UPDATE: The announcement has been made official, as indicated by the new thread over here:

I just received "secret insider" knowledge of a HUGE Sixense announcement coming in 1/2 hour!

New Razer Hydra, or MakeVR? We shall see very soon!

Time to start pounding those F5 web browser page refresh keys?

If I were to guess, I bet its going to be at the $300 pricepoint like the Rift. If it works better and has more bells and whistles similar to the Rift, that pricepoint will be pretty incredible. $300 is the sweet spot where gamers are all in.

Initiating Sixense Monthly Budget....Now. (Piggy bank squeals with joy)

I'm going to say $199 for the dev kit (two hand controllers and one STEM), with the consumer version having multiple SKUs with between 0 to 3 STEM units. If they want to make sure they have plenty of software support at Rift launch, they need to take a page from Oculus's playbook and be willing to let the dev kits go for a reasonable profit margin.

Dunno... $300 feels like a bit too much... it'll cost the same as a PS4 1 year after its release... Somewhere around $200 would be an acceptable price for ME.

PS: Geekmaster, friendly remember that IOU!

Ahh yes, there are dozens of people I never got around to invoicing. Meh... "Accidental" pay-it-forward. My favorite charitible organization is "the future human race". After we deplete all the easily harvested planetary resources and leave them to inherit our massive debt, they will need all the help they can get just to survive.

But in your case, I will make an exception. ;) I will invoice you soon. :D How is that Razer Hydra working for you? Now I only have FOUR of them...

Regarding my "Pay it forward" attitude, that has two benefits for me. I feel less guilty about all the special privileges I have been given by most adults as a child, and by employers during my lifelong career (in exchange for my special talents and skills). I also use that as an excuse to forgive yet another person who has ripped me off (massive identity theft fraud, outright burglary, dishonoring contracts, unpaid invoices, etc.). But I sometimes wonder if forgiving the "bad guys" just encourages them to continue their predatory ways...

Merged the two threads. In the future, geekmaster, you can always edit your first post and change the title, if you like.

I know that. And I did that at MTBS3D (leaving a "delete me" thread behind). But over here, by the time I realized that, there were multiple posts in both threads...

    Thanks for merging them... :D

And people started posting funny YouTube videos in my new "delete me" thread over at MTBS3D, just like they (we) did for tmek's "delete me" thread.

I guess "delete me" threads are eternal, eh?

I'm sure those privileges (or most of them) have been earned, so no need to feel guilty :D

I also support your fav charitable organization.

Bad guys will always be bad guys (I'll leave some room for rule exceptions, tho); they don't care about encouragement and they take consequences for their actions as a possible outcome... my policy is to give w/o expecting in return... although when you commit to something, not following through is, IMHO, a major character flaw.

The Hydra is here in AR and I'm meeting my friend who brought it tomorrow :D :D :D Don't worry, I'll take good care of your baby. Now I'm only missing the Rift (I'm one of the customs hostages) and Oculus Support has told me that switching my shipping address outside of the US at this point could lead to further delays so I'm not gnona risk it and trust that the guys Oculus sent to deal with the problem on site could fix the problem soon.

I saw some messages in another forum trying to figure out what STEM stands for. My speculation on the STEM is that it isn't an acronym at all, but actually a stem, like a stem of a flower.

It might be a positional clamp that is used for a reference for all the other leafs that are being measured. So the STEM will probably be on your torso (could also be waist?) and will allow your hands to be referenced relative to your body. If there are additional sensors, they would be similar to the STEM (but not actually labelled STEM as not to confuse their function) and they could be placed in other places, depending on what makes sense.

Of course, let me go ahead and state the obvious of why you want the position of the leafs in reference to the position of a stem. That way, for example, if your entire body turns, the software can tell that your hands have stayed still, relative to position of your body. Very useful when you're in something like an Omni.

Where might other sensors go? One might be each foot (would be great in an Omni). Without an Omni, perhaps sensors on the thighs would be good enough to communicate forward motion if a person walks in place. (Played a battlemech simulator? It might be good for determining a torso twist, too.) Or if you had an application where arm positioning is critical, then a pair on your elbows, for example.

Of course, this is all speculation, but it is also what I hope to see, based on what I've read so far.

I posted "STEM of a pipe" (for magic smoke).
