No impressive VR app so far.

Similar to Augmented Reality, when it was first introduced, everyone thought it was cool but after so many years, we have not yet seen a successful application/game which convincingly makes good use of the technology.... I am afraid VR is having the same issue as Oculus Rift DK has been released for a while already, nothing is really impressive, practical and necessarily...

Do you agree?

I think more than half the demos I've played in the Rift have been impressive. It's just so much more engaging to be in VR versus playing a traditional game. The Rift has only been a thing for a little over a year and it's still in the development stage, that's like asking why there were no good titles for the PS3 in 2004, it was still in development and it takers several years to make a AAA quality experience. I think that the indie development community has made some really engaging stuff thus far, but it is going to take some time and showing that there is a consumer market for this tech to get the AAA developers to start making software for it.

Oculus Rift, and more generally VR needs its own Zelda...if you know what I mean.

Seriously, there are more impressive titles mentioned in this post than what I can find @ share.oculus.com!!!

Again, I am a big fan of VR and will continue to support it in any way I can.... but games like Half-Life for Oculus Rift was really like a joke to me... applications like VR Camera, which is extremely cool, but honestly, even if I had DK2, I wonder if I could finish the whole movie with it, I would not even be able to see the popcorn and softdrink...

A virtual tool would be something I am most interested. The Japan tour demo is pretty cool... hoping to see more of that.

You're onto a loser with this one mate.
Anyone who says anything remotely negative about the Rift in here gets jumped on and called a Troll.

I think HL2 and Rollercoaster are both very impressive. But, I do think the Rift is still lacking a Killer demo program for it.
I said it in another post, I think with Facebook's money behind them now, Oculus themselves should be looking to get an absolute mind blowing piece of software created to show off their impressive hardware achievements.
They've got Carmack on board, they should be using him in that way imo.

Of course that's to be expected. It's only a developer's kit at the moment, and developers make the demos!

This is entirely a moot point UNTIL CV1 is close to release.

And my point is, the kit has been around for a year, Oculus have one of the worlds best game developers on board and should have churned out something amazing for it themselves imo.

How do you know that they haven't? the time isn't right to reveal that fgs! they need 'big guns' come CV1. THAT is when they will reveal the killer apps, not now to a bunch of nerds and devs (and yes I count myself as both of those so no offence to anyone).

oh and btw 'killer apps' and 'amazing things' take more than a year in general. Normal game dev is hard enough but VR raises the bar again due to lots of technical/logistical kinks to work out/innovate on along the way. Time is needed. Even John Carmack (alone) can't knock out the new "VR equivalent of Doom" that quickly. Give them time...

    - iRacing
    - That other racing game that was mentioned, Corsota or w/e

    - DARPA purchasing an undisclosed amount of headsets for future VR applications for the Navy
    - Foreign governments using the headset for their tank operators (so they don't need to physically look outside the tank)
    - NASA using the headset for their rovers
