Playstation Move PS3 Move Controller?

I know the Razer Hydra is pretty much the "standard" motion controller being coupled with the Rift at the moment, but has anyone thought about using the Playstation Move controller with it?

I haven't used a Hydra yet, but I have a PS3 and the Move and the accuracy and latency is pretty fantastic. Games like Sports Champion Table Tennis control almost exactly 1:1

Check out the video at 5:00

Also a huge plus is that it's wireless, and since it's using a camera to track motion you can get further away without losing signal unlike the Hydra.

It seems people have successfully paired the controller with PC already too:

Does anyone here have both a Playstation Move and a Hydra? And what do you think of each as far as accuracy and latency? I also think the latency would be even further reduced using a Move on a PC considering they're more powerful than a PS3.

Great job! Will go now for a move controller :D

Hydra is not possible to order and this seems to be a good alternative.

You will be able to do so soon. I'm working to emulate the Razer hydra using 2 psmoves and 2 navigation controllers. Unfortunately looks like the required setup is going to be a little bit weird.

even if anybody could just get the playstation sharpshooter working as the main weapon in somthing like half life 2 , which i know many vr fans with a rift are experimenting with it would be a humongous breakthrough. The navigation on its own possibly already the best device one could use for moving your character in this environment as it only requires one hand.
You can pick a playstation move and navigation controller + the sharpshooter rifle to put them in for less than the price of a good gaming mouse.

I agree, using the sharpshooter would be perfect. Its for sale on amazon for like 15$ now.

I imagine you are going to secure the two together somehow to have one of each in each hand. Correct?

Yes, that's the best solution so far, just like the "dualplay" idea. I still don't know how to build my own attachment for nav and move controllers. I've tried to get in touch with the "dualplay" project guys through their old indiegogo page to buy them a pair of attachments, but no response.

About the sharpshooter idea. I have a sharpshooter that I bought for 10€ and It is actually quite awesome and has a nice build quality. The problem using only a sharpshooter to emulate hydra (talking about hl2) is that you lack one more joystick. You can either move/strafe or move/rotate with only one stick. Remember the psmove is an optical solution so you shouldn't use the move orientation to rotate the character, and furthermore CV1 will come quite probably with non-360 positional tracking.

PS: The software is almost done. I already have a preliminary FreePIE plugin working. I'll build a simple hydra emulation script to test it tomorrow, it may need some tweaking so would be great if someone around has a working hydra and the unity plugin. I'll need to know the hydra trigger value range (0 to 1?) and probably figure out what scale the positional values X, Y & Z have (f.i. 1 unit is 1 meter?).

trying to think of a design to marry the two into one control per hand vs. 2....what is the orientation of the move control, does it have to be vertical similar to the Stem control or horizontal facing? or does it matter?

For the rotation it doesn't matter but because of the optical positional tracking and the glowing orb it matters to the point that you need to avoid that most common rotations dont end up ocluding the orb.

what do you think about the "ergonomic" layout I suggest?
That layout would allow you to point straight up with a vr "gun" and still avoid ocluding the orb because the move controller itself is pointing straight up.

I like the way the trigger button is similar to that of a gun in its positioning. You could very easily mock something up. Looks like a general right angle triangle. You could use some sticky tape or velcro combined with some thin metal and then 3d print it. I have friend with a makerbot2 who is willing to print it out.
