless fight with random unknown peoples.

    Regards,

Like I said in my EDIT above, I had not yet had my morning coffee... People calling me names like that seems less bothersome now after my morning coffee...

    Yeah I know this feeling.
When you have your morning coffee, you open your eyes and you realise the world around you is in fire, and a box of matches is in your right hand.

Perhaps in your world... I have never had that experience. My "industry wide reputation" (as quoted from others) is in putting out fires... ;)

    >Cancel order because its still DK1
Cancel away, these things are ebaying for $450 every day, a clear sign that demand exceeds supply. It is common procedure for development kits that to be vastly more costly than the retail version. I firmly believe that Oculus made the right decision to not do that initially as a peripheral with no support is useless. However once a resolution on the consumer variant is determined they could, in addition to the DK1 offer a DK2 at a substantially higher price. The high end developers (with budgets in the 5 million range) that want to know what their gaming experience will be like in the final version will have that option. The higher cost should more than compensate for hand building them in house (acquire more interns if necessary), the shells could even be 3d printed if the injection molded parts aren't available.

We all want a 2k screen, 300hz, pupil tracking, centimeter accurate (indoor capable) gps, wireless (16 hr battery), surround sound audio with an integrated 4k kinect with fish eye lenses capable of both 3d mapping your environment to game and tracking your limbs. We want it now and we want it to cost $150. But we don't always get everything we want do we?

Did they ever integrate the sensors to the point that they could do positional tracking rather than just orientational tracking. Our natural tendency to lean in at something to get a better view or sitting up taller to look over something not being mapped to gameplay would be disconcerting. I think they had a gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer; should be enough sensors to do it if they are of sufficient quality.
