Playstation Move PS3 Move Controller?

I know the Razer Hydra is pretty much the "standard" motion controller being coupled with the Rift at the moment, but has anyone thought about using the Playstation Move controller with it?

I haven't used a Hydra yet, but I have a PS3 and the Move and the accuracy and latency is pretty fantastic. Games like Sports Champion Table Tennis control almost exactly 1:1

Check out the video at 5:00

Also a huge plus is that it's wireless, and since it's using a camera to track motion you can get further away without losing signal unlike the Hydra.

It seems people have successfully paired the controller with PC already too:

Does anyone here have both a Playstation Move and a Hydra? And what do you think of each as far as accuracy and latency? I also think the latency would be even further reduced using a Move on a PC considering they're more powerful than a PS3.

Today I've succesfully emulated the razer hydra using the pseye, 2 psmoves and 2 navigation controlles.
Here is my FreePIE Fork[1] and the Script[2] I've used to emulate them.

I've used MotionInJoy to get both navigation controllers input (through xbox360 emulation within MIJ). The reason I'm using xbox360 emulation for them and not their direct input is because at this moment there is an incompatibility between the FreePIE psmove plugin and the Joystick one. The joystick plugin tries to get exclusive access to the psmoves when it is loaded and it prevents the psmove plugin to actually get access to the data.

I'll do some more testing and post a more detailed guide if someone wants to use it.

i'ld love a detailed guide, i picked up a few of the wands for 18 bucks at the store, figured someone would have had it working, 2 nav controllers and camera on the way from ebay for about the same ammount. Would love to try out HL VR and some lightsaber demos!

I've been on vacation recently, I'll try to do a detailed guide ASAP. It still has some orientation drift issues but it is usable. I don't know if it is related to internal psmoveapi IMU fusion algorithm or I am doing something wrong :?

I had the same drift problem along with jitter, I could only mitigate the jitter when tweaking the beta parameter of the sensor fusion code. I also suspect that there is a problem with the code as I don't have any drift problem with the DK1 or DK2.

I wonder if the sensor fusion code from the DK1 has been published along the recent open source release of the tracker or if it can be found in the Oculus SDK.

I'm having some positional tracking jitter too xD but as you said it can be mitigated.

I think psmoveapi uses mahony to make the orientation IMU fusion. Never thought about using the dk1 sensor fusion algorithm but it sounds like an obvious next step, it would be awesome at least to try it. Nice one!

I only had rotational jitter in fact, positional tracking was solid except for the field deformation, but I guess that can be corrected with camera calibration.

This was on Linux though and with an older version of the PS Move API that I had to modify. With my recent tries under Windows I don't remember having experienced jitter, but I didn't try in the same way (head-tracking vs hand tracking).

IIRC (that was more than a year ago) there is code to use Mahony or Madgwick and at the time I thought the latter was the best implementation so I tried to tweak this one. I've no idea which algorithm the DK1 is using, maybe a Kalman filter or a custom one. If the source is not available maybe having a look at the strings from the exe could give some hindsight.

Ouch sorry. You are right psmoveapi uses madwick.
I'm programming with FreePIE recently whose android plugin is the one that is using mahony, I mixed it in my head.

Is this the breakthrough we have been waiting for, could we possibly track PS MOVE with the dk2 IR camera now.

Extracting the LED Positions Opens Up a Whole New World of Input Possibilities

Unlocking the camera tracking capabilities could open the door for tracking other input devices. Custom wearable accessories with infrared lights embedded would be able to be picked up the system. Modifying ‘raver gloves‘ for VR use, for example, could provide additional inputs for the virtual reality experience and induce greater levels of presence.

Hey man any updates? its cool if you are on holiday! My nav controllers should be here today or tomorrow, camera arrived too, so keen to give it a go!

    Hi there,
my Name is Markus and I am just working on my Bachelor Thesis in Design. I am highly interested in getting the PS Move Controller working in Unity for my project . Mac OS X 10.9.5

And I did it - almost.

I could transfer the orientation of the controller but not its position in 3D Space.

As i read that the PS Eye Camera detects the movement in 3d Space, I was searching for a driver/software for mac, but could only find one for Windows: https://codelaboratories.com/downloads .
Is there already any API that comes with a fitting driver for the camera?
I found a video on youtube to get the camera running as a webcam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyfFL_YaWVk and I read in a forum that the drivers for the EyeCam comes along with the programm "maccam" (when I tried it, i only got an still image of the camera, no fluent stream)

I saw some demo videos from PlayHouse Entertainment and I am highly interested in getting that stick running.

Can anybody help me, it is a very important part for my thesis.

Does Anybody have some links or descriptions for further information?
    Iam happy about any help.
    Best wishes, Markus

As I am a Designer and not a programmer i want to sum up my efforts for others. Eventually it helps. Please correct me, when i am wrong.

    For Mac:
    1. You need an Playstation Move API (API is something like an Driver/Software for the controllers)
you need to follow strictly these instructions to pair the controller to your mac: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16oB5jpbCpeRWb0o7w0b9bFbT3vEzWGqEPESWZUSCPuU/edit?pli=1

2.Ok, your PS Move Controller is successfully connected via Bluetooth, now you need to try it out in Unity Pro, so follow this link to download a sample: it is called the "unimove project " http://www.copenhagengamecollective.org/projects/unimove/ you find the source code under this link https://github.com/CopenhagenGameCollective/UniMove

    3. Open a new project in unity Pro and import the "custom Package " that is delivered with the link in 2.

    4. Now you should get all code files and an example scene in this package. Open the example Scene - when there is the question of saving the previous - klick no. (there was some trouble while is was trying it out)

    5. Press play, now you should control the light of the controller by pressing X- Cricle ect. buttons. and the movement is getting transferred to unity ( it should- I had a lot of troubles till its working fine - try to restart or reimport the scene ect.)

... There are also other possibilities like Move.me from Sony - but you need to have a PS3 and a Network connection

You may have a look at this : https://github.com/thp/PS3EYEDriver

Another solution is to use the iSight camera on OS X as said on the PS Move API website.

There is a reference to this driver in the PS Move API Google group, you may have more chances asking there.
