Is it really as simple as adding a second or third camera?

Hi oculus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d3Wli7s6KY claims you are backing out of the VR experience and only choosing the seated VR experience at about 6minutes and 10 seconds in.

why not add an extra camera or two and get back the enthusiasm first present in DK1?

also: will you be including a case for the DK2? (i can make my own but knowing is half the battle.

thanks in advance for the software update required to make this simple solution possible, sorry i was not able to tell you about the simple solution of the extra cameras sooner.

last also for now: lifehacker.com/5850388/use-a-cheap-ikea-lamp-to-build-an-affordable-desktop-camera-jig (keep in mind the 3d printed part is not required.. duct tape or bailing wire or spray foam.. would work fine.

thanks for going back to the VR experience instead of the lacking in VR experience.

You could use a HD video transmitter. They cost more for a decent one, $100 and up. I use one for my quadcopter, but I have no idea what the latency would be, as it is not as critical in that application.

like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-720P-HD-Video-2-4Ghz-WIFI-Wireless-HDMI-USB-AV-TV-Transmitter-WDA-HS201-/111147001404?pt=US_Audio_Video_Transmitters&hash=item19e0e0a63c for 27$ (free shipping)

i assume it is not a decent one, but the requirement for me seems only to not cause motion sickness at this point.
this is secondary to my priority goal for the DK2 : a better focus on the camera or don't use the camera. the wires are easily accommodated with some string and a pully above my head ( for now)

if you want to make use of the triple camera system and not resort to moving to a default stance each time you rotate too far : http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Micro-USB-Male-To-USB-Female-360-Degree-Rotation-Angle-Extension-Adapter-/370686198052?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564e9e8124 should be the main requirement.. but i forgot about the hdmi cable for now...

    found http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Female-to-Female-F-F-360-Rotating-Swivel-180-Angled-Converter-Adapter-/180930806956?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item2a205104ac
but could only do one or the other on the adapter or they would get tangled on their own.. so then why not make the usb powered by a pack (easy enough to make your self) and use the rotating adapter for the hdmi only.. would continue to want a pully system to keep the cord above you.. i'm thinking so far.

Any wireless router that compresses the video will increase latency. For low latency you need to to to trasmit the video uncompressed.

Wireless routers that transmit uncompressed latency free 1080p 60hz hdmi through obstacles do exist.

However they are a bit more pricey almost half the target price of the Rift.

It would be simpler to put IRLeds in the backstrip in a pattern they would be recognized by the camera (besides the oculus giving info about the rotation angle, etc...)
But these are just improvements. We need to think whether we want to improve it or re-design it.
Using 2 or 3 cameras is not crazy, but neither it's a viable solution.
I think this is just a patch that would cover casual gamer's standards. Considering myself a hardcore gamer, and a VR enthusiast, I would also like to buy an Omni and a PrioVR full suit. (Even if it will take me years). But PrioVR and Sixense technologies offer a better solution for this kinds of "problems".

Either way, I still hope they re-design it for consumer version. They are still doing tons of research, and have came with some pretty cool things like Low-latency, so fingers crossed!

    snip

I think it would need to be a rigid box on the back of the head, to display a proper pattern. It could contain batteries or be powered by the USB port.

I have debated that on this thread also.

we just need an opensource Kinect2 alike....all will be possible, full position, extraction of own arms 3d data to be used for in-game rep. , etc etc...
seems to me the most obvious solution...
