Promising Concept - To show or not to show ??? (Link inside)

EDIT : More Informations about our project here : viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6669

Hi guys !

So I am confronted to a very hard decision.

A dev friend and I have been working on a concept that we think could be a huge revolution in the VR and telepresence fields.

Since we are only students we only had few days to work on it during the last two months, but we already have a promising prototype and some contacts with a lab that might help us in bringing it a step further. We also have some people ready to invest a bit of money on the project, probably enough for a nice start.

Now the problem is that our concept is great because it's simple and pretty damn efficient. Anyone with some skills and money could steal it and do it. We like the idea of open sources projects but we would also like to open a business thanks to this new "technology".

We didn't want to talk about it at all before having a more advanced prototype and some work from the lab, but we are also really scared that someone out there might have the same idea and might show it to you before we do.

So what should we do ? Should we keep it for ourselves until it is advanced enough or should we decide to keep you informed at every step of the project even if it means showing it to people with more means than us ?

    You cannot copyright ideas.
The only way here is to build as quick as possible the software system and copyright the code, hoping that nobody has been faster doing the same thing.
Even that won't prevent other people to create similar concepts. Then, that's just competition, and beeing the first is a strong point.

For hardware concepts, applying for a patent is not always a good idea, beacause it reveals what you are working on. Then, everyone can steal your idea and build something similar that works differently.

Very interested in what you have, sounds like hardware right? What could you think of that hasn't been thought of yet, which has something to do with VR? Well, I'm interested in what you will show us in the future!

Give us one or two months as planned, and we'll hopefully have a lot to show ;) !

Hmm.... maybe it is something like this:

If it is, and if I get enought subscribers, maybe we could collaborate?

Actually our objectives are pretty similar but our method for doing it is completely different.

Also, you'll be glad to know that my partner just started working full time on the project. If everything goes well you should expect concrete news from us in the coming weeks/months ;) !

As Einstein said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

So nowadays, I'm stuck eating ramen noodles.. so, like I said.. copyright your ideas.

Instead, we seem trapped in a period of corporate rigidity, with employers using an irrational holdover of industrial-age empiricism to evaluate who is capable of contributing and who isn’t, something which is readily set aside whenever a friend of a friend comes calling. Human Resources has become the junk science of rationalizing why most people we live with shouldn’t be allowed to contribute, and the closer one looks at its hiring practices the more nonsensical it becomes, an example of how easily a structure that was meant to enrich the working conditions of workers can become diverted with the business of proving why only a chosen few should be allowed access to that coveted and increasingly rare status.

The Mac App Store is a great store, I love how all of Macs users are pointed to one location for their updates and software. This helps direct their attention to our games. Back in 2011 it looked like a new gold mine for indie developers since there was so little competition. However, I experienced this has changed which is why I'm sharing our sales figures. This is also the sad story of how a game on the #1 games spot during christmas generated only very little revenue.
mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123 I am looking into that LEEP VR I lack practical 3d knowledge, I have found some good links, but I am not sure if they are the ones you were talking about. Would you mind direct linking me to them?

I will keep the project for myself then. I hope I'll soon have something to show you all ;) !

Develop the project until the logic is LESS clear, and multiple steps are required to get to your result, or functional endpoint.

When some of those steps are not all that obvious, then you can consider that aspect as part of your idea protection.

Patents are about process and application of that process, not specifically the basic ideas, or the reality of the components, one might say. Unique process, unique result.

If, in your development, you find several UNIQUE points that must be passed through in order to get to your end result, therein lies your form of protection.
