They are going so fast! They may have the full backing over the next hour.

I also went for the $299, after panicking over what to select due to the pace at which the early birds were going :) Backed it before they managed to put on the international shipping costs.

Backed at $300 of course.

Oh the CAVEs I'll be able to make with this thing!

The hydra is okay for position, garbage for absolute orientation, and the latency is atrocious (see how slowly I had to move the camera?). This new system (if the numbers are right) should have 1/4th the lag!

The main issue I foresee is initialization and calibration. Those are my main sticking points with the hydra. Let's hope they can solve that!

This is an expencive week for VR. First I backed the Pro version of the PrioVR and now the 5 sensor STEM!

Yeah I think that was a good move for them. I have a feeling that the PrioVR solution will be better in the long run for VR. They have already said they will be producing full VR glove addons for the system. Still STEM looks great too and they already met their goal so we know they will get funded. We will just have to wait and see.

The July 2014 deadline makes perfect sense to me. It's a long way off, probably intentionally. My guess is that they think they'll be done closer to April [arbitrary early month]. This way, if they deliver early, everyone's expectations are exceeded.

Tell everyone April, deliver May. Bad blood.
Tell everyone July, deliver May. Second coming.

You don't lose anyone by telling them July.*

*(or if you do, the fact that they were 100+% funded in a few hours indicates that you don't lose -enough- people to make it a legit concern.)

The problem I have with the stem (and the omni and everything else VR on kickstarter) is that they all seem to release far before the oculus consumer. so what happens when you have people backing these projects and later find out the oculus wont be out for months after the project you backed comes out :/? I guess for the stem its a lot less problematic since you can play on a regular screen, and again im not complaining about the products or the oculus, I just think its gunna suck for a lot of these backers :P

That's a fair problem to have with it, but it kind of speaks to the spirit of what Kickstarter is in theory, and the reality of what it is in practice.

In theory, Kickstarter is a place where you go to give money to hopeful artists and entrepreneurs you believe in, to support them, and help them -potentially- meet their goals/dreams.

In practice, it's largely a place where people go to get early deals on projects. Some of whom are hopeful artists and entrepreneurs, others are corporations/established entities who want not only the money but the a. press b. market validation. This is neither good nor bad, it just is.

In theory, there's no problem with backed projects being released before other ancillary products being complete. In practice, I can see why it'd be a bummer.
