More resolution = more revolution

Hi

The next generation of small display is on the way. Look at the new smartphone Sony Xperia Z or the new HTC One, they have a full HD display.

Because not only the most high viewing angle but also the resolution cloud make the Oculus VR glasses to a revolution, try to implement such a full HD display as soon as possible. Also guess about to place two displays vertically - for each eye its own, to get even more resolution.

With such a VR glass you have a real revolution!!

Thanks for thinking forward.

Oculus is coming along at the right time, with mobile and cell phone display pushing for higher density small displays the tech is moving along via that multi billion dollar market and Oculus can simply come along and use the tech already being developed there. This is one of the "lucky timing" things that innovation usually needs to have happen but is seldom talked about.

    Timing really is everything.

I believe that Palmer has mentioned at just about ever opportunity he gets that the fact that the Oculus is even possible now is due to the Display technology finally being ready, driven by the advancement in the cell phone/tablet market. So seldom talked about isn't really accurate. But still a very correct observation.

With the flexible screens coming out. If one of them is used, and can get the screen closer to the optics... Then resolution might not be the biggest issue. It's not ppi... but pixels per degree that's interesting.

I would love to see the rift support separate the video / other parts of the board, and have a 5" and 7" rift body (and possibly curved). And allow upgrades when new screens come out. At least for the developers kits.

For the Consumer version, They should make 2 Rift modeles...

299.00$ with the best resolution possible for that price.... ( resolution at least twice as the Dev Kit )
499.00$ with HD for each eye...!

I agree as many others have said the number one limiting factor of the Rift right now is the resolution. But it will come. I dont even think its needed 4k Resolution or anything like that. Heck i look at youtube videos at 360p most of the time to save bandwith (as i have a bandwith cap and all) but its mainly the pixel density that has to be improved mostly a 1080p display that has a higher pixel density may also be able to play games at 1280 x 800 (as thats closer to what i play at ) because the higher res you go the lower the framerates will be and you need good framerates for Vr. so my guess is some sort of high density display thats like a retina screen i think would go a long way. but for me i dont mind if the dev kit isnt perfect seems the general view for those who tried it out is that yeah....the display is lower but it doesnt take away that much from the experience for now :-) it will come.

the only thing i am slightly worried about is the Edge article said that the new dev kit will focus on a wider view and all but didnt say it would add a new display. I assume it would. Oculus i would say dont even bother coming out with a new dev kit version if it does not have a better resolution display too. Id gladly pay for another rift if it did!

    thanks!

Two Rift with only different resolution would satisfy everyone. Sony sells their google which are not even for virtual reality at 1000.00$ so one at 299.0$ and another one at 499.00$ is IMO very reasonable....

visualizer ( the OP ) could be right, why not use 2 HD screens instead of only one...i would pay 499.00$ for
    A deluxe Special Edition !

sony xperia Z has an incredible display. i have seen it, i actually REALLY tried hard to see the little pixels, i went as close as possible with my eyes but all that happened is that my eyes became fuzzy, no way to see pixels. so i guess in the rift with the lenses u might probably see pixels then but they would not be big for sure

The only way to properly tell is by using a magnifying glass, because that is essentially what the Rift lenses are, except design for your eyes.

he is right Maddy25, remove a lens from your rift and put at 2 inch in front of the sony xperia Z and the Samsung s4 amoled display and tell us if it looks a lot better than the actual dev kit screen....
