Is it really as simple as adding a second or third camera?

Hi oculus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d3Wli7s6KY claims you are backing out of the VR experience and only choosing the seated VR experience at about 6minutes and 10 seconds in.

why not add an extra camera or two and get back the enthusiasm first present in DK1?

also: will you be including a case for the DK2? (i can make my own but knowing is half the battle.

thanks in advance for the software update required to make this simple solution possible, sorry i was not able to tell you about the simple solution of the extra cameras sooner.

last also for now: lifehacker.com/5850388/use-a-cheap-ikea-lamp-to-build-an-affordable-desktop-camera-jig (keep in mind the 3d printed part is not required.. duct tape or bailing wire or spray foam.. would work fine.

thanks for going back to the VR experience instead of the lacking in VR experience.

Rewatch that video again and you will notice that Nate said that they want to nail seated first before moving on. You might also notice, that DK2 allows for more freedom of movements than DK1.

I also prefer the focus on getting a simpler VR experience *right* first and then move on instead of trying everything and only getting it somehow to work. I already tried VR with a wireless HMD and full movement tracking in a room, but it wasn't done good enough and even DK1 with less freedom was more immersive.

if the solution is an extra camera or a central camera hub.. the problem is lack of people willing to fight for a better product instead of accepting Oculus's words as fact.
DK1 was aimed at VR.. DK2 should be aimed at the same. it is not our fault they did not have better testing when deciding the fix should be laziness instead of something as simple as updating the camera or adding an extra camera or two.

there is a different youtube video of 18minutes long that claims their fix is to aim at the lesser VR experience too.. it also shows the problem with 1 camera to be evident in the seated position TOO.

YES THE PRODUCT IS AWESOME AS IS.. no i will not buy it as is. the camera is the obvious next fix.

***if you want to focus on the simpler VR don't use the extra cameras (or the upgraded camera) they should include***

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpNQHNkJY1g#t=254 roughly 4minutes 17 seconds shows proof of lack of testing their product or shows proof of dishonesty (it is one or the other) 15minutes 20 seconds shows the flaw of the one camera instead of more regardless of being seated. that camera is not very large.. it is not going to hurt to send 3 and if someone thinks they're ugly, they're not required to use them.

Who is actually going to go down to the store, demo a Rift and then look at the box and say "Oh, dude. I can't stand up and play my PC games with this? Pffffft.. Later dude, I'm off to play my Wii for 4 hours straight."

someone who has, or intends to make or buy, an omni treadmill..

if you don't want to stand up, don't.. i won't be standing for a good few months as my budget allows me to get one 500$ item for myself every 5 months *roughly*

i found the 18minute video with the example of the current system does not work with sitting without an extra camera.. the third camera seems required for standing only, so could be used for augmenting reality when sitting.

*edit* i could get the treadmill now and buy or make some goggles later.

I've been wondering why DK2 is using IR above something like what the STEM system is using. From the videos/interviews I have seen the people at Sixense seems very confident in their new product, and boasting how low latency it has etc (due to new design decisions etc)

Why would Oculus not use something similar? Is the tech too expensive (ie drive the overall price too high?) or is it that even the seemingly low latency of the STEM is still too high?

    Cool tech, not practical.

not practical "to you". if you don't want to stand.. don't use all of the cameras as 2 should be enough to avoid data loss if you place them at the sides instead of the single camera in front. they're not large cameras so they should not be too much of an "eye sore" to a sitting consumer, while being great when mixxed with a lamp for the standing consumer lifehacker.com/5850388/use-a-cheap-ikea-lamp-to-build-an-affordable-desktop-camera-jig

1/3rd of the volume of oculus rift kickstarter's 9,600.. how many of those 3200 people do you think have some version of a head mounted display?
