Playstation Move PS3 Move Controller?

I know the Razer Hydra is pretty much the "standard" motion controller being coupled with the Rift at the moment, but has anyone thought about using the Playstation Move controller with it?

I haven't used a Hydra yet, but I have a PS3 and the Move and the accuracy and latency is pretty fantastic. Games like Sports Champion Table Tennis control almost exactly 1:1

Check out the video at 5:00

Also a huge plus is that it's wireless, and since it's using a camera to track motion you can get further away without losing signal unlike the Hydra.

It seems people have successfully paired the controller with PC already too:

Does anyone here have both a Playstation Move and a Hydra? And what do you think of each as far as accuracy and latency? I also think the latency would be even further reduced using a Move on a PC considering they're more powerful than a PS3.

Today I've succesfully emulated the razer hydra using the pseye, 2 psmoves and 2 navigation controlles.
Here is my FreePIE Fork[1] and the Script[2] I've used to emulate them.

I've used MotionInJoy to get both navigation controllers input (through xbox360 emulation within MIJ). The reason I'm using xbox360 emulation for them and not their direct input is because at this moment there is an incompatibility between the FreePIE psmove plugin and the Joystick one. The joystick plugin tries to get exclusive access to the psmoves when it is loaded and it prevents the psmove plugin to actually get access to the data.

I'll do some more testing and post a more detailed guide if someone wants to use it.

I'd be very interested in the detailed guide when you have the time. This would be a great substitute for a stem until that mess gets sorted out

I just wonder if you were aware of this Opensource alternative to MOTIONJOY

All I want is a zero hassle Bt enabled Navi and Move working with my sharpshooter. so keep up the work.

I have never heard of that project before, but I'm actually quite interested. Do you know if navigation controller is supposed to work with this driver too? I've heard nav controller is basically a stripped ds3 but I guess it need a little bit specific code appart from ds3 support.

Motioninjoy is a provisional software to work with right now, it allows me to connect both nav controllers with xbox360 emulation (this is pretty important right now because I can't use FreePIE joystick plugin yet for some psmove incompatibility issues).

    My initial plan was
1.- Going straight ahead with whatever could work and get the FreePIE plugin done
2.- Create and test the hydra emulation script.
3.- Build some duct-taped "attachment" prototypes for the nav and move controllers
4.- Polish and get rid of non-opensource software if posible

Yesterday I've tested the "ergonomic" design I suggested earlier in this thread.

I turned out to be a bad decision :S. Light bulb positioning and visibility is optimal even when you point straight up or down, but weight distribution is completely awful so it is not "ergonomic" at all.

Here are some pics. Its really bulky but most of them is platic I didn't want to remove just in case I need it for another "prototype" xD.

Yes I set mine back up last night and I can confirm that both the navi & the DS3 work perfectly they are working as if they were xbox360 pads . and Bluetooth works pretty well.

I would avoid motionjoy as Ive heard to many bad things about it, its communicating with a server in china and is a REAL PAIN TO REMOVE. it a suspicious program and I wont go near it again.

found a couple of possible useful links.

    Unity plugin
    http://wiki.etc.cmu.edu/unity3d/index.php/Sony_PlayStation_Move_-_v2.0#External_Resource

Sample Code of Move.me Client and Examples
    https://code.google.com/p/moveme/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk%2FPSMoveSharp

I keep coming across lots of Unity ps move plugins but am unsure of which one is the best and why
Also I wonder if having the official Move.me from sony installed on your ps3 would help.

I realized that as the Playstation OS is linux based it doesn't rely on drivers, and the PS move features are embedded in the game that supports it not sure if this is correct or is it firmware based . as I heard a while back the PS3 source code was leaked.

just shooting of ideas as we seem to be at a stand still

Can anybody answer if they have had any success getting the Move working on linux as i have tried to add the api to linux mint without success. I know that the playstation move can work very well with linux as the bluetooth stack is superior to windows in this regard.
I have a plan to build a simple shooting range demo with unity and compile it for linux once i have successfully got my ps move working on linux.

I strongly suspect that windows dominance as a gaming platform on pc is going to be seriously diminished when steam os is available and card manufacturers start to provide correct linux driver support.
So if anybody has successfully achieve this with mint or ubuntu or whatever i need please could you advise me with a brief tutorial on what to do as i am a linux noob

Yes it worked without a problem for me using the PS Move API. The PS Eye camera was supported out-of-the-box and the pairing worked at first try.

I compiled it just like in Windows under Debian (similar to Ubuntu) and simply launched the examples. What's your problem specifically ? You can also get more help on the PS Move API forum.

well I initially installed mint on a laptop and was trying to install the libariys i downloaded from http://thp.io/2010/psmove/
but i kept running in to errors and it would fail to add them (Im a noob in linux in terminal so I was more than likely doing it wrong.

So I just downloaded the latest version of Mint 17 64bit Installed it on my main system as a VM and updated all the 320 packages it said were available.
I read that I should be installing the library files from source or possibly with Git ?. or can i just installed them directly from the downloaded file tar.gz.

    will try again after work
