Idea of occulus game/demo you would like

Hi,

Maybe a lot of you are like me, a lot of idea, but no game-developper skill.
And maybe some others are very good developper but have no idea...

Here is a topic, where you can regroup every Idea of game, demo, or simulation you wishe to test with occulus rift.

From my point of view :

flying is the dream of every men, so :

_A superman flying simulation, a great "man-flying" simulation in virtual mountains or city would be great.
With a great care of the "gravity" feeling, of course.
or
_A jetpack flying simulation. with limited acceleration phases Very good sensation, with a lot of up&down.
or
_A "jump from" simulation : Jump from a plane, a mountain, a building, and see the floor coming to you.
or
_A catapult simulation. Where you're catapulted by some device.

Reincarnate yourself with the body of someone/something else :
We saw some demo in the body of a mosquito, of a baby...
Lets try everything !

_Underwater environment : To feel the oppresive environment of the water, and trying to catch fish, all around you.

Go with your ideas ;)

Good idea! That reminds me of when I watched Inception. Am I all the way out yet?

I have a few music inspired ideas, I'm a long way from creating them myself so feel free to steal them :D

    Virtual Drummer

You are a drummer in a band and you are on an empty stage practicing for the show. The lighting guy is adjusting the lights for the venue which gives the background a bit more life. A more complex version could actually include the full band and have gameplay similar to Rock Band.

Control is done with a Hydra representing the drum sticks. People would have to be careful not to smash their hands into their monitors while playing! Heck, maybe it should just be a drum solo in front of a cheering audience. The better you play, the more cheering. Would create a deeper emotional connection instead of playing in an empty room.

Due to the latency of the Hydra I doubt a real drummer would like this, but it could be a fun demo.

    Waveform Glider

Another idea is to go for something more dream like. You are flying through an idyllic sky, puffy clouds, green farmland below. With your left arm you can control your flight, with your right arm you can control your magical sound wand. By twirling and making different gestures you create different dreamlike sound textures. These sounds are represented by clouds and objects in the sky. All the sounds you create are positional, allowing the user to create their own mix based on their positioning. The created scenes can be saved and shared with other users.

This would be really cool, and fit the title, if the shapes you draw with a Hydra were converted into actual waveforms. Make a smooth sine wave and you will hear a clean tone. Shake your hand like crazy and the waveform would be far more harmonic.

You can take a look at my test with virtual drums.

It's not working that good, bec. you have no resistance, and to much lag in the controlls.

    A sailplane sim

You're sitting in the airplane.. a winch lifts you into the air. You check your instruments, watch the surrounding clouds, listen to the variometer, always looking for the best thermal lift....

    A relaxing, peaceful experience.

Sailplane sim sounds like it would be a blissful experience Sven!

So we've got various flying and driving demos either, how about some...Alpine sliding!

You're in a fixed position with only one control, a brake. The rest is gravity. With a decent physics model there would be an element of skill involved to keep yourself from flying off the track into the trees. Can be relaxing or thrilling depending on how you control the brake. The concept could evolve into a Track Mania sort of thing where users can build tracks using a modular construction set.

    Here's a nice GoPro video.

Tennis or ping pong seem like a perfect fit.

Much like the original Wii version. It would work better than most sports games because you won't have to move your legs. Developers could also use existing Wii controllers.

    Airplane passenger simulator.

Bring your Oculus on long flights and not only can you simulate being in first class and turn that obnoxious person in the seat next to you into a hottie but when you want to take a nap the ambient light is already being blocked. ;)

Funny, I worked on this. Catapulting yourself into a structure to destroy it. Like Angry Birds 3D. I found that it is fun to catapult yourself but it's not to be graved under tons of cement and steal. Maybe switching the camera will do the deal.

I'd love to see others interpret these ideas as I'm probably not going to have much time in the near future to work on them. With all these, I have an Oculus/Hydra combo in mind:

Gritty survival/horror multiplayer (co-op?) or MMO FPS. The player is an early caveman, waking up in a dingy cave with no recollection of his/her past. The objectives are to hunt, find shelter and attempt to interact with other early human species and tribes using motion. Crafting for weapons with a needs system (food/warmth/shelter) and tribe reputation.

RTS/god-game. The player is a god of the planet with a first-person view from high in the skies (with the ability to zoom in on specific points of interest). Instead of directly interacting with units, the player must influence them through simple expressions - grabbing handfuls of dirt or water and dropping them elsewhere to change the terrain, slamming down their fist on opposing tribes or boosting crop growth with chants and magic.

Team space action/strategy. Think FTL + Guns of Icarus with limited FPS aspects. This would be a pretty cool idea to explore for co-op play - the players would each control different aspects of the ship (allocating resources according to their roles, eg. engineer would allocate power to different areas and combat specialist would control weapons and shields). 'Beaming' over to another ship would be possible, to initiate a hostile takeover via the typical FPS mechanics. Alliances and animosity could change dynamically according to the wishes of the captains, perhaps encouraging a mix of competitive/cooperative action through dynamically generated goals that could conflict or coincide with those of other players.

Fast-paced hand-to-hand combat FPS. Something like Age of Chivalry but set in modern times or near future with combination techniques from fighting games. Perhaps even far future or fantasy, allowing for exoskeletons and inhuman feats of agility and strength.

Rogue VR. Simply a port of Slash'em or Angband or similar to a 3D virtual reality environment, maybe using similar mechanics to that excellent 3D first-person tile-based game I've forgotten the name of. I'd love to see full-sized 3D ASCII characters but I have a feeling that actual models/textures would look better.

World destruction sandbox, with emphasis on the Hydra. A first person Red Faction: Guerilla or Just Cause 2 without all the filler - just smash away at the world and enemies! Those guys that destroyed their televisions by throwing their WiiMotes around? They'll love this.

    Honestly? Full blown Pokemon RPG.
